when playstation came out, my grandpa got MGS and me and my lil bro would watch him play it, then we started playing it, then 2, 3, but I haven't played 4 yet, but when they show the old shadow moses mission there was the biggest smile on my face, I NEED THIS GAME
This was the reward for everyone who played MGS from the start. I felt a knot in my throat when the song started playing and when the surveillance camera fell off it's old and rusty hinges I was almost in tears and realized that both in the game's timeline AND in reality it had been 10 years since I first had to sneak past that camera. Nobody who didn't play MGS1 when it came out could feel that way. That was Kojima's way of saing "Thanks for your support all those years. Let's end it together."
the second i entered the heliport and looked toward the front of the building i just put the controller down and let the tears flow. aside from the story of the game which is epic enough in its self i thought back to my own childhood. the time went so fast i swear i feel like I've got accelerated aging too in this scene. i literally just sat back in my chair and brought my hand to my face. what an intense emotion. Well done Mr. Kojima.... Very well done...
I've played MGS1 few days ago and ended it and I didn't cry !!!
and I still cry when I watch this scene in MGS4 :'( it brings a lot of memories, memories when I first played this game in my life 12 years ago!! I can't believe how fast the years can go.. look at this place now?!
I remember the first day I've ever played this game just by watching this scene when Old Snake goes back to Shadow Moses and the he remembers the catchy conversations! Brilliant Game. it's just like real life not a game
This is why I hate FPS games like COD or battefield....because they cant give me chills....so sad games today sell nothing but HD graphic...Oh...How I miss the old days where japanese rpg and action games still ruled the earth....
And why were Chaff granades so hard to get a hold of in this game? Not even Drebin stocked them!!.......As you can see, as great as this game is, i still have issues with it that I never had in previous Metal Gear games.
It's amazing how much I was effected by the return visit to Shadow Moses. With the music and flashbacks to the camera falling from it's hinges. New comers had no clue what this meant to those who were there playing the original MGS. Even the word Epic fails to justify this scene.
i feel so old when played this part, damn i remembered when i played with my dead friend back he said "what will graph look in mgs4 and 5" but sadly he died in 2008 2 months before the game was released so i bought 2 copy of this game and give one to my friend's grave hope that he can play in the grave
There is really no game IMO that can touch this franchise. When I played this for the first time with the part when the music starts when you come into the heliport. I understood why I have loved these games for so long. that scene gets me everytime, but the first time was so fucking epic. Kojima is the master.
I cracked up at this part when I played it, and then once I began playing as old snake and the music began it went from funny to emotional. Something about it triggered some weird memory tunnel linking to my present haha. Good stuff man.
@Yomamma1338 True he could have planned some scenarios in advance but, Kojima himself actually stated that he did in fact make some of the story up as he went along :)
@Yomamma1338 Nah they did, scripts were done about 4 months in advance to pre-planning the games. Ideas were used that were discussed but it's all down to the cleverness and brain power of those involved. MGS is the most complex but genius story in the history of Videogames. Just look at the MGS4 Database.
ok so i cant afford this game or a playstation 3 so would like a little bit of explaning number 1: why does the life bar say old snake instead of just snake? and number 2: why does the metal gear sound like a freaking cow?
@fkjetfox in this one Snake is retired but called for one last mission. so he's old now. if you never cried from a video game after playing this you have to feel something. especially if you played the first 3
@fkjetfox Old Snake is also now known as 'Old' since his rapid ageing disease -a result of his cloning- make him appear much older; Snake is 42 in this game.
when i first played the game and came onto this scene with all the flashbacks just set the scene to a t and made everything fall into place...hours of enjoyment playing on all 4 games to do with mgs and like a comment i saw previous...coming back to where it all started and finish it and with the songs...i take my hat off to the producers because they sure as hell worked over time on this scene!!
This was epic... returning to Shadow Moses in the game also made me return to the thrills I had playing MGS in PS1. Snake wasn't the only one remembering, we were remembering too
i downloaded this free on my Computer. Google "ps3 quick download" and click the first link. It's a admirable game! All the latest ps3 games are there for download on the ps3quickdownload site!
i downloaded this on my laptop for sure as hell free. type in google "ps3 quick download" and it's the first link. What a absolutely woooonderful motion picture. All the latest games can be downloaded from the "ps3quickdownload" website! just google "ps3quickdownload"
I only wish this level let you explore more about the first metal gear, like all the flashbacks, I WISH THEY WOULD SHORE MORE; like the first time you fought Sniper wolf...
this is by far the best leverl of the game. It feels so nystalgic. it takes me back the first time I fought the first game; i remember it clearly, and the flashbacks were great
@Mech0515 That's something that's kinda putting me off MGS4 for now. Sneaking was the most fun! Especially in the opening chapters of MGS1. MGS4 looks, to me, dangerously like any other third-person shooter - the sneaking and stealth was the unique part of MGS, from the start. Plus Snake getting old? Errm...not sure on that. Still though, looks awesome :)
@TangmereTornado Don't worry, It's still a stealth game. It just has some third person shooter mechanics so people who don't like to play the game stealthily will enjoy the gameplay a little more. Besides, if you even try to play the game like a shooter at any difficulty higher than solid normal, you WILL die. A lot.
Man I loved this mission.Best part of this game actually....I remember MGS1 was my first game for PS1 along with Nascar 2000 (LOL) I was like 9 yrs old soo playin this at my current 21 yrs of age took me back in time for a moment !!! XD
i agree!! its my favorite part of the game, i just hate that they couldnt give us more access to more of Shadow Moses, like where he met Myrel in the women's bathroom, or met Baker
its like the dream from metal gear solid 3 wen snake is in prision and if you turn off and then on, you play a castlevania like game were you can kill zombiez?. whit snake of course.
i love these games so much,i remember when my dad bought MGS1 in 1998 i didnt play it for a year though when i was 5 best game i ever played want this one so bad, i remember all the parts of it from this video the helipad the cameras the elevator all of it the voices, hideo kojima made the best game series of all time
especially with the awesome amount of weaponry that you can choose from.
I tried to get the big boss emblem on my 4th and 5th playtrough.. but failed. Big Boss Extreme is so hard.. when playing on this difficulty you have to sneak, otherwise you wont get past the first chapter.
When I first found out snake was gonna go back to Shadow Moses island I was like OMFG NO WAY!
when he arrives at the heliport 9 years later, and you hear the song "the best is yet to come" ...definetly the most nostalgic feeling EVER in a videogame.
