You can hit a draw by slightly closing the face at address and hitting in to out. As far as where you hit the ground, that has to do with the rotation of the spine and shoulders relative to the release. It can be changed at will by a pro.
this is great. I've been taking golf lessons recently, and my instructor tells me to shift weight and hips forward during the swing to correct my horrible slice - yet never really explained what might be the reasoning behind it. watching this video did.
@sweeneni - ouch! By making this vid, I am saying how my game hasvgreatly improved from discovering the stack and tilt method which this is. This vid is my own interpretation of it that I felt I had to make because of the breakthrough it gave me. Golf is so much more fun when you have a chance at a decent score. At bobmacdon. I'm only 21 and have been playing golf since I could remember. A big problem with golfing is the tee shot. However 75% or more of the game is short game. It's true that the swing forms a circle, but it should be more of a "vertical" circle than the "horizontal" one shown in your video. And if you look from the top, the club head should indeed be travelling on a straight line. Otherwise how could anyone one hit straight, ever?

It took me about a solid year with the Stack and Tilt method and now the results are paying off BIG TIME! This internet example is great! I practice the slow motion drill with a weighted club every night. On the downswing you are always swinging the clubhead across the target line and out to the right. Your hands then release, NOT FLIP, the club face . This produces a draw or a little bit of a hook, but the clubhead path is ALWAYS out to the right, across the target line. David B.

