the girl who rang how retarded is she to let her 4 year old watch a soap and being gay isnt exactly pushed on to you if you dont like what your watching turn the channel
It would have been interesting to see what Heinz would have done if, in retaliation, more than 200 people had complained about the advert being PULLED. Wonder if they would have "listened to the concerns of their customers" and reversed their decision...?
Will definitely have to try this approach next time!
If Matthew was single and a gay man tried to kiss him I'm sure Matthew would push him away. Does that mean Matthew would also be homophobic, by his own reasoning?
who are these people who complain?! I honestly believe it's what they do with their lives tbh. Every day watch the TV waiting for something to complain about. If carling did lives, I mean my god...
Why the fuck did they pull the ad there was nothing wrong with it when I first looked at this I was like oh it's going to be two guys making out naked or something but it wasn't at all and I mean it wasn't like the men where even stereotypically gay it was just like two men have a family together and one makes the sandwiches for the kids and prefers to be called mum instead of dad or pa
I'm a gay girl and If I got married I'd personally like to be called dad rather than mum but i'm not butch
I am so glad that he cut off Naomi and her comments..I am not homophobic but...how blind can one person be..God help us all. We have gay, straight, transgender, lesbian, and many many more types of people in this wonderful, lets all life together in harmony, as long as no one is hurting anyone lets all life side by side in peace.
First thing that pops in my head: If a man and a women kiss nobody gives a fuck, suddenly two men kiss on TV and it causes a mass debate. Another point that I'll make too, so many people complained, but so many more didn't which proves that the majority weren't too concerned about it. They don't ban Go Compare commercials because it annoys a million people, but they ban a comercial in which two men kiss on the grounds that a few homophobes don't like it.
That was actually quite a homophobic advert- The punchline was that they were gay. It was playing off the stereotype that all gays are preening scream queens.
200 viewers complained out of how many thousands who saw this ad? Why is it that a small minority of noisy wowsers have so much influence? The kiss wasn't even erotic. It was just a peck on the lips, which is considered very normal in many cultures.
The Heinz gay kiss wasn't even meant to be gay! The chef was supposed to be a WOMAN (hence the mum names) that was transformed into a great chef because of the mayonaise. Some people are just too stupid to realise that!
Have these people who complained ever seen the Cadbury's Flake adverts, there have been adverts for STI's, jeans like Levi, and also those shampoo adverts?? They are almost pornographic and still one after the other are being shown on TV and have been for years!
This has homophobia writen all over it, they didn't give a toss that there was a kiss in the advert, it was because they were two MEN kissing...
And if they have to explain about same sex couples... whos to blame? The parents!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the thing is, same sex relationship isnt normal i know i sound like a homa phobe when i say this but i just believe that it isnt normal and having to explain to a child the reason the 2 men are kissing is just too much and i for one am happy that the ad got removed
Ug, I seriously don't get what the hell all the fuss was about!
What era do these people think we're living in?!
I honest-to-God can't believe that these people can actually COMPLAIN about something as petty as this! It wasn' even a proper kiss, it was a peck on the lips! And imagine now, how same sex couple's children mus be thinking after that rubbish.
It just gets on my nerves when people can find the slightest little thing to flaunt their homophobia at.
Some people still live in the medieval era seriously get over itthere some gay people out there who might find straight people uncomfortable but you probably wont see them complaining.
With "the West" (ie. Britain and America) at war in Afghanistan and Iraq, I think it's refreshing to see a portrayal of love -- whether it's between two men, two women, one of each, or between a donkey and a giraffe) rather than hatred.
And when the 4/5 years old child asks about 2 kissing men/women, she'll hopefully be able to give an unprejudiced answer. The same answer she'd give if the child asks about a man and a woman kissing....
I don't agree with that female caller's opinion but Mathhew had no right to cut her off the way he did. He often won't let people express their point of view and he's often rude and cut's them off or won't let them get a word in and talks over them!

I find the ad strange. No problem with it, just odd. I mean, gay ppl are a minority so why focus the ad on gay men? Most adverts go with what most of us can relate to, so that they will sell more. Also if they're trying to include gay people then wouldn't two lesbians of helped sell the product?
So If I see a advert with heterosexual couples promoting a product, I shouldnt bye it because it doesnt relate to me. If I thought like that I probably end up buying not even the essentials I need in everyday life, as majority of the products I buy are promoted by heterosexuals. Vice versa dude. Just to remind we are living in the 21st centaury not 1780s.
No. Ure missing the point. I'm just saying that consumers are like sheep, they see a product on tv being used by people like themselves and for some reason they are more likely to buy this product. For this reason advertisers make adverts and try to appeal to the masses so that more people will feel the need to buy their product and they'll make more money. That's all i was saying, i just thought that it was strange for an advert to target a minority.
Dude whatever. Your argument still doesnt justify.I guess those ads that target ethnic minorities should be strange equally?
Adverts also can promote the diversity of our societyby including minorities they are relating to the whole of societyeveryday people. Also by promoting diversity of our society they should be attracting a larger target audiencetherefore making more money.
the worst thing is, it wasn't even ment to give a 'gay kiss' image. The idea was to have a new york deli guy making your sandwiches instead of your mum, if it was a hetrosexual kiss people wouldn't be anywhere near as bothered
Well I only know that compared with the religious and conservative fascism that is the states I would pick UK anytime. You Americans scare the shit out off the Europeans.. Even the Italians aint that mean!
At least we know what a laic and free country means.
I couldn't understand why such an ad was even necessary. I wouldn't even want the equivalent 'straight' ad either, as the closest thing to that is those godawful BT ads with Kris Marshall and I've seen them a million times.

Heinz should definitely have stuck to their guns.
The ad was not pornography, and it was lighthearted and fun.
No reason to capitulated to only 200 people - what about the other 70 million who never complained?
