Ok, say you buy a paint by numbers portrait of Mona Lisa. So you stay in the lines and use the right colors on the outline. It looks identical to the real Mona Lisa portrait. BUT you know you couldn't paint it without the outline. Who is the better artist? You and the thousands of other people that bought that paint by numbers portrait, or the original artist? I'm just a purist when it comes to d.i.t.c, thats it
...I have my own ethics that I take seriously. There is a song called "Fuck What You Heard" by Diamond and the Psychotic Neurotics where he says "people always say, hey I like the way you make beats, he doesn't use breakbeats". Thats the school I'm from. To me, its just fun and satisfying to find sounds on my own, and be like "yeah thats my beat right there" you know?
dont get it twisted i own a portable sampler ,i create beats from sources that very few would ever think of, you can create a snare, kick, hi hat, from all kinds of things out in the street, i get your point but in my opinion its not where you got the sound from but its how you use it, you can freak it or you can ruin it just by how you put it all together.
@SouthOx: Yeah I think you're a little confused here (or were confused, your comment is from 2 years ago lol), but I think what Diamond meant by that is that he don't use the kinds of "Breakbeat" compilations that were MASSIVE in the late 80's/early 90's (Simon Harris, Red Beans Breaks, Drum Crazy, Tuff City Breaks etc.) Diamond D couldn't have been implying that he doesn't Loop Drum Breaks cuz if you listen to the album, he's clearly sampling Drum Breaks. I think he just uses "originals"
@JohntheLiberator Oh wait, i read the rest of the comments. Ignore that comment. P.S. A drum is a drum tho. I used to be against Break compilations too, but I got over it.
i agree, you cant compare sampling from breaks or an unknown lp to painting by number. people think just cuz they find something first that it makes them better. sure everyone wants to find that dope sample from the group that knowbody has ever heard of but its more important how you use it.
people try and take their drums samples from all over and throw them together only to end up with some real unnatural sounding shit. I think this dude is confused, were passed the days of sampling a whole break and looping it but who cares if you wanna chop up the drums from some break. shit ill chop up the break from funky drummer if i feel like it, better yet ill sample it from one of the 1000 tracks that have used it. You can always take some over used snares and layer, eq, to your liking
thank you, that dude is confused ... i thought i was stuck in the 90's that guy is lost there... i like what you said about layering an over used sound to your liking... thats what it is, that's the best way to create a new sound in my opinion!!!
could you tell me if with the Slice function we can chop a sample to the pads in order to resample the slices? and could we assign the ROLL function to the ribbon to make some rolled snare drums variations (1/4 to 1/( for ex.)by "switching" our finger to the ribonn?
you are good at using and sequencing with the su, i think any gear is good if u master it. i bought it and used it once for a small gig and now its merely used for as fx unit. sequencing and sampling is the bomb with the k2000 for me. if only i had the scsi option4the su it would be nice.what do u think of the k2000?
You are so right....the su700 is sooooo under-rated!!! I got mines in 99, since then the mpc and the asr-x pro have been collecting dust. If the MpC is the Lexus, then the Su700 is the Toyota flagship. Dope piece of equipment.
I love my su700, and that's pretty much exactly how I do it. That looked like it was gonna get pretty sick at the end, you shoulda rockewd the final product a little longer, nice

Excellent! I just bought an used SU700. It's not very intuitive to use, so I appreciate watching what you can do. Many thanks.

I liked the X-Delay alot on the 700. I hated that it only had the floppy and SCSI. Be sure and get clearance on all those samples used. :)
