You're wrong and you don't understand history.  The United States Senators were originally elected directly by the state congresses. The entire reason for the United States Senate was so that the state's had a voice in the national government. The 17th Amendment was passed and now Senators are elected by the citizens of the state instead of the state legislatures. The passing of that Amendment was simply one more way to destroy state's rights.
