  • I kind of miss these days... Shinedown is still great, but its performances like this that show how hard working this band really is.

  • fuck i miss Jason

  • One of the Best Voices in Rock and Roll !!

Id love to see Brent and Chris Cornell do a song together, now that be awesome...

  • why doesnt this have a million views?

  • i miss this shinedown

  • @paula10 .. he is beyond hot

  • god damn brent is so fucking hotttt!!!!

  • I was Barry's Drum Tech during this tour ( I'm there hiding behind the amps with the camera guy.)

We flew into NYC immediatley after doing Earthday Birthday in Orlando. After 18 months & hundreds of shows, Brent finally just lost his voice at sound check.

Being this was the bands network debut, Brent didn't want to let anyone down.

I hooked him up with a doctor and cortisone shot. I know the real pain he was in. Unless you have a comparable performance experience, hold your judgments.

    Crash

  • @144Crash That actually sounds like a perfectly reasonable explanation for moments like 2:14. There's no reason a healthy singer would have made that sound on purpose. I'm guessing it was supposed to be a scream, but didn't quite have the power behind it that it was meant to thanks to his hurt voice?

  • o m g

  • brent smith is the best pure vocalist in rock today

  • @rlf09 Sorry dude.. Myles Kennedy is :)

  • @ozzswfc 100% agree

  • I think his voice is incredible and very creditable towards the album. He is a great artist and his live performance almost reaches the albums quality. Brent's passion for music in this song is stellar. A lot better than the Black Eyed Pea's live performances. HA

  • Thank you for the video...we cover this song and it has a powerful message to give the audience. Every vocalist is different and it is performed based on his or her ability. Vocalists are human too and some performances are better than others.

  • this video is awesome screw all of you who think other i would like to see anyone do better since he is not singing up too his ability you all must excellent singers huh

  • @eschulz94 Thankyou, Shinedown's live performances are all unique. If you listen and notice, some lyrcis are sang differently a little bit or have his own live twist on it, which shows they're not just boring and do whats on CD :)

  • Of course it not equal the recording. It´s missing the reverb, just it. He has a great voice

  • chills.. s.s s.s

  • I hate that there is a dislike button for any video. If you dont like it. DONT WATCH IT DUMBASSES!

  • @TheBruinsfan22 i must retort.. please dont reply how your not allowed to watch it if you dont like it.. how will you know unless you experiece it.. sill7y goose. i mean. nevermind

  • awesome!

  • the 3 best rock vocalist i have ever heard:

Chris Cornell, Myles Kennedy, and Brent Smith. they are awesome.

  • @mlbwwetropicthunder my top 3 are Brent Smith, (Shinedown) Adam Gontier, (Three Days Grace) and Shawn Morgan (Seether)

  • @SoulessRocker1 those are a good three. i like Seether and T.D.G. give Chirs Cornell (Audioslave & Soundgarden) and Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) a shot

  • @mlbwwetropicthunder IMO Myles has a better voice than Chris. Brent does have a very epic voice though. My top 3 are probably Corey Taylor, Myles Kennedy, and Brent Smith.

  • @a7xMattShadows67 your right. i love myles voice. everything he sings comes out gold

  • @mlbwwetropicthunder Dude I know right? There aren't words to describe him. He's got the most beautiful voice.....

  • @a7xMattShadows67 i can't listen to music in a day without listening to something with his voice on it.

  • @mlbwwetropicthunder I agree. I really like those 2 songs he did with Slash.... And my favorite Alter Bridge song is probably either Watch Over You or Wonderful Life.

  • @a7xMattShadows67 yeah he was great with slash. and my favorite alter bridge song would be...um...wel honestly.. all of them :)

  • @mlbwwetropicthunder Lol rock on dude!!!! Alter Bridge is a Godsend.

  • @a7xMattShadows67 sure is

  • I love his live voice. I hate when it sounds like a CD, makes me happy rock n roll doesn't lipsynch

  • Fantastic instrumental. For a live performance, pretty damn good vocals.

  • I love it-- his voice sounds amazing live <3

  • Dude who cares if they don't sound the same live as they do in the studio? That's what makes it so worth going to a live show. The music they play takes true talent to make and I know what it's like being a singer in a band. It hurts after a while on stage and wears you out. You might as well stay home and listen to albums if they're gonna sound the same.

  • Layne staley of AiC had the best voice ever in rock n roll.....too bad he's long gone.

