saw the movie. too ambiguous and slow, i hated all the characters and wasted 2 hours of my life. Having said that i find you to be absolutely correct about everything you said and this video was no bullshit comedy
i like hundreds of movies - miller's crossing, trainspotting, fantasia, dumbo, there will be blood, and hundreds of others. almost anything by sturges, wilder, coens, and many others.
Actually, I have watched a movie solely based on the fact that Philip Seymour Hoffman was i it!! Just saw "Flawless" the other day and he was absolutely brilliant in it...co-starred with De Niro and made him look like a beginner!
I understand this is mostly just in jest, i hope at least.
But superficial humor of this type isn't my style... especially when speaking about such a fantastic film.
I agree, i wouldn't book it as a Christmas film, but it was absolutely excellent none the less, and i didn't have to feel like i could fuck any of the characters either.
The film has a rather sterile, cold, look to it, which is a departure from the big explosions, and brightly colored sets your eyes are obviously used to.
Just to show you how stupid this reviews statemnt that there are only angry nuns, google Sisters of Life. There are emotionally psycologically health nuns who are happy. In fact most of them are. I posted the information and the stuff below because, yes, everything matters.

Just google public school teachers and child sex abuse and see al that come up about them.
Their unions usually cover it up. So the kid who goes to the movie to watch doubt also has to watch the teachers, Hasidic Jewish men and protestant ministers.
Garry Toavs, 58, pleaded guilty to molesting a girl, in separate court hearings Thursday. Toavs, pastor of Evergreen Alliance Church, was originally charged with sexual offenses with two girls, ages 12 and 5. In exchange for his guilty plea, one of the charges was dropped. Hasidic girl molested by 59-year-old

A 59-year-old man lured a 13-year-old girl to his Brooklyn home where he exposed himself to her and rubbed her breast, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said.
I found the movie to be a terrific treatment of what "doubt" does to us, and to our relationships. It was brilliant. The good Sisters who spent many hours teaching children to be the best they can be, were treated with respect. The very few priests who were involved in dispicable acts pale in numbers compared to the teachers in public schools who today are still molesting children and are protected by their unions. I doubt you knew that.
listen, lunatic apologist for organized religious molestation - where do you get your numbers? catholic dioceses all over america have had to pay out tens of millions of dollars to their victims with more lawsuits coming and more money to be doled out and more victims!!! very few priests???? read the papers! and then extrapolate and think of all the tens of thousands of victims who were afraid to speak up.
Have you read of all the sexual abuse by the Hasedic Community, have you read of the sexual abuse by teacher is the public schools. Sexual abuse is a horror not limited to priests so take your Anti Catholicism elsewhere. We should be about abolishing child abuse in every community not just pointing our anti religious fingers.
the movie and the play are about the catholic church or didn't you notice? and please, when you're denigrating people learn how to spell - Hasidic for one, despicable for another. so please take your uneducated, anti-union, anti-Enlightenment views and crawl back under that rock. move to any theocratic, autocratic county, you'd fit in perfectly.
I would think the movie is about DOUBT and its effect on relationships. Or did that pass you by. It isn't so much poor spelling on my part as poor typing skills. I am very happy in America living among people who respect the religions of others, unlike yourself you anti Catholic bastard.
Pathetic, uneducated rubbish!!! I am referring to Mr David Castro! An educated review would be worth listening to regardless of their opinion. This however is offensive and not worth any further time!
blueintheblueridge or videosforblogs, whatever, get a life.
Go masturbate you, you loser! Streep is out of of your league. Move on.
Doubt, sorry to have to break the news to both videosforlogs and his other alter ego, was brilliant. You want to take me on in defence of Meryl, you loser? I throw down the gauntlet. Let the chips fall where they may!
so, where to begin? yet another mother superior with a dark scowl and pursed lips? no, this cannot be. what a daring choice. but then again, how else to play a stock character from Drama 101? i'm glad to know you enjoyed it "as you would any great drama". i'm sure ibsen and pinter and albee and chekhov are thrilled. and if you're going to a COMEDY INTERNET SITE for movie reviews (or "rewiews" in your world), you're in dire need of critical appraisal skills. as well as a sense of humor.
yea so I saw it. It was great. one of my favorite films of 2008. I have seen Milk, Slumdog MIllioanire, and Benjamin button. The acting is amazing tho. Phillip Seymore Hoffmen and Amy adams really stood out to me. Plus it themes that it gives off are very original. I am still thinkng about a lot of it. Anyway go see it.
suburban enemy: at 16, don't just take what they give you. demand better. and sharpen your critical appraisal skills. tell me why these movies were "great" in your estimation. and what are those "original" themes in Doubt? please, help educate me and i will be grateful. seriously. and keep coming to the site. you might have some fun.
well the performances great which was exspected but it had a very dark feel to it that I liked. and the theme of the movie which happens to be the title of the film. It rly got you thinking. It is hard to explain but you should just go see it. anyway yeah i will come back and i will subscibe 2 just keep doing movie reviews. and even though you are just kidding seriously give a honest review.
are you saying GUYS go to see movies to DO only women because there are women actors in it? correction GUYS DO people whatever gender they choose. and the reviewer is a guy so i guess you do everything too. not just women. this review of yours should be corrected.
Yea I am 16 and I will be going to see doubt on saturday. The people who appreciate good film will be the ones who are going to see doubt. No one expects mainstream movie goers to be attracted to this film....so shut up
umm it's 1:00 clock in the morning where i live. I will be seeing it later when I wake up. I will come back and tell you how it was. I know you where just kidding around tho. I just wanted to be clear that SOMEONE will be going to see doubt. today I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and it was pretty good. be back tommrow
Castro, this i love. Very everyman, observational humor. The only thing that I disagree with you is that as a preteen with hormones, i thought a krammer vs, kramer Streep was semiattractive. But, you are right, Jessica Alba would have made the picture better.
culver city dave: this is the humor of the shtetl, straight from the streets at the intersection of attitude and cynicism, and big city loud! so glad you liked it and there will be more!!!
What's worse is you center your entire diatribe around a strawman argument. I hope you realize there are two types of movies released in December: holiday blockbusters and awards contenders. Doubt is clearly the latter.
The studios aren't hoping to reign in the millions of family moviegoers. They're looking to attract the film snobs that appreciate Oscar-winning actors, Oscar-winning screenwriters, and Pulitzer-winning playwrights. Those such people will be quite pleased with the result.
I have seen it and will see it again. Do you have anything substantial to see about the movie? Have you even seen the movie? I 'doubt' it, to mock your own attempt at verbal cleverness.
videosforblog, no doubt about it, you've got a serious case of a receeding hairline so you are not cool and no one listens to a bald guy telling us what is cool or what is not. You are tickling our tastebuds!
Don't kid yourself, Meryl would not even want you to sniff her shoe bottom on her worst day and we her fans would not want you to get hold of her shoe either!
Doubt...we would be there and you can't help it! Meanwhile...go get laid, will yah!
You are completly wrong about all that.
If it was rubbish, then why was Meryl up for an Oscar for it.
I think that proves it wasn't rubbish at all.

After seeing the Great performance by Streep/Hoffman Streep/Davis, it left me breathless and in awe!
Streep as a Mother Superior was powerfully convincing, from her dark scowl to her pursed lips. She effortlessly bags it!
I enjoyed this tense drama like I would any great drama. Very thought provoking and riviting. Kudos to all in Doubt.
It was never meant that we get our movie rewiews from the balding guy who cleans the well in our basement on very bad days.
