It would have been interesting to see what Heinz would have done if, in retaliation, more than 200 people had complained about the advert being PULLED. Wonder if they would have "listened to the concerns of their customers" and reversed their decision...?

First thing that pops in my head: If a man and a women kiss nobody gives a fuck, suddenly two men kiss on TV and it causes a mass debate. Another point that I'll make too, so many people complained, but so many more didn't which proves that the majority weren't too concerned about it. They don't ban Go Compare commercials because it annoys a million people, but they ban a comercial in which two men kiss on the grounds that a few homophobes don't like it.

That was actually quite a homophobic advert- The punchline was that they were gay. It was playing off the stereotype that all gays are preening scream queens.

200 viewers complained out of how many thousands who saw this ad? Why is it that a small minority of noisy wowsers have so much influence? The kiss wasn't even erotic. It was just a peck on the lips, which is considered very normal in many cultures.

For this reason advertisers make adverts and try to appeal to the masses so that more people will feel the need to buy their product and they'll make more money. I couldn't understand why such an ad was even necessary. I wouldn't even want the equivalent 'straight' ad either, as the closest thing to that is those godawful BT ads with Kris Marshall and I've seen them a million times.
