Would you say that Dominant strings are best? Because apparently they have a great sound and my E string now sounds 'sandy' and horrible that when I practice it it's kind of depressing :S

It's hard to try to teach yourself a string instrument. It's not like it's just hitting buttons. A teacher can help you out if you're doing something wrong and you don't realize it.

What kind of strings do you use?

Chidori, the strings used in this video were about a decade old. They were a mix of everything from eudoxa to Obligato to Dominants. Now I am using Eva Pirazzi with a Vision E string - hope that helps - but I haven't found perfect strings. The secret to tone is so much more so in your playing than in the strings.
