  • little rat county britain destroyed wealth of almost all eastern countries.

  • we gave you railways, your political system the english language etc,,you wanted independence in 1947,and you got it,cant blame us afterwards, when it all went pear shaped

  • @broadband01 I really admire the British rule over India, for many reasons. But you see, things were changed. Individuals, from all sides, made the things worse that led to Independence: had had to be happened. And slavery, that too to outsiders, seldom lasts long. But, slavery to unjust rulers from same race is worse thn to those who are at least just. British brought justice and introduced modernization to India, with exceptions.

English language, I won`t take it as a gift though.

  • If we in India are to create s strong Nation. We need Tolerance this will have to be the , foundation of our Nation.

Great Empires from the Beginning of Humanities history. Advoate Tolerence, beliefs, as the foundation of these massive, prosperous Empires.

Look at America today, It has aplogized for its inhumane treatment of the Blacks are working to integrate people of different racial bakgrounds. We in India cannot even integrate our own brother, with merely a different belief !

  • I hate the Hindus that talk rubbish, degrade the Muslims.

Haven't we leant anything from this partition. The Muslims are India's Greatest Asset !

    I say this as a Hindu !

  • @workhardt2 youi still dont want to learn .. u keep forgetting calcutta mascares?

u want to close eyes what Muslims are doing all over world.

  • Religion is a disgrace in the human civilization. Why is it so hard for people to realize that religion causes nothing but hatred, superstitious, and destruction. The world will be a better place if religion never existed.

  • @asif6152000

We in the Subcontinent, have given a hard punch to ourselves with this religious fights. Now the world is laughing at us !

  • its simple britian has fucked the world

  • The poverty that we see in India today was caused by the British Empire.

  • what britain and the east india company did in 300 years is the greatest crime ever..i am british..it is the worst horror comitted

  • @cfdcolin1979 I think 'Greatest Crime Ever' is a bit of an exageration; At the very least the UK accepted independance whereas France, Spain and the Netherlands all fought bloody wars to try and cling onto their Asian colonies (Indochina, the Philippines and Indonesia resp).

Also unlike the above stated comparators, both India and Pakistan (and now Bangladesh too) have voluntarily sought to retain ties to Britain though language, sport and commonwealth membership. There's no 'bad blood' here.

  • partition was good for india thank you jinnah for separating those scumbag muslims, jinnah knew pakistan would be shit so asked his daughter to be in india instead,we r so happy being separatefrom these basterds, now take ur motherfucking quran and keep reciting its ridiculous stupid verses all day hahaha, religion destroys everthing and pakistan is proof of dat, while india adopted secularism pakistan is founded on a bullshit man made book written by bronze age arab cavemen

  • @thescorpionking2020 Yea I agree. Religion destroys everything.

  • who made the background music, its ace?

  • Interesting documentary! For the X or Y gen, it is hard for them to know much about reason for this division. One stayed as a "secular" country and the other became an "Islamic" country. If India still remains as a secular country, what was the reason for this partition The Muslims could still have stayed here like the large number stayed! Please explain!

  • I accept partition only for the practical reason that it's enormous, would've happened eventually just like USSR, what I don't subscribe to is division based on religion. It's created a rift that cannot be changed. But I have strong faith that we in the subcontinent are much smarter than any other country affected by division. We can overcome differences only if it's not based on romantic fabrications of race and religion. We are connected by culture and thought

  • India did get one good thing from the British 'The Map of India' .

What happened was our mistakes. There are few families who control the total economy of Pakistan and most of them have posh villas in England and most of their black money in Swiss banks , Same is with India. They are the ones who decided the fate during partition for the sake of power. West should close all the Swiss banks and return the money back to countries it belongs. Our politicians have looted us more then anyone else.

  • i beieve that in general it was not the partition that ruined punjab, people living in one house divide the place draw boundaries or seperate for some reason, it was and still is the ideology of a specific class who used partition for there benefits, Quaid didnt wanted such a Pakistan, its that ruling class which still exists and is ruining the country, and it exists in both Pak and India. Pakistan never became an islamic state, the name islamization was used by people to exploit the land,

  • The only region which was partitioned in 1947 was Punjab. Punjab was partitioned between Pakistan and India.

India is a country created in 1947.

  • weak and poor people have only one end tht is 1947..... this is wht we deserve...who cant rule them self have no right even to live on this earth....this is good lesson for indo sub continent never be rule by other...but still pakistan didnt understand this lesson and asking US to rule them may be behind the curtain..soon they will have more partition be carefull my frids....