so much with my game and helped me also to decode the swing mystery. Your video should be posted on the s&t web page; that's how simple and helpful it is.
once again well done and thank you for posting this.
not so sure about the instruction...but I like the graphics....I would rather hit hit straight then hook...which is what it looks like you are asking us slicers to do. but hey, I will take any tips right now...I finally got my long iron game on...just gotta work the drivers
I sure you're right. but why would I take golf tips from someone who couldn't hit the driver straight for ten years. So could you not even hit it say 150 yards with the driver? I'veonly been playing a little while and you can push it with the driver further than a long iron with a half swing. I'm just having trouble believing that for TEN years you played golf without using a driver? you didn't experiment or change clubs or get tips online or see a pro?
@BlameURtools - I'm not asking you to take tips from me at all! Yes, it's true I played without a driver for ten years. Tried everything I could think of from reading books and tips from magazines etc nothing really was consistently effective. I had many lessons from many pros that never really got anywhere. I also didn't really want to make such an adjustment where I'd have to compensate for elsewhere in my swing. This method allows me to use my regular swing with just a few tweaks to my weight
I am SO impressed. It has straightened my drive perfectly and I barely need to put any effort into it and I'm hitting near 300 yard drives! Does this work with irons too? My irons are fairly consistently straight just now and then I do go a round where I'm pushing my iron shots right. So if this technique works for the whole bag I would be over the moon! Thanks for posting
Great video, it's so easy to eradicate your slice using this technique. I've showed my friends this and it works for them. A bit trickier with the irons but an improvement none the less. Nice work!
I started youngish at about 12, played until i was 16 and stopped out of frustration. Recently i have started again and my swing has definitely naturally improved.... except for my driving which is as bad as ever :(
My driver is the only club I slice. Everything else, including my long irons is a draw. I've tried everything. I draw a 2 iron, but can't hit a driver anywhere but OB right. Why?
@lancer525 - well, that was pretty much the case with me until a few years ago. I can't say for sure without seeing your swing, but for it was this: the driver is a lot longer than ALL the clubs and takes longer to reach the impact position. I was turning my hips way too soon and they weren't far enough ahead of the ball at impact, leaving my hands behind, forcing an out to in path and a slice. This swing forces you to keep your weight forward giving you arms time to catch up. Hope this helps.
@lancer525 I had the same issue. Try to focus on as much shoulder turn as possible on your back swing with your driver but also with your irons. Keep your arms loose and light. It worked for me. Not only did i gain 20 with the greater turn but after a few weeks practice i found i started to be able to control my shots heaps better. Start your downswing with your lower body. It also helped me to have less lateral hip movement as you dont need to over compensate with arms/hips to try get speed.
@Grantvity - Well, it's difficult to say for sure what might be causing your slice even with this method. But as I said in the video, it's a combo of out-to-in swing path, open clubface and weight distribution that causes a slice. Try practising many times without a ball in slow motion - (like Tai Chi) to train your muscle memory. Make sure your right elbow touches your right waist on the downswing and keep it there as you turn your body and hips (this helps hit an in-to-out path).
i have the same banana slice with any driver that I hit. I watched this video before my round yesterday and finally hit a nice straight drive with absolutely zero slice. Hit a few more nice ones after that as well. Can't wait to go the range and hit some more. i love golfing more than anything (except my wife of course) and this could be the best thing to ever happen to my game. Thanks!
Fantastic, great video. After viewing it, I went to the driving range, and in one session, my chronical slices have gone. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to build the video, it is easy to understand and to apply, and the result is immediate. You really saved my games. ( I sliced the ball for 8 years since I played golf , and now think that I am able to fix this, with the help of your vid).
A great video... i have been using youtube for the past 2 years bt today i made an account just to comment on this video...Great one...Just a problem that i had that my driver dint have much of loft...But still...Cheers
I've only played golf for 4 years. I've never had profession instruction. Two months ago I bought a new driver thinking that my slice was a product of old clubs/technology. It turns out I was mishitting the ball even more with the new driver.
Last week I came across this video, went right to the golf range and miraculously started hitting the ball straight. As I saw my drives straighten out I gain confidence in my swing and by the end of that bucket of balls I could drive them 280+ yrds. THK U!
I can produce a draw with an open clubface or a fade it is about the path and you hit on that. If one cannot produce it with a proper swing, I can see the value in your mechanical adjustment. However, I would like to work with anyone for a few weeks on a non-exaggerated fix and just swinging the club properly. I think there is more value in this for a lifetime of golf.
It worked for me. I can hit my driver without slicing it now. I still occasionally push-slice when I forget to do something (slide hips forward), but I've hit some nice draws and mostly straight balls. I've also hit some hooks, which is a good thing for a person who was slicing every ball severely. I also now get some pop-ups here and there. My advice is to tee the ball lower and don't get too wide in your stance (makes it hard to shift the hips).
Another way to stop a slice is to roll your right hand grip clockwise (as viewed from your eye point of view) a few degrees. Left hand stays the same. I sliced for forty years before figuring this out. It really works! I like your video - very professional.
@WECantThink - changing you right-hand grip to a stronger grip works to some extent, but doesn't really help correct the out-to-in swing path common to most slicers. On the whole, doing that would turn a slice into a slight fade depending on your arm rotation. Turning it into a draw with control might be harder. However, if it works well for you that's wonderful and I'm glad it does. We all have a different swing and what might work for some, won't for others otherwise we'd all swing the same.
NB - I get nothing from making this video except for the knowledge that I'm helping others that are in the same position I was once in before discovering the Stack and Tilt method. :-) If you really wish to learn more about this method, the inventors have a DVD and book out. There is a lot more to the method to what I have mentioned here. These are only the basics and theory in my own words.
