  • oh my god! this is awesome. excellent tone

  • i have a question for you. i want to play my sax and make cd's for a living in the future. i want to use soprano as my main horn, but i am very "Into" tenor right now.

should i buy a learners soprano now and start learning or buy a pro tenor? i already learned tenor.

  • @crazydaisytoo i have a question for you. I own a really rubbish alto, and much prefer playing tenor. Would you recommend saving for ages to buy a good tenor or trading my alto in and getting an ok-ish tenor for it?

  • @JosephMSmithMusic Go for a cheap tenor! The instrument makes a tiny difference compared to you, just make sure there are no leaks and you should be fine. I sound 99% the same on my Yamaha YTS23 back-up horn.

  • @crazydaisydoo appreciate the advice, thanks. By the way, this is some awesome playing, a beautiful rendition of a very good song.

  • @crazydaisydoo i thats the case, then why do people bother with stupidly expensive saxophones and spend their money on some top quality training to make them play the instrument better?

  • @JosephMSmithMusic You can find very good deals on used old Buescher Aristocrat Series II and III on Ebay and they are phenomenal saxophones for about $600-$700. You have to buy $3500 sax to get close - not match their beautiful tone. When I got my first one I was smiling the whole day.

  • What kind of mouthpiece are you using? I use a Vandoran T55 on my Tenor and Vandoran Java 21/2 Reeds.

  • it never sounded like this in the elevator! :)

  • nice job

    greatful

    regards from france

  • I have a question I play alto but I love tenor too. Is it hard to change from one to the other or even play both?

  • Nice! I play the tenor sax as well, I have a custom z. What horn are you using in the video?

  • beautifulllll :)

  • so smooth!

  • thats amazing

  • My son, Lawrence diagnosed with autism, loves your music and aspire to play like you. Born with severe disability in communication and fear of music, Lawrence was discovered to have savant-like musical talent last year when he was 19 years old. He fought through his sound sensitivity and plays by ear, but can't find background music for his saxophone solos. If possible, can you share with us how to get the karaoke music for the saxophone? He can further learn to improvise and improve. Thanks.

  • @auntieanna1

I hope I can help with that...

He is playing over backing tracks, pre-recorded drums, piano and bass. The set, part of the "Jamey Aebersold" series, includes written sheet music as well as the chord changes.

If your son is interested, email jameyATjazzbooksDOTcom. Obviously, switch the "AT" for @, and "DOT" for "." Thats just a way to prevent spamming. If you email jamey he can probably suggest some good sets of his, as well as his jazz handbook.

    Bless,

    John

  • @alirzb Thanks so much John.

  • @auntieanna1

My pleasure :) PM me and let me know how it goes, I can suggest a couple if you would like

  • respect..i envy you for the fact that you can play the saxophone...i can only play the guitar (amateur), but i wish i could play jazz....i ll take jazz lessons someday cause from what i can assume it is impossible to play this music without having lessons...then i might be wrong

jazz is life :) i am obsessed

    well done

  • Btw my comment was a reply to Bassplyr2006, whatever happened to the comment replies being indented?

  • Thanks for the support BA, i had not noticed his idiotic comment, so it gave me great pleasure to delete it!

  • This is a good version Matt. Rest assured.

Would sound good with a flute too ... when I get time.

  • great sound, i play tenor as well, can't beat the sound of a great tenor =]

  • hah I LOVE your shuffling dance!!

  • You`re doing great, Matt! Lovely, relaxed, soulful playing. When`s your cd out? :)

  • I wish I was you, you look like a guy living a good life. Love the music dude, keep it up.

  • Where do U live and or play?

  • Stylish... compelling... superb.

I have listened to many of videos; they're wonderful. Thanks for posting them.

  • Super, Whenever i listen you...I'm flying

  • Very well done !

  • Great Sound! very good! Nice done man!

  • Great job. i love how you sound so much like getz.

  • vary good

  • amazing like always...my future sax professor has a cd out of just jobim tunes. its called "jobim now" check it out if you feel inclined too.

  • Your low register is nice and breathy ala Stan Getz. He played on a 1.5 reed...man it was like paper. You have a nice tone in the upper register.

  • Nice tune. Getz played hard reeds , about a #4 or so, and not 1.5

  • Some say 4 or even 5 reeds, but you are right most definitely not 1.5! I use 3's on a 7* otto link. He used a slightly closer tip, but again, opinion varies, some says he had his 5* opened up to about 8 or 8* All this is immaterial in a way, as (we all know) most of it came from him, not his set-up. He also played a berg larsen and even a meyer mouthpiece (unusual for tenor). He still sounded like Getz

  • smoooooooth

  • Dear Matthew,

another great Sten Getz tune. Your sound on tenor is so smooth and sexy ( sorry;-) ) just the way i like it. Absolutly fantastic.

