ok so i have a 3g running on ios4 and this didnt work because you can turn data off in the settings menu. Anyway i previously did this with a 2g and it worked fine. But when i put my sim card into my 3g, it wont connect to the att network. I looked under setting>phone>my number and it says unknown and it will no let me change it. When i put my sim into my 2g everything works fine. i dont have a data plan so i cannot call att for assistance or they will charge me for data. any suggestions?

@laxbro116 Go to AT&T and buy a GoPhone and like $10 or $15 or $20 card. Using the GoPhone activate the SIM card and add minutes. Then put it in the iPhone and activate. This is an easy way to activate and works 100% if not than Hacktivate the iphone.

@ZSolo318 Google Voice uses data; so it would only work on WiFi or 3G. But since your disabling 3G you would only be able to call and text on WiFi which is pointless. So yes this will work but in your case keep your regular calling and texting plan, because you can NOT rely on Google Voice
