I have owned the iPad 2 for a few months now and it always runs at the same speed no matter how much I use it. I bet the Xoom and other pc based tablets also suffer from lag. And r probably prone to viruses and crashing. And you can't fault iTunes. iPad is a proven tech and should not be felled by over complication of its system. Simple and smart. End of.

Since iOS5 i don't think an android tablet comes close. Apps on all iOS device are flawless. The music player on an iOS device wins in popularity dating back to when the first iPod Classic was released why cause they kept the same look. Android is always trying to compete with apple music player but can't. Specs wise should be embarrassing because the XOOM beats iPad in every category yet graphics and lag are the exact same in most cases.Widgets take up battery life along with live wallpaper.
I am getting an ipad 2 for xmas and I can't wait! So glad this was reviewed with a white ipad as it's the one I've chosen. It looks super sleek :)
The Xoom looks like a nice piece of kit too. Definitely NOT lacking anything. I like the look of the ipad better though. It really is personal preference, IMO.
The funny thing about this review is that you predicted half the stuff on iOS 5. The notification center and not plugging it in to a computer. It is like they took your suggestions and fixed the iOS.
The iPad has such things called shortcut apps, where if I want to make CNN website an app I just make an app. I don't have to pull up the browser. Widgets were taken from the concept of shortcut apps.
1:35-2:00 this may only be on iPod Touches and iPhones, but when you're on a website on ur ios device, you'll see a row of buttons at the bottom of the screen, one of them being a plus sign. Tap this button when you're on the site, and your ios device will make an "app" that takes you directly to the site. Just in case you didn't know.

I appreciate your review because it is the closest effort at an unbiased comparison that i have seen on the internet. your comparisons are dead on accurate, but i would go a step farther and place both units in separate categories...The Xoom is clearly designed for the more sophisticated user, some would even venture to call it an enterprise level product while the Ipad2 is clearly only a consumer product.

@chonaV Garage band is the only cool app apple has that android doesnt. iMovie on the ipad is useless, especially if you only get the 16gb version, which most people get. Who is going to take/edit HD video with only 16gb's? Less than that if you have lots of apps, music, pictures etc. Android has all the quality most popular apps. @YourLoveLetter Imovie is a great app that no app on the android app store can match. Apps come out on the apple app store first before it comes out on the android app store, like netflix for instance. Itunes is still the biggest online music store. Bigger than amazon. Amazon is not the only implementing cloud services. The ip5 and ipad3 will have cloud services as one of its major services. Android is just catching up and copying ios.

You should take pictures with each camera and compare them. Also discuss the screen, the iPad 2 screen looks much more vibrant than the Xoom's. I am also interested in the sound quality of the speakers for each tablet so I would like to see a comparison of them playing songs at mid volume and give your comments on which sounds clearer/crisper, and we can also make our own judgments from the video. All in all, great work!

i know the xoom seems better on paper and i know there are things i hate about apple but it is the sheer volume of apps at this time that i think will be the deciding factor maybe in 6 months. i sell it and head in to the android zone.

Actually there is a google app on ipad that does the exact same voice search on the web and includes google goggles. Basically if you want a laptop experience then you should buy a laptop or a netbook their both cheaper anyway. these things are quick fix toys and dependent on APPS! which Android lacks and always will because devs have openly said they don't want to deal with the fragmentation headaches and Android users expecting everything to be free to them.
iOS, so whats the different between the Ipod touch? well if the size really that matter than you have to think about the function. what makes Google made Honycomb, because they're realize that Tablet is different with phone.
I really feel the Ipad 2 deserved a point for better apps even though google has some very nice apps for android but so does apple for ipad2. So if you judge the rest of the apps I think apple deserves a point here.
As for the widgets I feel thats more of a personal preference (just like the auto changing background on android). I have windows and os x with widgets and gadgets but I don't find myself using them. Other than that I feel your review is one of the most fair and am awaiting part 4.

I think this video can act as a kind reminder that Apple needs to step their game up. They seriously need to make a UI revamp for iPads and make it distinguishable from other iOS. I gotta agree that the notification system in iOS is a big flop. However, iOS is also probably one of the most stable OS out there. Furthermore, it is also safe to say that Apple has the most developer support since they really take good care of their developers.

I think your video is good...but you should've wait a little bit to learn more about iOS, i'm not saying is perfect but you're missing something about bookmarks, for example. If you want to bookmark a webpage you can also send it to the home screen, like an app icon, and you can access from there without having to go to safari. Also iOS doesn't only show you 6 of your last apps u used, if you flip through right you can see your other apps running,etc.

Once again, you're being mostly fair, but you left out that by swiping left from the home screen, you can get Apple's own voice commands. They are limited to facetime, calls, playing music. And I agree that it's not as integrated, but you don't even mention it. Not to mention google's own voice search app that you have installed.
Unless Honeycomb can use voice to type in the default mail app or use voice in text msg, I think that the voice services you can use on both suck.
After watching part 1, I just thought you were one of the many people not able to determine what makes a good product, what matters in a comparison of two products. After watching this, it's clear you're simply biased.