Hey thanks for this video! I tried the stack/tilt method last week on the range and it seemed to work better, but the true test is on the course. I played today and I really hit the ball more consistently straighter! if you struggle with a slice that you just cant seem to fix, i definitely recommend this technique.
Peter, you almost brought me to tears today. I watched your video then went straight to the range to hit a few. Lo and behold, the ghastly slice that has tormented me for much of my golfing life was nowhere to be found. I thought it was a fluke, until I found myself hitting the second bucket of balls just as straight as I did with the first bucket - WITH MY DRIVER!! I have already booked a threesome for tomorrow. My buddies are in for quite a surprise! Thanks again!!
Very good video that truly helped me.It had a lot to do with the weight distribution and changing the angle a little from the clubhead to the left shoulder.I also thought more about the heads opening (closure) and my own direction now. Thanks a lot.The night I found your video, I had watched maybe 20 pro videos on the same subject.Your video was the most useful.I would recommend to people to maybe test out the 60/40 left to right weight distribution you talk about, and then reduce it bit by bit.
Thanks. I have had problems on and off with my driver. I can be super long and straight one hole and then horribly right on the next. I tried this on the range, and though it felt a little awkward it definitely improved consistency. I have played 36 holes now, and found that aside from losing a little distance, I am much more accurate from the tee. The distance lost I think is because I can't generate as much club headspeed, but most of those yards were in the woods anyway!
Thanks for the tips. I've been trying to get rid of a driver slice for a long time and last night I tried your recommendations out on the driving range with very good results. The two key changes that I made were more weight on my left foot than my right foot and hands forward the ball, both while addressing the ball. I also made sure that my club head did not break the plane of my swing. Hard to believe that these small changes can make such a big difference. Thanks again.
I'm very pleased it helped you. It's all about the physics of what's happening really. Club hits ball - how club hits ball - how to make it hit ball correctly!!
No. It means you still play the ball from the conventional position of in line with the left heel for the driver and gradually further back towards the centre for irons. It's your centre of balance that favours the left side more (making it seem like the ball should go back). Good luck.
The main difference is that with this swing you NEVER transfer your weight back to your right foot on the backswing. It stays on the left! Instead on the backswing, you straighten your right leg keeping you head dead still too.
For the stack and tilt swing, your backswing needs to be quite shallow and flat (not steep and vertical). Aim to have your hands level with your right shoulder on the top of the swing and behind you a bit. Bring them through so that your right upper arm and right elbow stick to your ribcage and avoid separating them until after impact. Push your hips far out to the left while keeping your head still. practise in slo mo and then speed up gradually. See how you get on.
This video really did help my drive. I typically use my 3I hybrid off the tee box because i fear my horrible slice with my driver. Last week i used the info from this video at the course without even practicing. I hit 6 drives in the fairway, 6 drives slightly off the fairway (in bounds and still playable), and 2 drives out of bounds. Not to mention the added 20-40 yds I gained by not slicing. I like those #'s for trying it for the 1st time. Thanks for the help!
@iamchris4lifefan11 - ha ha you really like the music? It's something I just knocked up in Propellerhead's Reason in a couple of minutes! Thanks anyway!
@sourmilkman I find if the grip is just right and not too tight with the interlocking grip if the swing is just right the ball will go straight and up
i got help im a power hitter so every drive i try to hit it as hard as a i was always slicing but what i was doing wrong was my club face was open all the way which will make it slice and my belly button was not pointing straight if this advice that this guy gave does not work try mine i can hit 9/10 times without slicing so remember after impact close the head of ur club and ur belly button is straight down the middle if u do it right it will work
looks like good advice, a slight inside to outside is no secret to longer shots, this is nice that it's not just rhetoric it actually has useful advice... well i'm about to try it and find out atleast
@SupairDup - thanks. Some folks get it first go, some need more practice as it is quite different to what one usually is used to. Let us know how you get on. Good luck.
Thanks cool. I'm very pleased for you. Some people still doubt this technique, perhaps it doesn't work for everyone, but I'm very glad it worked for you. Put some practise in, get their book or DVD and enjoy your game from now on!
So I saw this video after searching around to a lazy fix for my game- no consistency, perennial slice and I don't play or practice enough. I played Sunday morning and thought I would give it a try. My game improved instantly by 6 shots - shot 90- which should have been sub 85 but had a four blow up holes which were wedge related to touch, not swing. I have never hit the ball this well and my playing partners were in disbelief with my game. Thanks for this - I am thrilled to bits.
Like the video, very clear. I too have been doing exactly that for several years. One day after hitting balls on the driving range which looked like weak push and slice shots, I just said to heck with the target line and concentrated on the swing path and was hitting more solid shots. Sometime I can get a bit carried away with the swing path and hit hooks. But the ball gets much further than a slice.
@kilthebatman - Errm Yes it's EXACTLY how I hit a golf ball. I know what you mean though - it's not a conventional swing; it's called a 'stack and tilt' swing. It works for me and many others.
Wow..your points of tangency are amazing..when I do a practice swing my driver ALWAYS hits the deck at exactly that red point on the slice swing path! and I wrongly assume I must have 'looked-up' or something? - great posting - thanks
@gmonkey808 - You are right. However, this is not a swing that is commonly used by Tour Players. Aaron Baddely and Mike Weir have used the 'stack and tilt' swing.
@jtmcdow - hmm. There must be something that you're not quite doing correctly as the physics of hitting it straight are set in stone. Don't give up though. I still slice a few using this method. Hell - even the pros slice and duff the ball. Try and analyse what it might be: weight staying forward, clubhead square to PATH IT'S taking... there are still a few more things to make the swing work like backswing hand position and keeping the angle from right forearm to club through impact. Good luck
