Was this really made using the "EZ-Keys" software? I was a "personal care assistant" (basically a CNA who IS allowed to use the suction machine and the Hoyer lift) for a guy with with ALS for a few years and he had the "EZ-Keys" program with a scroll/select button that he could push with his head. This is EXACTLY what the voice sounded like, and I think Hawking actually invented the program specifically for patients with ALS and Muscular Dystrophy and other neuro-muscular degenerative illnesses.
I think it's because smart people are the minority and stupid people don't appreciate this stuff. If you want something to be popular, you have to make it really stupid, like that annoying orange video.
