Ian Hunter's version is far better, since he wrote it. Which is surprising since he's a rocker and this isn't usually his style. It IS Manilow's style but I just don't feel any power in it, the Hunter version gives me chills. This just seems weak.

very beautiful song and it can be related to a lot of things in life. Barry has always been one of my favorite singers since I was younger and I still love Barry and always will, he has a very soothing kind of voice. Ian Hunter who wrote this song, say's that everyone expects him to slag off this cover, prob because Ian's a real old rock'n'roller, but he doesn't. In fact he praises it. I myself do prefere the original. Try for yourself

I remember as a child seeing Barry on a tv special where he said his dad abandoned him and his mom when he was young. His father showed up at a gig and Barry told him he was glad he was doing well, but he has moved on and did not want to reconcile with his father. Any other Fanilows remember this?

sorry to disappoint you all, but the original recording by Ian Hunter ( who wrote the song ) is a hundred times better than this effort. it has much more feeling to it , give it a listen for yourself. I rest my case.

I know its about his father but my great grandmother died and the reason this gives me memorys is because she had a player piano and she loved that song and she had that for the piano ♥ R.I.P. and everyone elses lost loved ♥

How long did it take you to make this? The song is already beautiful and strong -- your images (including the lyrics, even down to the font you used) -- I admit I got a little weary of the zooming in and out, but I'm being overly critical, it's VERY effective and moving. Thank you.