  • I may not be indian...... or hindu or Sikh or Muslim, but i know damn well that Gandhi NEVER wanted this to happen yet it did because the British fucked up on their part and so did Jinnah.....may he burn in hell. I've watched ganhdi recently and i got into thinking about he effects of the Partition....and the British never even asked the people at all.....they just wanted to get the fuck outta there...so that might pretty much explain why it happened and it pretty much killed gandhi

  • you know even my grandfather said it was jinnah who started the violence by calling for direct action- the muslim league did organise attacks and it started in rawalpindi, after this the hindus & sikhs retaliated and then all three communities were responsible for the madness

  • my family are pakistani punjabi and in fact before partition lahore city was majority hindu/sikh but including areas around lahore city, it was muslim majority, around 60%. after partition a few hundred hindu/sikhs left. my grandfather says lahore was the worst effected city,he saw many of his skih/hindu neighbours slaughtered and he was helpless to do anything, what he saw affected him to his recent death

  • if only curzon lived for another 60 years and remained viceroy...

  • The division of India is a British vendetta. Muslims and Hindus used to live in harmony. Look at Libya today, at risk of being divided, too. The Libyans have not asked to be divided but the British will cut them apart by creating a wedge between two sects of people who used to live harmoniously. It is A LOT easier to loot people who are busy fighting each other.

  • I think Partition was good for India and Hindus...its a myth that muslims gained from Partition, Hindus gained most from partition...though partition was the biggest blunder for Sikhs, no doubt.

  • reunification Bengal!!!!!!!!!

  • what was wrong?? hindus and muslims lived fine under british, but could not do so independently?? Damn it is all political, so Jinnah gets PM and britishers SCREW india

  • fucking brits... they made so much trouble in the world. They made the Indians hate them, the Irish, the Africans etc.

  • 1 day when india wud bcm muslim majority country we cn unite the 4 countries india pakistan bangladesh afghanistan and name it islamic empire of pakistan

  • @aizadwarraich Pakistan is in an unstable state and there appears to be

no leader who can show Pakistan a way out. Too many

Pakistanis have been taught that they exist only for

Islam and for jihad and these people are now caught

between the twin pincers of the global war on terror

being conducted by many nations on the one hand, and by

the rich and corrupt Pakistani rulers on the other. The

long term outlook for Pakistan does not appear

    encouraging.

  • partition was good for india. india would be an islamic state now if it wasn't for the partition. look at lebanon. it used to be majority christian. now it's a safe harbour for hezbollah. that should serve as a warning to any nation with a high population of muslims.

  • WHEEL OF HISTORY...WHETHER THIS IS 1974 OR 2010..SPECIALLY IN KARACHI.

  • A historic recapture ! Excellent attempt.

  • what illiterate language r these people speaking ??

  • A lot is owed to the Indus Valley Civilization a.k.a The Sindhu-Saraswati civilization...They have left an indelible impact on modern society in terms of mathematics, sciences, religion and government... The pre-christian greeks and the romans are merely offshoots of what was once a civilization that overshadowed Egypt and Mesopotamia in sheer size...Climate change forced migration towards the european steppes westwards and to modern day Bali eastwards...

  • when ever u r KashifHKhan if u pakistani, Indian, american i'm ur fan u making a sensible videos nd peaceful videos. thanks for making these videos

  • lets get united and make India Greatest nation on earth again :)

  • partition of india was a good thing, except the bloodshed.

partition saved india from jihadis and all traitors. if partition would have not happened that time, india would have broken into more countries later.

  • british are the BIGGEST THIEVES to exist on this planet.

  • blame that monkey man Mahatma Gandhi !!

  • I don't really care what happened....i'm just happy i've got Pakistan to call Home.

  • well it wont be home for long pakistan is finished...that was the plan of the british...the same way this war in the middle east was planned form the 60s...if u dont care what happened i dont know wether to laugh or cry

  • islam is the second most popular religion in india. sikhs r the minority

  • @cavegirl1985 dont worry darling we will come back..let us settle down a bit... we existed till kandhar and we will come and hit ur makka and madina two unholiest places in the world

  • i wish the british NEVER left.

india is the poorest country in the world and a country that will most likely never develop.

  • Bro the places the British held in India the longest are the POOREST! They drained the resoruces for their own greed. And know they left us with two nations that hate each other.

  • Actually if you look back at history it was not partition. India is composed of colose to 500 big and small countries which British occupied one at a time and later became India.

  • 500 not even close, maybe like 10-20,but they all hold a common culture. China,Persia,Japan, etc, etc, etc we all had times when they were not unified.

  • if muslims were not educated wat is the falut of hindus in that.same thing is happeng in pakistan right now even also muslims are not as educated as hindus.

