Bought a PS3 phat which has bc used from ebay and ylod on me 3 days after getting it. Sent it of to someone who said they could fix it. Got it back and it worked for a couple of weeks and ylod again and noticed it had missing screws and the case not put together properly. I guess they did a bad reflow on it, tried to contact them as was not happy and could never contact them. Do you except PS3`s in kinda bad conditions as I really would like it fixed due to being able to play PS2 games on it
@yelever74 Yes I would accept your PS3 sounds like you need a reball bad because the reflows are not lasting, when do you want to send it in for the reball repair?
@FixMyGPU Not sure as moving in 2 weeks but would like to get it fixed. I`m kinda worried as like I said half the screws are missing and checked it today and the case isn`t put back together and wouldn`t want you to think I`m sending you a piece of junk. Really not happy with the job that was not done on it before but can`t contact them anymore. All the parts are there except screws.
@yelever74 well when you are ready just visit my website and purchase the repair and if I can get it fixed for you I will replace the missing screws for you. Thanks
you seem like you take your time. Overall seem like a good fixer. I wish I could've sent my ps3 for you to reballed. I sent to this dude in New York. Well my PS3 died 6 months without barely playing it. I just learn how to reflow and built my own computer.
Anyhow I open up the ps3 that was supposed to be reballed. Holy cow, that dude did the worst thermal pasting job I've ever seen. Looks like he just threw it on there and too much. lol How long does it take you to reballed?
@jetgeo4 well the repair takes about 4 hours, because I do take my time. The fan mode takes about an hour, maybe less. I usually get it back to you within a week. So are you getting the YLOD again?
@FixMyGPU no I fixed my own ps3 now, I just do refow but I wanna learn how to do reball, if I do need reball in the future I would be sure to use you :)
Very nice set of videos. I do like your process and the patients that you possess. I hope to be sending you my ps3 (phat) for repair, first have to talk to the financial adviser (wife).
@wrxwrx21 Sorry, but if you damage a pad, you're pretty much screwed. But not all pads are important. Some are just ground pads. You can take a multimeter with it in the continuity mode and touch the damage pad to one lead and the other lead to some of the other pads. If it rings, then its probably just a ground pad. But if the pad has a trace coming to it, then it's probably a important pad. You can always google it and see what you come up with, but it's a pretty grey area.
@FixMyGPU thanks for that ive just spent the last hour on google tring to find gpu pinout but cant find anything dont surpose you know where i can find one? thanks
The corners are the somewhat tricky ones. I've lined them up and want to make sure I'm doing it right. So, if I line the dots up with the corners......what should I be looking for under the chip when I do this? Thanks.
@BlkApache If you have the corners lined up then it should be fine. I like to shine a flash light under the chip and try to see if the outside balls are on top of the pads, I usually only do this on one side. When you are heating it up and the temp gets close to 180 C I try to keep an eye on the outside balls closest to me so I can see when they have all liquefied, then I give it a couple more seconds.
I have the YLOD on my ps3. I've cleaned it and I've heated it with a hair dryer. The heating worked, but only for a day or two. I was wondering what were the costs to do this repair? The CPU and GPU still have a moderate amount of thermal paste that has melted and dried. Price is a big issue, and I was wondering if it was just easier to get a new one.
Hello, if I just buy a replacement RSX Chip instead, can I get the RSX chip off the board with a heat gun or will I need to use a reball machine? And how do I get it on? Do I still use the heat gun? Thanks!
@bigphillip25 You don't want to use a heat gun for this. Trust me. I first started last summer to fix these with the heat gun trick...problem is, it worked for about a week then died again....plus if you don't the motherboard on the PS3 support it WILL WARP and you don't want that to happen. Now, I use a reball machine and a PS3 support board and now they last. Belive me, I will not be going back to the heat gun trick at all.