@mrjocarlo1 - you're most welcome. If you want to know more in depth, have a look at the founders' book (The Stack and Tilt Swing: The Definitive Guide to the Swing That Is Remaking Golf by Michael Bennett and Andy Plummer) or their DVD. Now go and really enjoy your golf.
I found this video last summer. It's like you were reading my mail. I never cared about distance. I just wanted to hit the ball straight.
I'd just assume to tee off with a 7 iron to keep the ball in the fairway. This video changed my game and, well, really my life. Golf became fun. I could focus on getting better in other areas..not just worrying about a slice off the tee.
Thanks for the video. You made golf fun for me. I'm watching now for a refresher course. :)
Thanks for your support Maxswine. I'm only too glad to have helped you and the many others really enjoy golf rather than just struggle trying to play. Anyone can hit a ball a fairly long way (now and then). The whole point of golf is to hit the ball where you want it to go. I hope to find time to make some more vids on golf - stay tuned and happy golfing.
Thanks for this video! You described me perfectly in your summary. I've tried twisting the club open/closed, changing the ball placement and everything else, but still managed to slice it anyway. This analysis is fantastic and I can't wait to try it out on the range today.
That's why I made the vid - as it helped me big time. Let me know how you get on in the range, it will make a difference but it isn't a total, trouble-free cure. If you liked this method, have a look at their book and DVD.
This was the video that changed everything for me! Why isn't this principle taught by all golf teachers? I went out and bought the Stack and Tilt vidoe series and within 1 week my ball striking improved at least 50 percent. If only I had seen this posting a few years ago! My first Pepsi Tour event in the Indexed Division will be in January. I practice every day making 50 swings with a weighted club, keeping my weight forward and MOVING FORWARD on the downswing. No more divots behind the ball!!
I couldn't agree more - that's exactly why I made this vid. Understanding the physics behind directing the ball help me big time. Have you bought their book yet? Good luck in January and let me know how you get on. - Tom
OMG.....you added so much difficulty to something that should already be done. the point of tangency, is always after the ball...duh....we all know this. we'll for the dumb people here it's where we make a divot after impact.
if you had a proper forward weight shift in the first place, your theoretical divot would happen every time after impact. so why make it 10x more times complicated for the high handicappers ?
a proper forward weight shift with a proper flat swing plane cures your slice.
This method helped me achieve the forward weight required instantly (because it never goes back).
Of course you are right about forward weight and divot etc that should already be done, but this vid tells you how I managed to achieve that after ten years of trying all sorts of crap and how others in my shoes can succeed too. I want others to enjoy playing the game, not struggle trying to play. That's all.
I just move my right foot back about 5 inches and play a pull shot which has fixed my slice on the drive. But know i can't get away from the shot with my irons and am starting to pull them left. Does work wonders for the driver though
Pulling your foot back like that is going to rob you of distance and consistency. You might end up hitting a lot of PUSH shots, and you are also not able to move your hips and shoulders the way they are supposed to move, robbing you of distance. Do yourself a favor and learn how to drive with your feet parallel to the target line.
Good vid. I've also noticed that shifting my weight to favor the left foot (as a right handed player) helps improve my tee shots. I'll try out the rest of this method at the range
its very simple to have the correst swing path which you illustrate without using the stack and tilt method. also with the longer clubs this method increases the steepness of the downswing which will put MORE spin on the ball so for weekend golfers thei driving might even get worse. Not wise to do this without seeing a coach! also guys like aaron baddeley have now swithced away from stack and tilt!!
There are a bunch of others on tour who use this pattern, upwards of thirty who do and even some that dont call themselves stacked. Yet they are. Aaron yes is out but he went from 143 in the world to 34 at one point after switching. Fredrik and Troy Matteson are the two newest and Troy bombs it. It is by no means a steep way to hit a ball. I can hit driver off the deck doing it.
Tried this technique over the weekend.the key is to make sure your weight is distributed the way the video shows you. More weight on the forward foot. I hit a LOT more fairways. Thanks!!
I only use this with my driver, woods and long irons. My mid and short irons are ok. I might use it if my irons are struggling a bit. However, I probably should adopt it for all of my clubs.
ok, i'm the guy who hit two buckets of driver to try to get this, and couldn't. i actually hurt my back doing so, and couldn't play for two weeks. well, tried it again, and now it works. for you fellow slicers, just have to keep the clubface closed all along the swing path. for those of you who don't understand what that means(like me), when you address the ball, the clubface of the driver is slightly up, turn it so it's slightly down. be sure to aim for the bottom of the ball.
The clubhead isn't at one angle for very long throughout the swing. As we approach the point of impact, our hands are rotating over each other and so the clubhead is to. When we hit the ball, the ball makes contact with the clubhead for quite a while due to it compressing before bouncing off. In this time the clubhead rotates heel-to-toe ever so slightly imparting slight anti-clockwise rotation even if the clubhead is exactly 90° to the path at impact. More angle means more draw.
Oh my God ! It's just amazing how this tip works !!! It should be told immediately in all golf courses! I tried it yesterday being a bit skeptical... and I hit the longest drive I have ever done since I play.. Believe me or not : ALL of my drives were straight and almost all of them landed on the fairway (12/15 on a regular course). No one around me believed that the day before I was Mr Slice! God bless you for this video. It's has improved my game so well... You should be paid for this !-))
They've got a book coming out later this year: The Stack and Tilt Swing: The Definitive Guide to the Swing That Is Remaking Golf by Michael Bennett and Andy Plummer.
this is the most amazing video for curing slices i have ever seen you had all the answers and everything i was looking for thank you so much hope your game is improving everyday
I can only agree. I set up with my club face closed, but my instructor berates me for it. But it works for me!

