I remember back in the late 80's we used to hike up that trail every weekend just to kickback and have ourselves some cold ones at the top. It used to be free! The tunnel b4 the 100 steps used to be pitch black going up too. Its $5 if you drive your car in but its $1 per person if you walk in. Hint: u don't have 2 go up the 100 steps. U can go around the other way now. Great video by the way!
We went there on 11-30-2010 and they told us it was closed due to fricken erosion! What a bummer! we got ready for nothing! and the nerve to charge locals for parking and a entrance fee, dammit we live here for God's sake!

Wow! Diamond Head has changed since I was a keiki! Back in '74, my big brother and I climbed straight up the crater wall toward the summit, then turned SE along the rim, coming down those long stairs. Had the place to ourselves, too; no crowds of folks. Looks like they've restored the emplacements, too. Gonna have to take the missus up there, now (the safe way; I'm not 11 anymore) when we get back to the islands. Mahalo for posting! =^[.]^=