    R.I.P Layne

  • I'm actully glad that he doesn't do it exactly like the record, and it still sounds kick ass, cuz then stupid ppl can't complain that he's lip snycing and so what if he duz?? He's been doing this for many many years, he's voice has to hurt sometimes.

  • God I love Shinedown. Brent Smith has to be the best vocalist in music today. Some jackoff was tryin to say creed was better than Shinedown and Scott Stapp was a better singer. I said fuck that Brent is the man and Shinedown kicks the shit out of creed.

  • and i'm staring down the barrel of a twelve inch cock!

  • Wtf?? when I ended the video I said: "Wow, the guy really has a incredible voice"...and then I see this comments, I dont get it...

  • this sounds good and all.....but damnit i wanna hear him hit those high notes at least once!!!!!!

  • he sounds amazing. period.

  • This song saved my life....literally, thank you Shinedown!! i learned this song on guitar and made it acoustic sooo yea awesome song!

  • I thought this was a good performance. Remember, they were probably hitting the 3 year mark of touring. That does a lot to the vocal cords. Brent has always been a consistently good singer and its always fun watching this band play.

  • and the recording is edited to sound different. live is actually better in my opinion because its his actual voice

  • There is a video of him singing in cinncinati where he sounds better than the recording. His voice sounds really wornout in this video

  • @mlkjr89 that miight be right cuz it might not be their first song there

  • I really like this band and I agree that it's not possible to consistently sound like the recording especially when you are on tour, but every single time I've seen them live, he sounds pretty bad. There's saving your voice, which is what Miles Kennedy does, and then there's not trying (that hard). I sing this song a lot and the only part he should need to save would be on the ending. Still like 'em though. Just saying.

  • @AndromedaGalaxy17 aint like the recording but he sure does try eh?

  • Not excatly like the recording but what song is.Loved it anyway!!!!!! Shinedown is kiss ass Rock on guys!!!!!!!!! Awesome performance!!!!

  • I remember watching this episode of Conan O'Brien. The next minute I was on Kazaa downloading the album. 6 yrs ago...wow

  • This band kicks ass!!! Congradulations on the bad ass music!!!

  • because things sound perfect in a recording studio all together...theres no comparison to sound quality when it comes a studio, a live performance is has an improvisational element to it..so you cant expect things to be exactly the same note for note, also the whole idea of being an artist is being creative and showing your diversity..they take pride in it

  • Excelente!!!!!!!

  • myles kennedy and brent smith are two very great singers and they both sing good live

  • whoa..i love this dudes vocal control.. great band

  • Awesome video.......... Brent is Hot

  • This is such a good band but he can never hit those damn high notes live

  • watch the acoustic versions..he almost always does.

  • Holy Crap! He looks just like my friend used to. oh and they sounded amazing live, i saw them in like september of 2009

  • i saw them in Glasgow last November, excellent band. My favourite right now by a country mile. They tour for 12 weeks, have a week off and then back on the road so his voice is going to be fucked more often than not. Try dinging those songs for 2 hours or so every other night and your voice would be broken

  • I have seen them live twice and i can say he absolutely hits the high notes. This isn't a great recording, but make no mistake he is amazing.

  • he never could hit the high notes live!...and in the studio i say they were punched in on cue. on one of his Good days! it is sad...cause on the records he sounds phenomenal! and we expect that when we go to see them live...anyway! i still love their music!

  • you do realize that pretty much all songs have some sort of computer editing done to them right? This is pretty damn good for a live performance.

  • @ebongo91 so true

  • You are absolutely right!! If he didnt do that throaty stuff, he might hit em. But If you want some one that truly can hit the high note 9.5 out of 10 times....Go check out Myles Kennedy.

But Shinedown is TONS cooler since Zach Myers joined the band!!!

  • dude you think i don't know that???

myles kennedy is my all time favorite singer!:)

  • this is great! i can hear the bass line, it's important, lol, b/c i'm learning this song.... haha

  • how come he can't sing this high now?he sucks on songs like second chance where he goes high on the recording.

  • He screamed out the high notes too much, rather than supporting... when you do that, you actually wreck your vocal chords. Sad, isn't it?

  • i can hear it even here, he screams more than he sings at some points

  • he doesn't do it anymore because it wreaks havock on your vocals, if he always did that, he'd sound terrible now, i think he's still fantastic.

  • I went and say them at the New York state fair

  • haha he follows the cliche frontman pattern: use the stand for the first verse and chorus, then take the mic off for the rest.

but its ok, i do the same thing, and he's 100x the vocalist i am =D such a good voice

  • they are crazy good, he does better live now, i saw them live a couple weeks ago, they were in medford it was amazing

  • Ah! Jasin and Brad!!!!

