Its not that simple.. the lead off runs roughly 10.1high to 10.3, the anchor runs about 8.9 to 9.1.. the backstretch runner runs a similar time and the 3rd leg about a 9.3/9.4. Remember, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th leg runners get the baton at full speed.

that was back in the day. the french held the world record in relay in 37.79 for a year and on that day america took it back. the french coach used to say the most important is how fast is the baton, they had a very good relay technique .but honestly on those days how could anyone compete with that american team -marsh, burrell, mitchell & his majesty lewis?
