HI Ronindennis, That's a very good question because to fully answer it one must look into the very heart of the difference between the western mind and the Japanese mind in regards to the concept of improvisation. jongara bushi is a song but it is also a format for improvising. The openeing phrase being the same is more an example of one option then of something that is "SET in Stone!" In other words by learning Roku Dan you are being introduced to one interpretation out of many.
Hi Shamisendemon, thanks for the reply! My teacher is Japanese, and I do not always fully understand his meaning when he tells or teaches me something. He told me that his Shin Jongara Bushi is only the basic line and that I can improvise when I have comprehended it. In fact, every time when he plays it for me I saw that there are very subtle differences. With your answer, I think I understand now! ;-)
