Ok in all honesty, Arnel is awesome. Let's face it, he is the closest thing to

Steve. Arnel's voice is much softer and therefore his voice floats, while Steve's is much stronger, and much more coarse ( that is what makes him the best). An while we can no longer have Steve as part of Journey, it is safe to say that Arnel does probably the best job. And Steve, needs to get his ass back to singing because I miss him!!!

Why is Steve's section mixed quieter? For starters in 1980 things were compressed to f..k. Steve Perry live was actually better than on record and that was never the case back in those days (before PA standards made the great leap forward). You want to know who is the best?? I think that they are both incredible but arnel puts more into it because he isnt quite as good as steve i mean i hear more soul out of arnel and no it isnt simply because his section is louder. I have seen Perry, Augeri and last month I saw Pineda. I left the show early because it sucked so bad. Pineda is a shit front man and the new material sounded like ass. Two things I like about the way Pineda performs these songs -

1. He sounds less "California" than Perry.Just slightly more like a soul singer than Perry. 2. He ennunciates the words way better than Perry who slurred everything he sang.I actually understand the lyrics with Pineda.

@jrnyfn1981 I could not agree with you more.For so many worldwide (including myself in New Zealand) Steve Perry will forever be 'the voice' of Journey and therefore he is irreplaceable in that band. When he couldn't tour because of his hip issues and Neal Schon etc chose to replace him with other singers they should have changed the name of the band like Steve had asked them to. I call this band New Journey now because without Steve Perry Journey will never be the band it once was.