  • This song totally verbalizes how I picture my PTSD since I've returned from my tours in Iraq. Thanks to shinedown for this song..

  • my brother is in the military as well. a major in the army. altho he doesn't fight on the front lines (he's the head of ground patrol) i know he's had his times

  • They are amazing live unlike some bands where are good an all but they just suck live, but man he is great like!

  • Brent Smith has an AMAZING rock voice. This is just a poor performance. Look up some of his renditions of Simple Man and such... completely epic.

  • brent needs a break from touring just now i want to hear his voice as good as this again

  • Not trying to chastise anyone. The dude is a great vocalist. He has a hell of a voice. Im just saying i think he records the album a little beyond his ability when it comes to pulling it off show after show.

  • well imo, i like live performances sounding different from the recordings, it adds diversity, and actually shows the band are playing live and not faking it, and after all hes only human, not a robot, so he can express the same lyrics in different ways live, personally i prefer the live versions.

  • @axisify or maybe he doesn't want to fuck his voice up like James Hetfield did because he wants to have a long lasting career and successful record sells.

  • @axisify well you want to do better than normal on the actual album so people will buy it to hear that strong performance otherwise not heard live

  • @axisify negative ive seen them live and their sound and vocals improve

  • @axisify of course he can pull it off show after show- but the psychology of making someone want something teaches how to hold a little back to make them actually want it more. he pretty much sings it differently every time, and everyone continues to come back, lusting after those elusive high notes like a fat kid lusts after pizza. if he gave everyone the high notes all the time, they would shoot their load and be on to the next one for a while

  • @axisify I understand what you mean, it's like most bands. For example Daughtry does that also.

  • @axisify wow kid shut the fuck up you have no idea what your talking about, how the fuck do you have one of the highest rated comments, you try learning how to sing dont even talk your not an expert so dont judge

  • @axisify ok look so what his albums sound like he is going beyond his ability well he isn't on his albums he is maxing his ability out for maximum customer satisfaction with his singing if he sang like that live at every show then guess what would happen to his voice??? he would destroy his voice singing like that at every show you go watch more videos of him singing live he does sing jus like he does on his albums at some shows i dont blame him for not wanting to destroy his vocal capability

  • @axisify by singing at maximum capability at every single live show plus he was on the conan O'Brien show like he is gonna waste a very powerful performance on a shitty show like that one lol i know i wouldn't i'd save my powerful performances for my concerts where everybody there loves me instead of wasting a powerful performance on a show where not everybody likes you where some people have just learned about you that night... now who agrees with me on that topic???

  • @axisify just one more thing buddy look up shinedown 45 acoustic and play the video that says shinedown 45 acoustic in my house or any one of em and jus listen to the difference between this performance and the one he is performing acoustic for his real fans that won a radio contest the prize was him coming to their home and playing 5 of his songs acoustic and he rocked every damn song some are even better than the album version i think and what band dosent sound a lil different on albums....

  • @axisify true. still a great voice..and he knows how to make some pretty music

  • @axisify Definitely not..but, have you read all comments omg ? He was after 2 shows in 2 days..his cvoice was cracked and still he sang like this ?, omg he had to be in a such pain and can sing like this ? I am not sure if even God could do that like him..

  • I just wish he would hit the high notes. I have looked forever and even bought the dvd. I have yet to here it. Good day or not, it shouldnt be on the album if you can't pull it off live. Im not saying you have to be perfect every time, but dont dodge every single hard part in your song.

  • For what he does pull off, you should be chastising every band in the world.

  • ya ive seen it but most of the time recently he cant hit them because of the constant touring...he still sings very well but not exactly like the album since his voice during touring is a bit trained...if u see older acoustic videos he definitely hits them,

  • DUDE! Exactly! My thoughts exactly! He needs to right where he can sing! I guarantee

people would still buy the albums. And they would be so much better live. But he really does dodge ever high note in the song. I hit every high note when Im singing,.. But I swear if I couldnt sing them live, I wouldnt have even put the high notes in my songs!

  • look are deceiving :) lol

  • damn he doesnt look like a guy that would have that kind of voice

  • me gusta la voz de ese brother xD

  • lol @ cheap compressors....

  • wow that whole band has grown.....

