  • LOL @ the end of the video....tell him next time to loosen, tighten, tighten, loosen, tighten, tighten. If you just keep tightening, tightening, tightening it will just get harder and harder. Technique is key. But gj putting him to work lol I wish I had learned earlier on

  • props on your son putting in work!

  • Nice vid, I'll mod a g-clamp to do the same job when I do mine

  • @Tack2252 Thanks. I'll have to admit I'm not sure what a "g-clamp" is. Someone else also reffered to it. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

  • @thankath It's the same as you have in the video, I know them as G clamps and there normally used for clamping things down on work benches etc. I think they are called C clamps aswel.

  • I've heard of others removing the differential cover (and draining fluid obviously) instead of removing the entire differential. Did you consider doing that or do you think that's conceivable?

  • @erick222 Not sure if it's possible but doubt it would be less work than just removing the entire diff. Would also be less room to work on the bushing and would have to worry about getting dirt in the diff, resealing the cover and filling.

  • Do you recon you could get away with using a G Clamp? Cheers

  • Get yourself a ratchet.

  • @sweetlikeADAM I have litterally chests full of rachets and tools. The wrench used was the best for the job. Not everything fits where one would like.

  • @thankath get a ratchet closed end rench boi!!!

  • @LASTTOPGUN yah that would work. But why when my boy will turn the wrench for me :-)

  • such a wonderful tool. I also use it.

  • Thanks. !!!!

  • Pressed them out toward the passenger side as there was more room to set up the C-clamp that way (since the bushing holder is offset to the driverside). Seems like I used an old bearing and a piece of scrap aluminum plate. Can't remember exactly. Was just what I had around that filled the gap and was the right size. Also Measure how much of the bushing sticks out (where it touches the diff) and press it into that depth again.

  • What other spacers did you need ? I bought the same tool but don't think it would work with the spacers it has ????? And do the bushings have to be pushed out toward the pass. Side or drivers side ? Thanks

  • So, you just dropped the diff. and left everything else in place?

  • @DrMotorDude Sway bar has to come off, a brace under the front of the diff and the rear exhaust hangars to let the exhaust droop. (have to disconnect the driveshaft and axleshafts from where they meet the diff but they can stay connected to the car at the other end). There are some good DIY on bimmerforums and E46fanatics.

  • @thankath Thanks, I'll check it out.

  • Iis that a ball joint tool? I need to do these bushings on my moms bmw, but I dont want to buy the $400 bmw tool to do it. Does this work to take the bushings out and put them in? Any help would be great!

    Thanks

  • @blakeerdmann Yep. Ball joint tool from the auto parts store. Had to use a few more spacers to get what I needed.