  • wat makes u think muslims were not educated the founder of pakistan was barrister in london ... and a small country of 4 provinces it has achived sumthing .. u r not aware of.. so my friend with out n e solid references dont say muslims were not educated ... hindus were hypocrits ghandi came n boycotted western civilisation, muslims supported ghandi but in background hindus were sent abroad for higher education

  • "the founder of pakistan was barrister in london"

So were Gandhi, Motilal Nehru, and Jawaharlal Nehru. Being a lawyer or a civil service man was the profession of the wealthy in those days. During WW1, Turkey (the center of the Muslim world) had a literacy rate of a whopping 8%. Care to comment on that? Also, how many Nobel laureates do 1 billion+ Muslims in the world have? My point exactly.

"in background hindus were sent abroad for higher education "

And this was Gandhi's doing? Bwahahaha!

  • the thing is that other religious communities can live with muslims but muslims cant live with other communities.thats why we see muslim ghettos not even in india but in east london, ireland bronx and allover the world.today every country is troubled by islamic jehadi terrorism. why we see only muslim terrorist everywhere?all muslim seek is absolute power thats why partitioned happened and happened for good.

  • History was cruel on pakistan and india. There was no need to partition a country on religion. I dream india and pakistan would be one country in future. At least we should have a dream even if its not going to be reality

  • 03:03.

The map showing Muslim majority areas - is wrong.

  • @niladrisil1 Its rite .......Thats da real Pakistan we shud get buh if u listen carefully indian made british to have more part of Punjab.......Many Muslimz moved wen MAP came out...

  • @niladrisil1 no its true india r fck tards who dunt noe shit

  • Todays the anniversery of the berlin wall What about east and west punjab you fuckn european ass holes fuckn ruined our culture and now ur making the european union FUckn white inferior kutha REUNIFICATION OF PUNJAB!

  • sahi kiya yaar, im from east punjab, punjab was a nation in itself, shed into pieces, i think it was punjabis who lost the most out of it.

  • agr ye partision na hotha tu itni jaane zaya na hothi qauid in sub ka zamidar hai

  • A thoroughly researched and even-handed handling of the events leading to Partition. The re-enactments too are very well taken. Many thanks for uploading it

  • 100 yrs british were there, not 200yrs, india's gdp was 24%o f world's share prior to uk arrival, as was China's - 3% in 1950, train systems built to loot the country from all corners fu**inga ssholes

  • finally someone who spoke the truth, here is another interesting fact: the provinces/states of india which were longest under the british are the most poverty stricken today like bihar and bengal (w.bengal & bangladesh)

  • @BunnyBambiBambi our own politicans have looted more then british.atleast they built smthing which we still use

  • Part 7: In fact this underrepresentation problem has taken an eternal character whereever they are in minority. So to blame Hindus for lack of jobs would be giving too much credit to the ruled hindus. Mind you Hindus too were in same boat British exploited them all but Hindus made lemonade out of lemon thakns to their flexibility

  • Part 6: Anyway Hindus otoh were kind of reltaiively aloof about change of guard for them it was continuation of foreign rule with different mast-head. One welcome change was that they now were not subjected to religious persecution like Islamic rulers era ( with exception of Akbar almost all of the rulers persecuted hindus at certain level).

  • Part 5: Second reason was muslims considered theselves royalty which were deposed by british and hence had certain hatred for them and hence receded in the cocoon. Sir Syead Ahmed Khan addresses this lac of interset of muslim for modern english education.

  • Part4: Regarding under representation of muslims in official jobs. Now this was a fact and reason were many fold. First muslims stuck to the urdu/persian language and were not ready embrace English the official language in the era of British rule. Hindus as usual showed their flexibility and took to English education.

  • i disagree. Muslims did stick to urdu/persian because of 2 reasons: afghan&mughal rule and religion (the quran is in arabic, urdu & persian being closely related to arabic) but bengali muslims did not stick to urdu or persian rather bengali. Hinduism is very very diverse, all hindus dont learn sanskrit (the language of the vedas) e.g. tamil hindus learn tamil not sanskrit to read thier religious texts. Also NW india was conquered much later so english was introduced late as well.

  • "tamil hindus learn tamil not sanskrit to read thier religious texts."

Depends on what Tamil Hindus you talk of. Tamil Brahmin texts are the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, etc., which are in Sanskrit, but are very often TRANSLITERATED into Tamil. However, many Tamil Brahmins can read the Devnagari script. Sanskrit in schools in Tamil Nadu is taught using the Devnagari script and not the Tamil script.

  • Part3: For instance my mother makes me cook non-veg iten outside the house and I must drink and eat in designated dish and glasses the day I decide to cook meat. One might make a case my mother hates me but that would be anything but truth.

Early segregation were forced by islamic rulers and aided by chasm in eating habit

  • Part 2: Then there is natural segregation due to the eating habit. One section revers cows another section loves to eat cow-meat. Forget cow-meat majority of Hindus are vegetarian and avoid eating any kind of meat and segregation in the family of veg and non-veg members is common place. .

