I've got too much corn to deal with. If I did that I'd fill my front yard with shocks. :-) The gals in the operation make me plant a couple of rows of "indian" (multicolor) corn late and we shock it for decorations in the front yard though.
when I'm done with my corn, instead of tilling it under or mowing it, I cut it with a corn knife and bind it with string. makes for nice yard decoration.
reminds me of what i put my little 89' STX38 threw... tough mowers if they can double as flail choppers lol mowin brush at 3 in the mornin with the lights i rigged there like who the f!@# is mowing lol
We mow the corn so we can quickly plant a crop after the corn is harvested. This is a garden in town, so we can't burn but we wouldn't anyway because of danger to neighbors.
Yep it's got an 18 hp engine and it requires those wheel weights - otherwise I accidentally burn rubber on the driveway when mowing when I change directions - not to mention what it does on grass with dew on it. Seems like that's the only way we've been able to mow this year. :-)

That 1968 John Deere handles it easily with no problems.
New JDs can't handle it, most new tractors can't. The older Tractors like JDs, Allis Chalmers, Simplicitys, Masseys, Cubs, they all can handle very tough jobs.
I'm right in the middle of a city - with a burn ordinance. Houses are too close even if we lived out in the country - that corn is very green - we cut it the minute the ears are harvested for another crop. Those little OLD Deers are way lots stronger than the grass only machines - this one is 40 years old.

I really don't think they were designed for mowing corn down. Just shows you how tough these old JD garden tractors are.

Sweet corn - You are correct.
jq730d 4 years ago
You picked it first by hand, right? Was it sweet corn, or feed corn? You're mowing it, and then you'll plant over it, after you till it in, right?
