I was at the same K's house in October '08 and can thoroughly recommend it (and the Hiroshima one). We got the train from Tokyo (and spent about 30 mins trying to work out the timetable/platforms) via Otsuki to Kawaguchiko as we had a 1 week JR Rail Pass.
Looks like you had as much fun as us, hoping to get back this year.
