Neat show! But this is the MOST STUPID spud canon operator I've ever seen. At 44sec you can see the operator smoking while handling gasoline ammo. He is a receipe for disaster.

Gasoline is a fuel, NOT an explosive! Gasoline can burn only when exposed to an oxygen (open air).

@Fourteen88SoCal He has steel wool attatched to the bottom of the can, so when the can hits the surface, the can crushes, gas spills out, gets ignited by the steel wool.

You probably know what happens when you put the aquinet (good choice, works really good) in the chamber, get some air in it close it and spark it? Right? The hairspray combusts! (lights on fire) When fire is applied to steel wool, (In the combustion chamber) the wool starts to glow, the gas hits the glowing steel wool, igniting it all.

I worked on an incendiary shell for months until I found a combination that worked.

It was in fact a multitude of technologies that ended up going into it; including home made napalm. To say the least the "shell" is very effective with approx 50yards.

However I wanted a bit more bang. I'd always dabbled in termite and likewise, explosives. Putting gun powder into an already explosive device was asking for trouble...see next post

I gathered aprox 30 grams of thermite, wrapped it around a magnesium strip which was then surrounded with napalm (carefully bundled around the thermite, obviously.)

This was all neatly wrapped in in Styrofoam, cellophane and duct tape.

Upon impact the Styrofoam would burst, and the already burning magnesium wick would ignite the napalm which kept the magnesium burning shortly thereafter igniting the thermite.

It was an impressive display of both light and heat but that's about it-

I decided to further oxidize the thermite, adding potassium nitrate makes thermite into a respectable explosive, while being quite stable in the fact that thermite takes quite high temperatures to ignite (KoN3 is non flammable, merely an oxidizer.)

We loaded three shells with the combination of mag strip, napalm and explosive thermite.

When the shell made contact, it bursted and ignited...the thermite gave a hefty pop blowing a hole through the target barrier. Quite fun.
