Tanimura wrote this song when he visited China in late the 70's. Saw the remote rural landscape with nothing but only stars at night.

All stars eventually decay & vanish....In this song, he's determined to go forward & saying good bye to the stars. Very sad but also a message of hope & courage.

Despite the bitter past between China & Japan, the important thing is to overcome these difficulties & go forward together in peace.

Tis the opening of the 2010 Shanghai Expo. It's politically intriguing that a Japanese singer had the honour. I've sung this song in a high school performance. At the New Talent Contest in HK in 1982, when Anita Mui won, this Japanese singer was the special guest. He was invited to do a demonstration for all the contestants. 28 years later, his hair all turned grey.

@stargazer0812 我纠正一下，“昴”也就是“Subaru”这首歌，词、曲都是谷­村新司作的。本曲于1977年在日本全国发行大碟（当时还没有C­D）。之后香港的江羽，也就是郑国江将此曲填入中文词，由邓丽君­，罗文等人陆续翻唱。谷村新司近年无代表作品。之前（约15年前­）和加山雄三合作的一首"サライ"　（Sarai）也是娓娓动听。
