  • ANyone who doesn't think this is funny needs help of some sort. This might be the funniest clip on youtube. Maybe they need to see some episodes of Rising Damp .

  • great just fantastic

  • amazing!

  • "I guess this is getting a little damp for some!"

  • favourited

  • gold!!!

  • jajajajajaa!!!

  • 3 of the best comedy actors/comedians ever. All sadly missed. None of today's so called comedy 'stars' could match their genius or skill. And unlike today, Morcambe and Wise and Leonard Rossiter didn't have to rely on swearing to get laughs.

  • This is So funny. Awsome. wish we had more of this.

  • Absolutely fantastic.

  • When Thames finally closed down in December 1992 (as an ITV company) they used this clip to represent M&W in their final retrospective of their programming. In reality the relationship between M&W and Thames never lived up to the billing it was given; catching the duo from the BBC made front page news it was such a coup. Sadly Eric's failing health meant the company never had the opportunity to enjoy the success the BBC had with the pair.

  • top gears really gone down hill lately

  • Unbeatable Comedy From 2 legendary Greats

  • @insoucciant I'd say THREE legendary greats. Leonard was one of the best ever comic actors. Just brilliant.

  • 2nd to none. uniquely English. Kept their show for years, and did not need expletives.Would they be as popular to day ? Well, I would like to think that they would, but probably not. Except for a mass of old 'uns like myself.

  • just so funny

  • There's nothing in this clip that is actually funny, it is staid and unimaginative, very lazy and dull. If their script wasn't fully written for them they didn't have a clue.

  • @rialtobaby As any scriptwriter of note will tell you a script means nothing if the performers can't bring it alive. Equally any actor or comedian will tell you that they will fall flat on their behind if the script is no good. The most successful shows are those where the two work in tandem.

  • @rialtobaby You're the dimwit and I claim my ten pounds. Twat.

  • Simply wonderful. Three legends, true legends. A term used too loosely today.

  • Geez this is in black and white what year was this? How long were they together?

  • @wannabenj this was made in the early 1980's and was a spoof of the Andrews Sisters who appeared in black and white films in the 1940's. The shots of the soldiers clapping are from the Second World War too.

  • so sad to think these guys are no longer with us

  • absolutly brilliant

  • Brilliant stuff. Leonard Rossiter is hilarious as always. Thanks for posting this.

  • what the hell? that was very disrespectful.. especially since the andrews sisters are dead now.

  • @ohmypeterxx just a quick correction, patti andrews is still alive and living in california. she sang as a solo until a few years ago.

  • @sickkat44 i know.. but just saying

  • Rossiter, what a legend! Never knew this existed and am so thankful that you've uploaded it! And is it me, or do they all have quite good legs? :D x

  • Well, I've heard them on records. This is

the first time I ever saw them. I kinda thought

maybe they'd be a little more attractive.

    But they sing good.

  • I hope your being ironic rockgor!

  • Leonard Rossiter AND Morecambe and Wise...that's like having King Kong and Godzilla together, in the most monstrously funny way, RIP Geniuses x

  • FANTASTIC

  • omg it just so funny. that would be a funny costume for a halloween party

  • Just fantastic

  • I LOVE LEONARD ROSSITER! he's so fantastic in rising damp XD

morecambe and wise and rossiter. what legends.

  • Long live the legend of Leonard Rossiter

  • Same Rossiter I saw last night in 2001-a Space Oddysey

  • Leonard Rossiter best comedy actor

  • Sobering to reflect that when this was shown first time around, it was nearer in time to WW2 than to 2009

  • .I remember it like it was yesterday...which certainly makes ME feel old...but who cares...it's SO funny...

  • No it wasn't! This was shown in 1980... 35 years after WW2 finished, and 29 years from 2009 :P

  • Comment removed

  • Three stars, and, a million for you!! Excellent!! Thanks, and take care, love, Jennie. X.

  • LOL

    sa'll good :D

    classic :)

  • Ernie

    had the best Legs :)

    TheThreeSisters+MC_PhilipwidDmouse

    followed your genious.

    whoosh

    Jock.

  • ..but lovely shit ;o)

  • Brilliant! Never saw this before. Leonard Rossiter's face during his "solo" ....... marvellous.

  • I thought this was SO unprofessional of Morecambe and Wise = til I saw the original - you mustcheck it out...

  • this must be one of the first tv drag sketches

  • Ern looks like Bette Davis in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane", Rossiter looks like Mrs. Thatcher and Eric looks like, well, Eric.

God bless all three of them!

    xx

  • Absolutely hilarious! Those three are legends!

  • Can there be a classier act?

  • I'd like to know what colours the uniforms would have been, any ideas?

  • my guess was green surely?

  • Remembered this from years ago, always cracks me up! Next time I do a conference with senior people, this must be an opening ice cracker! Assuming the drinks are flowing!! Saw this when I was young on the BBC, thanks to YouTube it's back!!

  • They were better looking than The Andrew Sisters.

  • Eric has the best legs

  • oooohhh nice!!!!! i agree

  • Excelent comedy! They were genius'.

  • Wow, who'd have thought that Rossiter had such great legs! That said, he's still about as graceful as a sack of spuds! This is absolutely comedy genius!