Back swing. left arm is close to body without touching it.
Down swing. Right arm is close to body without touching the body.
On irons do this and also aim for the bottom front of the golf ball.
If you dont believe me watch the pros carefully.
Hope this helps.

Going to try this. Pretty weird concept, skeptical. But hey, haven't tried it yet, so what can I say?
xxmasterchiefofahlo 8 months ago
Thats right thats how i learned too and if you put your front foot farther up towards the ball
16cameronpower 8 months ago
My driver is the only club I slice. Everything else, including my long irons is a draw. I've tried everything. I draw a 2 iron, but can't hit a driver anywhere but OB right. Why?
lancer525 9 months ago
@lancer525 - well, that was pretty much the case with me until a few years ago. I can't say for sure without seeing your swing, but for it was this: the driver is a lot longer than ALL the clubs and takes longer to reach the impact position. I was turning my hips way too soon and they weren't far enough ahead of the ball at impact, leaving my hands behind, forcing an out to in path and a slice. This swing forces you to keep your weight forward giving you arms time to catch up. Hope this helps.
peterfileproductions 9 months ago
@lancer525 I had the same issue. Try to focus on as much shoulder turn as possible on your back swing with your driver but also with your irons. Keep your arms loose and light. It worked for me. Not only did i gain 20 with the greater turn but after a few weeks practice i found i started to be able to control my shots heaps better. Start your downswing with your lower body. It also helped me to have less lateral hip movement as you dont need to over compensate with arms/hips to try get speed.