I try to play my tenor ,that it sounded as goood as yours! ( Million years later.....perhaps it`s works...:-) )

At the moment i`ll try to play " Blues in the night" like your version.

    You`re my inspiring example.

Best regards from good old Germany

    Miss Adderstone ;-)

( sorry of my horrible english!! )

  • ufff a great song for lovers,,,jobim is one of the best,,, at all times,,

  • im a beginer on the tener sax at the age of 12 any way i started on the alto and moved to tener and you have inspired me to play my hardest

  • Hi Matthew,

Nice improvement! I like this version better.

    Don.

  • quite different in terms of speed and style and everything from ur last recording...To be honest i love both of them :P great job XD

  • Nice player, I like it very much, thx for the sharing.

  • Sei fantastico

  • I really enjoy what you musically do.

Camera is well positionned, j'aime bien voir la positions des doigts en action.

    Merci beaucoup.

    Lakshman

  • Really nice. I like the idea of playing the theme in lower octave.

  • Another nice one, Matt! Your tone, reminds me a lot of Hayden Chisholm. He also really understands texture. Take a listen either here on Youtube or at Plushmusic. Keep up the great work.

  • Thanks Matthew for another great Getz tune. The low register on tenor does sound so smooth and sexy :-) Wish my Tone Edge 6* sounded as good as yours he, he. I look forward to the next offering.

  • Nice sound Craydaisydo!

I had a Eraly babbit HR,,traded away for a Florida Link 8,,,also a fantastic mpc!

Though,,,i really prefer metal mpcs,,teh those HR..Try those FL lig,,,very nice on that HR Link you are using!

    All the best

    MArio

  • AWESOME!!

  • This soooo sweet and classy!

Please tell me, how long have you played the saxophone?

  • Thanks, 3 years, but I have played jazz guitar for 25 years, so that kind of helps :-)

  • this is awesome, i'm all stressed out after the cover of newsweek said we're in socialism now

  • I am glad you liked it, although Bill Clinton fooled around the sax too :-)

  • Matthew, why did you switch to a rubber mouthpeice and what kind are you using?

  • HI, I used a Metal NY Link in 7* for a while, but it was too loud and piercing when playing with the quartet, so I switched back to a rubber link, a 7. Both are nice though. I still use both depending on what I am doing.

  • thank you s uch for doing this song, this is my favorite song, and you did it so well

  • Cheers

  • Perfect! Extra "juicy" :)

  • I was aiming for more juice!!

  • Just wonderful!

  • Thanks!

  • You're too good ... incredible....

  • I would'nt say that, but thank you....

  • great :) kisses'n hugs from Romania

    5*

  • Thanks Alex (you are a girl.......???)

  • u r wlcm, (no i'm not :P )

  • Bravo!

  • Thanks!

  • Hi Matthew! I cannot add anything to that which the others have already said. This tune has given some sunshine to a grey and snowy day here in Germany. Thank you again!

  • Hi Ulli, I like the weather, lots of snow over here, and it makes me feel very gemütlich (my favourite German word, next to your word for squirrel, which I can only pronounce after a drink or too) Thanks for you kind words, yet again, much appreciated.

  • Good ! Always...... Thank you- Your French friend....

  • Merci, for all you lovely comments!

  • i love your awesome control in the bottom of the horn man. thanks for all your posts

  • Thanks Solis, I have to blow much harder on this Semer, which has helped my bottom end a bit, but t is not there yet... still work to do

  • what selmer are you playing on?

  • A reference 36.....

  • Matt, you are one of the finest saxophonists on YouTube. Absolutely.

Best to you, with much respect and admiration.

  • Thanks bigsaxman, not sure I quite agree about the finest :-), but I am really pleased you like it.

  • Mathew, you´re really good.

Congratulations. But, don´t abandon the alto sax, please.

  • I still play it, but it is difficult because of the music and playing out with it becomes hard work (three horns to carry is too much!!). Thanks for the kind words..

  • i think you do ok on bridge it is triky tho crazy

  • yeah crazy as usual the bissss

  • Cheers Hitman, and thanks for all your support, much appreciated. I have been listening to getz on the bridge since I recorded this, and I like what he does, the problem is I can't copy it cos that would be a bit sad..... also in a totally different key....

  • You could put this on CD. My friend and I do busking every week on the streets of Birmingham, UK and the sound you produce is what we try to emulate for our CD coming soon. Thanks for 18 months of music, the time we discovered you on youtube and the time we started playing saxophone.

  • Cheers Supercat, I bet you two are bostin...:-) I must check you out, I am only about 40 miles away In Leicester. Now villa have got O'neill and Heskey I might pop over, like watching us in the 90's again.....

  • We would be honoured to shake your hand on the streets of brum. Let us know when you are planning to visit so we can give you the location we'll be at. We move about plus we venture to other towns/cities.
