Molyneux explained in rough detail Fable 3's storyline. You are a peasant, under the rule of a ruthless king, you decide its enough and you slowly work him down to the point you out-right kill him and the people name you the new king. You then take the reigns as king, choosing whether to be a ruthless dictator-ish king or a the peoples generous overwhelmed king.

I believe this either setting up more of a reason -why- the character you will play in Fable 3 is destined for greatness, maybe the king you cast down stole the throne from your birth-right and you don't know your real heritage as a noble and heroic blood line. Perhaps this is showing events of your child during Fable 3? We won't know untill we get more information about the third sequel.

It has already been confirmed in several interviews with Lionhead developers that it is the same Theresa from the first game, and if you look in the heroes guild you can clearly see the "good" mosaics from the first game meaning you did not take the sword