  • Part 1: divison amongst Hindu muslims goes a long way back. I have had opportunity to read the directives of islamic rulers to the effect of segregation of muslims and non-muslim dwellings. Kafir are impure that catchphrase even today is quite popular. Just watch the comedy shows of Umar Sharif this phrase is recurrent even today.

  • What irks me is that a person who openly gave call of direct action in Kolkata who openly declared in that band " I will get India divided or India destroyed never gets the blame of Koplkata massacre which was the direct result of his direct action call... Yes ladies and gentleman that was Jinnah Saheb.. How could any sensible person instigate communal riot frenzy openly like this..

  • It was a men made Holocaust the like of which is hard to find anywhere in the world.May God save the mankind from such disasters. Thank you kashif for uploading this video.

  • thanksw brother kasif, we sikhs love all our punjabi brothern wjkkhalsa wjkfateh

  • It is interesting to see a documentary by BBC on India partition. Ever one knows the fact that this situation was created by British government so that they can come back one day when sun was bright on their side. And also to check the progress of India by having continued fighting in the region to stop progress in that region.

  • thx for posting kashif bhai...i was looking for this documentary since a long time....i dont think it has been aired in india as of now

    happy ramzan

  • Shaan,

Have you heard of something called mob-frenzy and rage fueled by rational or irrational fears, local leaders, rumors etc. The fire consumed both the communities and killed a lot of innocents.

Gandhiji tried to stop the partition and after accepting the inevitable, tried to do the right thing (proportion money) - not exactly "appeasing muslims". As for holy lands, which ever land portion goes, there would be some or the other "holyness" associated. Maybe you should brush up on history.

  • PART 5:

Finally, I agree with one of the interviewers that Lahore has suffered tremendously as a result of Partition. Of course, I never witnessed his pre-Partition cosmopolitan, liberal, and progressive Lahore. But I have seen the decline of the city from mid-70s onwards due to Islamization. ("Islamization" is a direct consequence of Partition; it is a means to give people a new identity). In fact, the same can be said of Pak in general; Islamization is slowly but surely devouring it.

    -Kashif

  • @KashifHKhan do you subscribe to the view that Punjab at least should not have been divided?

  • @bluepraetorian I reject Partition as I believe that South Asian Muslims do NOT constitute a separate nation. They subscribe to a different faith from Hindu majority, but in terms of their origins, ethnicity, culture, and language their makeup is "Indian". The creation of Bangladesh proves falsehood of "Two-Nation" theory while Pakistan's failed state status shows futility of rejecting one's origins.

If India were to be partitioned, it was not possible to save Punjab on account of its size.

  • @KashifHKhan I wish we could somehow be one India again, before Pakistan destroyed Islam, Peace, and the true worship of God.

  • @KashifHKhan Britain is now being Islamized.

  • PART 4:

It may sound naive, I think a mechanism should have been instituted to allow those who wanted to stay behind in Punjab to be able to do so. I am an ethnic Punjabi from my father's side as well as a native of Lahore. My father - who witnessed Partition as a college student in Lahore and hails from a village in West Punjab - also told me that Partition was brutally enforced by local mobs. The best a neighbor could do was to help "other" community member escape to a refugee camp.

    -Kashif

  • @KashifHKhan Gushwant Singh describes this Lahore that you mention in his book with the same name.

  • PART 3:

The suffering of women during the Partition is particularly deplorable. It is heart wrenching to hear tales of "honor killings" where fathers murdered their own daughters to prevent them from being "dishonored". Equally horrific are the instances of mass rapes of women by members of the "other" community. Finally, given a mother's natural love for her children, who would not be moved by decision of some of them to abandon infants during long march to other side of the border?

    -Kashif

  • PART 2:

As Partition occurred on British watch, I believe it was their responsibility to ensure safety of people during expected migration. It is shocking that Mountbatten actually started returning British troops to the UK upon his arrival, did not utilize the Indian Army (under British command) to guarantee law and order, precipitated chaos by moving forward the date of Partition by one year, and invited additional killings by keeping the fate of Lahore a secret till last minute.

    -Kashif

  • PART 1:

What can I say about Partition that has not already been said? It is the seminal event of the history of the Subcontinent as well as one of the defining moments of the 20th century. Still, I would like to make four observations: (a) the utter lack of preparation for mass migration; (b) the horrific treatment meted out to women; (c) the enforcement of Partition in Punjab against people's will; and (d) the decline of Lahore - and Pakistan in general - as a result of Partition.

    -Kashif

  • Kashif Bhai your concern are well intentioned but if you weigh in the practicality of your suggestiosn for safeguarding each other's interest in the backdrop of acrimonious partition then you will find it very far-fetched. I just shudder to think the plight of women given the tribal mentality we have in subcontinent where first thing that comes in mind while trying to offend others is to attack their women-folk.