  • it just fun moron. And they aren't drag its legends.

  • oh and another thing MPW look up morcambe and wise on you tube and you will see that they had lots of bits like this, the singing in the rain parode being one of the best and the stripper!

  • good then you can bog off then can't you

  • God, you really are a cretin, aren't you?

  • That was a reply to Mr. Michael Phillip Wright. He really doesn't get that they aren't drag queens, does he? I'm sure American comedians have dressed as women for comedy sketches in the same way. The thing is, when the Andrews Sisters are long forgotten, people will still remember these three comedy legends.

  • look i love the andrews sister as well i adore 40s music and likeleoseies sed above so did they!!! they did parodys of people they loved not to ridicule them bt to celebrate them!!! seriously dont take it to heart! xxx

  • The point of this is that Leonard Rossiter steals this from M & W which is almost unheard of

  • Leonard!!!!

  • When Gene Kelly met Morecambe and Wise, with tongue in cheek, he congratulated them on their Singing In the Rain sequence which he 'so slavishly copied'.

  • I think a Comedy Award should go to MichaelPhillipWright because he is one of the funniest commentators on late 1970s early 1980s British Comedy ever. M&W and Rigsby - Drag Queens - hahahahaha - Priceless. As for an insult to the Andrew Sisters - isn't imitation the ultimate

  • Erm, I thought they were just messing about, but quite accurate in its take on the video it's based on - actually far more entertaining and great British humour. Lovin' it!!!

  • The rediculous converastion that preceeds this had me laughing almost as much as the sketch itself. Please tell me you don't take yourself seriosly. Lighten up dudes!

  • As Morecambe and Wise and Leonard Rossiter are the main names in the title how could any one expect something different? This trio is just as much of a Classic as the Andrew sisters. Maybe time to see some one at spec savers???? Thanks for the posting , it's excellent.

  • Silly? Drag queens? Are you out of your mind?

  • thank you michaelphillipwright for that coment re this trio being drag queens, not laughed so hard in weeks.

  • MPW. I hope you never get to see a British Pantomime - you will blow a fuse!

  • MPW. You still don't get it do you? Morecambe and Wise were huge fans of the Andrews Sisters. Like many people in the UK. I possess every recording the girls made and have been a fan for over 50 years. I also have a sense of humour.

  • i'll bet he's american! They have big problems with drag etc. Theres a whole pantomime tradition in the uk of this stuff! Chill out!

  • ha ha ha you silly ol fool

  • would like to see you be as respected as these are.

  • was it the fact that they were drag queens or the lip syncing that upset you

  • well i'm glad to know that you are merley disgusted and not "upset" as for the "drag queens" i should have used quotation marks as i was quoting you. i guess for some people humor is no laughing matter. it's all lol my man

  • oh shut up you sad, pathetic, git. you need a sense of humour transplant... get life

  • There is a difference between drag queens and three of the most respected British TV comedy stars of all time. Who only very occasionally dressed as women for a sketch. In fact I can't remember seeing Leonard Rossiter in drag any other time.

No offence but I see you're in America, so maybe you don't have much knowledge of British comedy and its history which has long included drag and female impersonators as part of mainstream culture.

  • How frustrating.

    Hahaha!!! Best comment ever!

  • Thats hilarious - you must be an absolute idiot to have expected that - how stupid can one person be?

  • excuse me but those 3 are comedy legends in our country.

  • This is classic and famous because its about the only sketch that Eric didn't steal the show on the finale musical number, Leonard Rossiter did !

  • From 1981 I think.

  • what year is this from?

  • ROTFL that was funny. i love the andrews sisters and i love morcambe & wise, so it's da bomb!

  • it so funny great

  • their father was greek! now that I look at them...they do remind me of "aunties" I know

  • I'm reading Leonard's book on sarcasm ATM-funny stuff.

  • Denise

loved it back than and enjoyed seeing again

  • great, but sadly all 3 are no longer with us

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ha ha! Have you seen MR LONELY - Adapting the novel by Eric Morecambe copy and paste it into the search on youtube! It's excellent! :0)

  • I never realised Leonard Rossiter was so tall.

I think Little Ern's enjoying this too much!

  • This was the last ever clip shown on Thames before they went off air after losing the franchise. Totally brilliant - wise choice. Shame about the choice of Carlton.

  • Great! Superb! Brilliant!

  • It's just goes to show you that Bette Davis was right! (You are born naked, and everything else is Drag!) This get an A+++++++

  • Funny. Ew...giggles...

  • There is a Firefox extension called download helper that will let you download any video from YouTube.

  • I need a copy of this video to save to my computer. Can anyone help me out with this? I would be forver grateful!!!

  • captain johanna quin of the women's army corps.

  • I think PATTY needs a shave

  • I'd never seen this, I can't stop laughing!

  • This is probably my favourite song from the 1940s - but I'm sure watching this sketch was the first time I had ever heard it. Disturbing memories!

  • omg!

  • One of Miss Jones' cast off outfits ?

  • Leonard Rossiter in drag--truly terrifiying

  • he looks like shylock in drag but what a star
