Joss whedon didn't put amber benson in the opening credits because she wasn't in all of the episodes of the show :( . But he decided to put her in the opening in the episode she dies because he said he had always wanted to put a character in the opening of the episode they die to surprise the fans! Thats something he wanted to do at the beginning of the first season with willow and xander's friend Jessy, But he couldn't coz of the WB.

You know he actually wrote her off because she got pregnant with her husband's kid. That's so ironic: A woman, written off a show (in which she has a relationship with another woman) because of her relationship with a man. I might possibly be able to clear this up, it actually depends on where you live as to how she sounds. I kid you not. In the PAL areas (Europe, Australia) every episode of Buffy was shown at a 4% faster speed than the rest of the world due to something about the different frame rates between PAL areas and the rest of the world. It was the same with the DVD. Speeding it up that little bit changes the pitch of her voice slightly. So if one of you are european and the other isnt, that explains it.
