@GreatfulVince i sort of agree with you on your find good music on your own, accept a few thing. finding it on the RADIO,or Having sombody (dad mom grandma grandpop aunt uncle, etc) recomend it to you is fine, but how i found out about this song originaly was in 2001 watching the IronGiant. i was 5 i fell in love with the song, then when it was finaly possable i went surfing through my grams doo wop cd found it and sunk it to my ipod, i also found other good songs, sister sookie whisperiin bells.
when i was a young teen I didn't know what he was saying when he went "Bullll Dog Drummond" my granddad clued me in as I was wearing the 45 record out in the living room and he started singing it and popping fingers and ditty boppin haha.jive ass old guy was cool.
sadly only one of the Coasters is alive and now retired. if you get the chance to read his book Yacky Yack I Fought Back do it. very interesting reading.
@GratefulVince I disagree. So long as you find good music, it doesn't matter how. Assuming that when you find it, you recognize it as good music, and are THEN encouraged to find more on your own!
@GNRSlashLover the song was written by jerry lieber and mike stoller. They had a bunch of hits during the whole "manufactured" rock n roll period of the late 50s when large recording label started to focus on rock. They employed writers who worked in cubicles to create songs and gave them to groups like the coasters to sing.
@pipexelmejor Coasters. However the Beatles did cover this song on the Decca audition. Paul did lead vocals. It had been widely bootlegged for years. The Beatles version appears on Anthology I.
Nice to see what they looked like, but I wish they had lip sync'd to the record-the background music was terrible! I wonder if r'n'r hater Steve Allen struck a deal?
@haggoe Fuck, you had me going there for a second. It's always a sad day when a music video I love gets a top rated comment like that... I don't know much about the show other than it's about a bunch of fruitcakes dancing and singing like Momma Mia, so that comment (as well as it's approval) instantly corrupts my enjoyment of the song.
@mbarnhead16 hahahahahahahaha yeah just wanted to let you know that was exaclty what I was thinking to......"These two girls named Chris and Val....."
I love this song, for some reason I want some horror movie to use this in a creepy way, like someone is stuck in a mall and a killer is after them and this song is playing as they try to hide. But anyways this song is amazing. Great music in an era when it was all about the voice of artists.
Notice the original LA Coasters with Leon Hughes & Bobby Nunn who both refused to go to NYC with the group & were replaced by Cornell Gunter & Dub Jones.
The first time I heard this song i was at the beach in 1957 and these kids were doing a new dance that looked awful strange at the time>. Later, I found out that they were doing the "Birdland" which became very popular in Washingto, D.C. area .
hi, thanks for the video. i notice a verse is missing, maybe due to time restraints on air, or it it included Boston Blackie in the lyrics? Hope not for that, thanks again, Rich
