Bill had an undergraduate degree from a college in Louisiana. I always expected more from him. He was way too laid back. Idiots with no formal training played a lot more piano than him including Marion. If Bill had not gotten a break to play with Miles he would be forgotten. Lush chords with a lot of major seconds, minor and major thirds are his trademark.
Hi. I'm no expert but I found that this has to be 1978 or 1979, since Marc Johnson joined Bill's trio in 1978 and Bill talks about this new member in this recording.
My CD version of this says it was broadcast on November 13, 1978 on NPR. I don't think Joe LaBarbera had joined the group yet (maybe Philly Joe was still playing with Evans at this time? there are a few videos of Johnson, Philly and Bill playing together in late 1978.)
New name, "Mack Johnson," lol.

Love your mellow sound. All on the same page musically. Love it when it all comes together like this.

God bless NPR for producing shows of this quality.

Ms McPartland is in awe of Bill. She's giddy with nervousness in this interview.
Thanks for posting this.

You want to give credit to Dave Brubeck who was the writer of this song.

Jazz is nothing but for its layers, subtlety, and the ability to absolutely knock you sideways with the playing of one single unexpected note.

@Flextones Brilliance I suppose needs to be recognized from such. Oh well. Enjoy your contemptible opinion.