  • he does sound better live than recorded. To me when songs r recoreded they sound more "fake", thats my opinion

  • Thanks, bout time someone said that. I think the crappier production on the two older albums sound better than sound of madness for that reason. Stupid expensive producers.

  • Well for one, it's too quiet.. and for some lousy bands(unlike this and the better ones), you can hear breathing..

  • wer IS this, cz sum41 did the hell song here AGES ago... i defo recognise this place..

  • Late night with conan o brien

  • hell yeah! live vocal is much better than the recording. not so smooth but its much better

  • why does everyone bitch if the vocal line isnt exactly like the recording? I find it more interesting how he does it live.

  • ive seen him live and im seeing them again this year and jason todd gave me his pick !!!!

  • @Crying11Wolf i agree 100% I think it just shows his capabilities and the fact that he is obviously having fun up there. :)

  • 144crash

was nice of you to help him (:

he's got an amazing voice! im sure you fucker's with the negative comments couldnt sing like him if you tried he's awesome :)

    x

  • I'll give you all some insite on this, since I was there hiding behind the amps with the camara guy.

We flew into NYC in the early am after doing 2 shows in Orlando, Earthday Birthday & an accoustic show.

Brent wasn't feeling well and after 2 years & 100's of shows, his voice gave out at soundcheck. This was the bands network debut and Brent didnt want to let anyone down, so I hooked him up with a doctor for a cortisone shot. This performance is amazing considering the pain he was in

  • Comment removed

  • musicseeker:

Brent sometimes gives it a little much, and the way it sounds, he did a show last night and shot his voice. This happened back when i seen them in Detroit when they were touring with Theory. He tries to out sing the crowd.

  • flat.... flat..... flat..... flat o.0

  • Yep...Yep....Yeppp....yeppp. o.0

    haha your right

  • Let me say first of all that I have mad respect for brent smith and the boys from sd. I think he is one of the best singers in the game today. But I can't help but notice that he keeps dodging the high notes on this one. There are places on the record where he goes for high b's, but he changes it in this performance...

He is still sicknasty awesome, but I'm just saying... What's up with that?

  • sometimes people can't hit them everyday

  • It's just like when you wake up in the morning and your voice is alot lower than when you went to bed the night before

  • Ben, do you realize how much this excuse is given? It's funny that we never see his "good" days.

  • i know, it's like politics.

  • He never hits em... Its sad. But Ohwell theres allways Myles Kennedy. haha :)

  • @coleby6661 Mr. Kennedy is the best out there today. Nobody comes close. I love this guy's voice, but you can't touch Myles' 4 octave range

  • Are you saying Brent cant touch his for octave range or I cant? Myles is the best in the buisness. NO doubt.

  • @coleby6661 I'm saying Brent can't touch his 4 octave range. i have no idea if you can haha. You're exactly right. Nobody comes close to Myles. He's phenomenal. Brent is definitely one of the better ones out there, but there's everyone else, then there's Myles.

  • haha okay! lol. I mean I only have like 3 and a half octaves. You can check out my videos if you want. Itl show ya what i do. lol

  • @coleby6661 Sry and dont think..:) Shouting isnt counted i hope ? But your voice, i think it isnt the one you want to listen..And you cant compare Myles and Brent..Brent is better live, and his voice is so powerful, and Myles can sing really high notes, but doesnt have the fantastic voice of Brent..

  • @llllllllllama It´s wrong what you say about Brent being better live, but Brent´s voice has such RAW power to it, but what you are very right about, is that one simply cannot compare Brent and Myles, because they are two, so very different vocalists. Myles Kennedy on one hand, is an amazing vocalist with insane vocal range, and has perfection in his voice, perfect pitch...Brent Smith has a voice with such power and Emotion, and THAT´s what carries his voice to an insane lv as-well.

  • @simeon58 Myles is one of my fav singer apart from Brent, but the point is, Brent tours constantly more than AB... It wears his voice down, even Myles sometimes avoids high notes, such as in metallingus, and gives the mic to the crowd when he cant sing these parts... I am a die hard fan of Myles, but these two are incomparable, they are both different styles, Myles has this thin, range vocals, while brent has that thick soulful sound...

  • brent smith one of the best singer to sing live

  • Amazing! Man...3:17 - 3:30 makes me sad...how I miss them together.

  • brent smith drinks magic because his voice is just so damn good. shinedown ROCKS!

  • omg!!! i had no idea they were on conan!! AWESOME! love shinedown

  • thanks you for putting this on!!!!!!!!!!!ive been looking for this forever
