I went to this high school and the first book I read was by McCourt. The book was amazing. It was the first time I've ever cried so hard reading a book: very, very well written. I'm saddened that I never met him in person, especially since he pretty much retired before I was even born.
Yes, read his books but especially 'Teacher Man'...The first book that won him such praise, in my opionion, is only second to Teacher Man. I only wish (as so many do) that I'd had him as a teacher....rest, dear soul...you deserve respite.
