Actually, I have watched a movie solely based on the fact that Philip Seymour Hoffman was i it!! Just saw "Flawless" the other day and he was absolutely brilliant in it...co-starred with De Niro and made him look like a beginner!

I agree, i wouldn't book it as a Christmas film, but it was absolutely excellent none the less, and i didn't have to feel like i could fuck any of the characters either.

The film has a rather sterile, cold, look to it, which is a departure from the big explosions, and brightly colored sets your eyes are obviously used to.

I found the movie to be a terrific treatment of what "doubt" does to us, and to our relationships. It was brilliant. The good Sisters who spent many hours teaching children to be the best they can be, were treated with respect. The very few priests who were involved in dispicable acts pale in numbers compared to the teachers in public schools who today are still molesting children and are protected by their unions. I doubt you knew that.

After seeing the Great performance by Streep/Hoffman Streep/Davis, it left me breathless and in awe!

Streep as a Mother Superior was powerfully convincing, from her dark scowl to her pursed lips. She effortlessly bags it!

I enjoyed this tense drama like I would any great drama. Very thought provoking and riviting. Kudos to all in Doubt.

yea so I saw it. It was great. one of my favorite films of 2008. I have seen Milk, Slumdog MIllioanire, and Benjamin button. The acting is amazing tho. Phillip Seymore Hoffmen and Amy adams really stood out to me. Plus it themes that it gives off are very original. I am still thinkng about a lot of it. Anyway go see it.

What's worse is you center your entire diatribe around a strawman argument.  I hope you realize there are two types of movies released in December: holiday blockbusters and awards contenders. Doubt is clearly the latter.

The studios aren't hoping to reign in the millions of family moviegoers. They're looking to attract the film snobs that appreciate Oscar-winning actors, Oscar-winning screenwriters, and Pulitzer-winning playwrights. Those such people will be quite pleased with the result.