Grantvity 9 months ago
@Grantvity - Well, it's difficult to say for sure what might be causing your slice even with this method. But as I said in the video, it's a combo of out-to-in swing path, open clubface and weight distribution that causes a slice. Try practising many times without a ball in slow motion - (like Tai Chi) to train your muscle memory. Make sure your right elbow touches your right waist on the downswing and keep it there as you turn your body and hips (this helps hit an in-to-out path).
peterfileproductions 9 months ago
@Grantvity - have a look at this: youtube.com/watch?v=B4_YepJ3wSs

Interesting, put 60% weight on leading foot and then move forward from there through your swing. Very well presented, I'm going to try this!

@jntragesser - remember to keep you head still throughout the swing and shift your weight forwards using your hips. Good luck.

i have the same banana slice with any driver that I hit.

You really saved my games. forbidden42 11 months ago

2xtrbo 11 months ago
It worked for me. I can hit my driver without slicing it now. I still occasionally push-slice when I forget to do something (slide hips forward), but I've hit some nice draws and mostly straight balls. I've also hit some hooks, which is a good thing for a person who was slicing every ball severely. I also now get some pop-ups here and there. My advice is to tee the ball lower and don't get too wide in your stance (makes it hard to shift the hips).
sonicdeviant 1 year ago
Another way to stop a slice is to roll your right hand grip clockwise (as viewed from your eye point of view) a few degrees. Left hand stays the same. I sliced for forty years before figuring this out. It really works! I like your video - very professional.
WECantThink 1 year ago

I played today and I really hit the ball more consistently straighter! if you struggle with a slice that you just cant seem to fix, i definitely recommend this technique.
thanks!!!!!!

Thanks a lot.The night I found your video, I had watched maybe 20 pro videos on the same subject.Your video was the most useful.I would recommend to people to maybe test out the 60/40 left to right weight distribution you talk about, and then reduce it bit by bit.

katorpas 1 year ago
Thanks. I have had problems on and off with my driver. I can be super long and straight one hole and then horribly right on the next. I tried this on the range, and though it felt a little awkward it definitely improved consistency. I have played 36 holes now, and found that aside from losing a little distance, I am much more accurate from the tee. The distance lost I think is because I can't generate as much club headspeed, but most of those yards were in the woods anyway!

sponkizm 1 year ago
Thanks for the tips. I've been trying to get rid of a driver slice for a long time and last night I tried your recommendations out on the driving range with very good results. The two key changes that I made were more weight on my left foot than my right foot and hands forward the ball, both while addressing the ball. I also made sure that my club head did not break the plane of my swing. Hard to believe that these small changes can make such a big difference. Thanks again.
samorye01 1 year ago
@samorye01
I'm very pleased it helped you. It's all about the physics of what's happening really. Club hits ball - how club hits ball - how to make it hit ball correctly!!
Good luck.
peterfileproductions 1 year ago
so does this mean u have to put the ball back more?
jamez566 1 year ago
@jamez566
No. It means you still play the ball from the conventional position of in line with the left heel for the driver and gradually further back towards the centre for irons. It's your centre of balance that favours the left side more (making it seem like the ball should go back). Good luck.
peterfileproductions 1 year ago
@peterfileproductions ok thanks but you still have to transfer your weight to your left side right?
jamez566 1 year ago
@jamez566
The main difference is that with this swing you NEVER transfer your weight back to your right foot on the backswing. It stays on the left! Instead on the backswing, you straighten your right leg keeping you head dead still too.
peterfileproductions 1 year ago
@peterfileproductions thanks
jamez566 1 year ago
I always bring it back really inside. But end up hitting a pull or slice still? because i swing accross my body. any ideas?
DJMoonsand 1 year ago
For the stack and tilt swing, your backswing needs to be quite shallow and flat (not steep and vertical). Aim to have your hands level with your right shoulder on the top of the swing and behind you a bit. Bring them through so that your right upper arm and right elbow stick to your ribcage and avoid separating them until after impact. Push your hips far out to the left while keeping your head still. practise in slo mo and then speed up gradually. See how you get on.
peterfileproductions 1 year ago
This video really did help my drive. I typically use my 3I hybrid off the tee box because i fear my horrible slice with my driver. Last week i used the info from this video at the course without even practicing. I hit 6 drives in the fairway, 6 drives slightly off the fairway (in bounds and still playable), and 2 drives out of bounds. Not to mention the added 20-40 yds I gained by not slicing. I like those #'s for trying it for the 1st time. Thanks for the help!

