Fucking heartbreaking stuff - so sad - Id love to go there myself - what a band - the greatest band of all time hands down - it was never going to be possible to replace Ronnie - you just couldnt - its another band - just like ABB after Duane or ACDC after Bon - but those bands dont even come close to Lynyrd Skynyrd - they are true legends R.I.P.
Thank's Duane for allowing my wife and I to spend sometime down at the Hell House property a couple of summer's ago. We had a great time and look forward to coming back the next time were in Jax!
Hey Ed! I hope its just family squabbles, but if not then so be it. Divorce happens even in the best of families. reconcilliation maybe? no matter the issue or "who's to blame, fix it before anyone else is gone forever. If ther was a Mt. Rushmore for guitarists, ALL of Skynyrd's would be on it! present too Ricky! You got heart!
Ed king huh... I don't know.why you are downing skynyrd today. They are just trying to keep the music alive. And they are doing a dang good job at it too. So quit your whining that you don't tour with them anymore cuz no one cares, johnny has a more of a right to honor his brother then you and he can do it in any way he sees fit. Quit your whining and shut up.
@101Petercriss101 What qualifies you to make any judgement ? What are your instantly recognizable guitar hooks? You probably cant even tune a 6 string.
Ed, skynyrd was my favorite band growing up and i still have all the album's, up to a point anyway, never had the pleasure of meeting you in person, but i believe your a great musician and a great human being, i admire how you don't sling mud, even when i think you should, and you are honest and to the point, god bless you Ed King, i'd love to hear your comment on a song my band and i have here on you tube. its called " NO WORDS" by ED SOMERVILLE hope to hear your thoughts eitherway
Does Artimus ever play at Whitey's Fish Camp anymore? I remember when that place was puny and they had a 55 gallon drum by the back door with the day's catfish in it.
Hi Ed i think it is great that you are sharing some of these days with us it is nice to here from someone like your self that was directly involved in such a big big way very thankful to see this thank you so much for the great music
If Ronnie had written ANYTHING of importance, don't you think it would've been found and used before now? I wasn't there...but the lyrics reek more of Johnny's writing than they do the brilliance of this brother's.
Wow!...........It took a New Yorker to show us where the Lynyrd Skynyrd hell house was, On Youtube !! Thank GOD, that there was a local guy there. Drinkin' a beer too! I would love to sit on that dock, pop in a CD of Pronounced, toast me a tater, and polish off a 12 pack and fish for a while. I am so glad that it had not yet been developed when cschempp made this pilgrimage to film this. Thanks to you cschempp for making the 2 videos showing us the Lynyrd Skynyrd's Hell House property.
lacy vanzant ronnies dad got them that place hell house lazy knew the farmer that rented to them.sure do miss all those guys.I miss seeing ronnie, allen, leon, billy, artimus, gary,ed and bob play.garys new skynyrd doesnt touch the real skynyrd with ronnie.I met johnny and gary a few years ago but it just aint like it use to be with ronnie.I sure do miss them and there music.god bless you ed I hope your feeling well man.ed do you still play guitar?I saw you play back in 88 and 91 and 95.
@edking1949 God Bless you Ed. We (TRUE fans) miss you. The next time, if ever, I pay for a 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' show will be when you and Artimus are on stage. It's gotten a little ridiculous at this point. I have a close friend who you would know who told me that the chorus to Red, White & Blue was actually written by Ronnie and found years later. Do you think it's true.
@joediver1119 I was told by someone that artimus and ed are banned from the band by gary how nice huh.I dont know how true that is by thats what I hear.Maybe ed can chime in on this one or maybe he wont want to.For me I would go to skynyrd shows to hear the songs but also see the original band members I really dont see the point if its just gary.
This fellow's memory is pretty good...but we never had 'bouncers' or people that worked for us to guard the property or front gate. No one ever bothered us or approached us, though kids would gather on the railroad tracks to listen (including our friend here!). He speaks the truth when he says "There are a lot of memories here." He has NO IDEA!
@edking1949 : I can tell you this...the music you heard while sitting on that train track sounded better than what we were hearing in that small cabin. There were a few times when I'd leave the cabin while the band was playing just to hear what it sounded like down by McGurtz Creek. Water and music GO TOGETHER. ALWAYS sounded better down there...no wonder Ronnie write the rest of all the verses and choruses while down on that dock.
@edking1949 Dude, if your really the Ed King you kick ass! If your an imposter you suck ass! Ed is one of the greatest guitarists EVER! I love his work period! Oh, the stories that id like to hear from him! Skynyrd days and how he got to be in the business! If you are actually "the Ed King" I hope that your doing well, with your health and such. A fan.
@edking1949 Thank you for putting all the effort you do to keep informing people today about Lynyrd
Skynrd. I seen your web page also and its awesome. I live on the St Johns River in Mandarin and have and all the info you gave me makes me proud to be born and raised here. Thankyou for all the work all you and the boyz put in to for people to here great masterpeices of music. God Bless
@edking1949 Hey Ed is this really you? Perhaps you would remember a friend of mine?? His name is Ken Johnson. Went to Robert E Lee High School in Jacksonville. He grew up with the Gary and the rest. He even married Gary's ex-girlfriend. They were married until she passed from cancer many years back? Just like to know if this is really you?
does anyone know the address of where hell house use to be would love to visit there.great video man how about making one of brickyard road or where gary and the bands homes when they were young that would be so cool.
That land never should be built on and they should build another hell house right where it use to be and make it a museum for fans to visit.who ever builds on that land and I hope they dont unless they build another hell house is only in it for money and greed they will feeel that wrath of ronnie vanzants spirit upon them..
Thanks for sharing! just for the record, Nuthin Fancy album material was written and recorded at webb iv studio in Atlanta Ga. It only took 2 weeks to write and record the Nuthin Fancy album. Thats why they called it Nuthin Fancy. Only Saturday night special was written at the hell house. The album cover, front and back as well as pictures inside the album was kind of a farewell to the place where they had spent countless hours writting classic skynyrd songs.
Thanks for the video! I always wondered what happened to it. RIP, brothers....Your legacy is not forgotten by the new generation. Actually, alot of them embrace it.
My stomping ground ....i have played so much music on this property. The man inthe video is my pops who taught me most everything i know... .such and experience to play music by that creek that was wrote there so many years ag o .....Jealous?You should be LOL
wowza! was this ever soooo cool! skynyrd touched me back when i was graduating highschool in '73 and then when i graduated college in '77 i saw them for the 5th time right before my birthday in june '77 in new jersey. i have one of the original albums with the fire behind them and never played it because they got killed before i opened it. thanks for posting this! i am sure you treasure the experience from living it and we get to share in that by watching and listening to you present it.
Jacksonville huh? I was sick in bed back in Oct '77 when that plane crashed and I had a friend come wake my up screaming "Skynyrd's just been wiped out in a plane crash". I saw them in concert back in 1974 at the old Charleston Auditorium. They were good---damn good. I'm sorry if people pestered them so much to where they couldn't enjoy themselves.
why isn't this place made into a museum, a tribute the musical history that was made here? seems someone, maybe even one of the current members or family members would take it and make into somekind of a tribute to ths great music...
I hear your passion but I think it is better to leave it like it is now. It's sad to see a quiet wooded area that was once loud with music and friendship so long ago and to think a legend used to fish off that old dock.
The hell house burned down a few years after Skynyrd left. There was a house built right near there after Skynyrd left which also burned down in the fire. Now that land has been sold and from what I know someone is going to build there.
