@daveeeee5 Chet's career first went to a serious level when the Carter Family 'adopted' him while they were all at KNOX in Knoxville. He stayed with the Carters until they were offered a spot on the Grand Ole Opry. It's still a legend that the Carters turned down the offer, because the Opry didn't want Chet as part of the act. Ezra Carter told Opry management, "no Chet, no Carters", and they finally changed their minds.
I remember when June did mostly comedy. I loved to watch her and miss knowing she is gone. She was a special lady as well as her mom, Mama Maybell. A wonderful family they were!!!
My Grandfather Leamon P. Vance Had Jam sessions with Little Jimmy Dickens, Hank Williams, he played and sang with Them in the 30's, 40's, 50's and/or very early 60's...They made a few Audio tapes back then, I can not find Grandpa's music...It was recorded and I want to hear his voice again..I was 31/2 the last time I saw my grandad..Anyone know anything about these sing alongs?, they would go to each others houses and practice.......And I Miss June Carter Cash, I just loved her so much.

About 25 years ago I watched this program (The Country Show). Every week in 1957 or 58 the show (A Gaylord film) was made on color film. About 1985 it was rebroadcast on channel 69 San Diego. Every day at 5:00 am this station broadcast a show.
June was a member of the pioneer family of country music: The Carter Family. She was on the Grand Ole Opry as a little kid, and legend has it that Johnny Cash fell in love with her listening to her on the Opry with her folks. It was in the movie, too!
@pegcage Almost true. The Carter Family didn't appear on the Opry until the late 1940s. Until then, they were best known for their programs on high-powered XERF in Del Rio, Texas, then later broadcasting from Charlotte, Richmond and Knoxville. They moved to the Opry as regulars (with Chet Atkins as part of the 'family') in 1949, after a short time broadcasting from Springfield, MO.
According the John Carter Cash's book, the movie has some historical 'errors'.
hey, isnt that Eric Clapton on the guitar? I think it is.

It appears to show Duane Allen later famous with the Oak Ridge Boys at the 2:00min mark. He is in the bottom left hand corner as part of the crowd.

Nice Video With Little Jimmy Dickens & June Carter Cash or June Carter
animeboy4496 2 years ago
its so ironic that the carter family (the start of country music) would take under their wing
(chet atkins) someone that would so over produce country music that it would change and commercialize country music forever

It looks like she's putting a pill or mint in her mouth at 1:31. Was it normal to do things like that on TV at that time?!
