I saw this film in the theater during my teens, and even then it struck me as a metaphor for corporate America. I saw it again on TCM earlier this evening, and the corporate metaphor thought recurred. It's just that the metaphorical aspect is more evident now than it was 39 years ago. But a new thought crossed my mind this evening: wasn't Soylent Corporation just engaging in the ultimate form of recycling? Depends on point of view; I still incline toward my initial impression in the 70's.