I have been suffering from slice for years too and tried many different advises but this one gets close to what I have figured out.
OnlyTruthCounts 1 year ago
Like the video, very clear. I too have been doing exactly that for several years. One day after hitting balls on the driving range which looked like weak push and slice shots, I just said to heck with the target line and concentrated on the swing path and was hitting more solid shots. Sometime I can get a bit carried away with the swing path and hit hooks. But the ball gets much further than a slice.

kilthebatman 1 year ago
@kilthebatman - Errm Yes it's EXACTLY how I hit a golf ball. I know what you mean though - it's not a conventional swing; it's called a 'stack and tilt' swing. It works for me and many others.
peterfileproductions 1 year ago
Wow..your points of tangency are amazing..when I do a practice swing my driver ALWAYS hits the deck at exactly that red point on the slice swing path! and I wrongly assume I must have 'looked-up' or something? - great posting - thanks
MrChubbleyWarner 1 year ago
Im not sure this is right.
When a tour players swing is slowed down (swing vision) the club face is square at the target.
Swing path is right and hitting ball before apex sound right but i dont think you come in at the ball with an open club face.
gmonkey808 1 year ago
@gmonkey808 - You are right. However, this is not a swing that is commonly used by Tour Players. Aaron Baddely and Mike Weir have used the 'stack and tilt' swing.

jtmcdow 1 year ago
@jtmcdow - hmm. There must be something that you're not quite doing correctly as the physics of hitting it straight are set in stone. Don't give up though. I still slice a few using this method. Hell - even the pros slice and duff the ball. Try and analyse what it might be: weight staying forward, clubhead square to PATH IT'S taking... there are still a few more things to make the swing work like backswing hand position and keeping the angle from right forearm to club through impact. Good luck

No more divots behind the ball!!

I just move my right foot back about 5 inches and play a pull shot which has fixed my slice on the drive. But know i can't get away from the shot with my irons and am starting to pull them left. Does work wonders for the driver though
skubbies 2 years ago
Pulling your foot back like that is going to rob you of distance and consistency. You might end up hitting a lot of PUSH shots, and you are also not able to move your hips and shoulders the way they are supposed to move, robbing you of distance. Do yourself a favor and learn how to drive with your feet parallel to the target line.

its very simple to have the correst swing path which you illustrate without using the stack and tilt method. also with the longer clubs this method increases the steepness of the downswing which will put MORE spin on the ball so for weekend golfers thei driving might even get worse. Not wise to do this without seeing a coach! also guys like aaron baddeley have now swithced away from stack and tilt!!
hufwbuwncouwvbwruvbr 2 years ago
There are a bunch of others on tour who use this pattern, upwards of thirty who do and even some that dont call themselves stacked. Yet they are. Aaron yes is out but he went from 143 in the world to 34 at one point after switching. Fredrik and Troy Matteson are the two newest and Troy bombs it. It is by no means a steep way to hit a ball. I can hit driver off the deck doing it.

The ball travels straight. Be sure to take an even slow full back swing--it helps.

irondragon2 2 years ago
ok, i'm the guy who hit two buckets of driver to try to get this, and couldn't. i actually hurt my back doing so, and couldn't play for two weeks. well, tried it again, and now it works. for you fellow slicers, just have to keep the clubface closed all along the swing path. for those of you who don't understand what that means(like me), when you address the ball, the clubface of the driver is slightly up, turn it so it's slightly down. be sure to aim for the bottom of the ball.
irondragon2 2 years ago
ps : Could you explain the anti clockwise spin effect.. if it's not too demanding..
MrDeluc2009 2 years ago
The clubhead isn't at one angle for very long throughout the swing. As we approach the point of impact, our hands are rotating over each other and so the clubhead is to. When we hit the ball, the ball makes contact with the clubhead for quite a while due to it compressing before bouncing off. In this time the clubhead rotates heel-to-toe ever so slightly imparting slight anti-clockwise rotation even if the clubhead is exactly 90° to the path at impact. More angle means more draw.
peterfileproductions 2 years ago