I'm surprised the picture quality wasn't even mentioned. This was the first thing I noticed... The iPad is noticeably better, although you can't really tell from this video.
As an Android user and a former iPhone user, I can state the things that Apple does better. I can say I wish Android felt as smooth and shiny as iOS and that it had as many quality apps as the the AppStore.
The problem with Apple followers is that they'll say "who needs widgets? who needs more than one button? there's nothing wrong with the iOS notification system and why would I want to set up my device in any other way than what Apple says is right for me?"
@leonpeeon I agree you 100%. I have to say that though Honeycomb is much polished OS than older versions still it has some way to get there but I am sure it is going to be a great OS in future. Like you I wish it was extremely smooth and shiny as iOS or even windows 7(mobile)
@leonpeeon If Google decided to strip down Honeycomb so is functionality was restricted to only what IOS does then it would run 10x as smooth and feel 100x as shiny as IOS...IOS is still just a cell phone OS...It should never be compared to Honeycomb......IOS is a strip down minimalist OS that requires no real resources to run and so it runs effortlessly on dual core processors....but i do see your point...

Apple is great and i have an iPod Touch, and I might be getting the Xoom or some Android Tablet (iPad is too expensive), but at least you can see, neither am I a jerk to anything other than Apple.
I feel that Android and THERE ARE others out there are not inferior to Apple. They're all really good.

Since iOS5 i don't think an android tablet comes close. Apps on all iOS device are flawless. The music player on an iOS device wins in popularity dating back to when the first iPod Classic was released why cause they kept the same look. Android is always trying to compete with apple music player but can't. Specs wise should be embarrassing because the XOOM beats iPad in every category yet graphics and lag are the exact same in most cases.Widgets take up battery life along with live wallpaper.

The iPad has such things called shortcut apps, where if I want to make CNN website an app I just make an app. I don't have to pull up the browser. Widgets were taken from the concept of shortcut apps.

1:35-2:00 this may only be on iPod Touches and iPhones, but when you're on a website on ur ios device, you'll see a row of buttons at the bottom of the screen, one of them being a plus sign. Tap this button when you're on the site, and your ios device will make an "app" that takes you directly to the site. Just in case you didn't know.

I appreciate your review because it is the closest effort at an unbiased comparison that i have seen on the internet. your comparisons are dead on accurate, but i would go a step farther and place both units in separate categories...The Xoom is clearly designed for the more sophisticated user, some would even venture to call it an enterprise level product while the Ipad2 is clearly only a consumer product.

You should take pictures with each camera and compare them. Also discuss the screen, the iPad 2 screen looks much more vibrant than the Xoom's. I am also interested in the sound quality of the speakers for each tablet so I would like to see a comparison of them playing songs at mid volume and give your comments on which sounds clearer/crisper, and we can also make our own judgments from the video. All in all, great work!

Actually there is a google app on ipad that does the exact same voice search on the web and includes google goggles. Basically if you want a laptop experience then you should buy a laptop or a netbook their both cheaper anyway. these things are quick fix toys and dependent on APPS! which Android lacks and always will because devs have openly said they don't want to deal with the fragmentation headaches and Android users expecting everything to be free to them.

I really feel the Ipad 2 deserved a point for better apps even though google has some very nice apps for android but so does apple for ipad2. So if you judge the rest of the apps I think apple deserves a point here.
As for the widgets I feel thats more of a personal preference (just like the auto changing background on android). I have windows and os x with widgets and gadgets but I don't find myself using them. Other than that I feel your review is one of the most fair and am awaiting part 4.

I think this video can act as a kind reminder that Apple needs to step their game up. They seriously need to make a UI revamp for iPads and make it distinguishable from other iOS. I gotta agree that the notification system in iOS is a big flop. However, iOS is also probably one of the most stable OS out there. Furthermore, it is also safe to say that Apple has the most developer support since they really take good care of their developers.

I think your video is good...but you should've wait a little bit to learn more about iOS, i'm not saying is perfect but you're missing something about bookmarks, for example. If you want to bookmark a webpage you can also send it to the home screen, like an app icon, and you can access from there without having to go to safari. Also iOS doesn't only show you 6 of your last apps u used, if you flip through right you can see your other apps running,etc.
Those are just a frew things of iOS...

the only thing I was able to notice here is that xoom has better hardware and that you love android.. An htc evo replaced my iphone. tthe quality and diversity of apps in MPt, really suck..I'm a gamer, and I really miss all those good games from itunes, some of them have a peer in MPlace, but they suck, look like 8bit game and crash continuously. if xoom add a similar quality verification It can do something, otherwise It will be another ipad killer going to the trash.

An htc evo replaced my iphon. tthe quality and diversity of apps in MPt, really suck..I'm a gamer, and I really miss all those good games from itunes, some of them have a peer in MPlace, but they suck, look like 8bit game and crash continuously. if xoom add a similar quality verification It can do something, otherwise It will be another ipad killer going to the trash.

Once again, you're being mostly fair, but you left out that by swiping left from the home screen, you can get Apple's own voice commands. They are limited to facetime, calls, playing music. And I agree that it's not as integrated, but you don't even mention it. Not to mention google's own voice search app that you have installed.
Unless Honeycomb can use voice to type in the default mail app or use voice in text msg, I think that the voice services you can use on both suck.

the android market place it's a xerox copy of the app store, BUT the result it's like a paper jammed in the machine that u pull out with a screwdriver. different resolutions=shit. u should compare the apps optimized for the tablets and how not optimized apps work. just apple developed apps, alone, put the xoom to shame. and don't forget the itunes store. don't forget the computer-tablet synchronization, u know, easy updates, backup, organization etc. etc. etc. learn ios, then review.

If you think oh look at the camera it's under 1megapixel so it's s**t, i can advice you buying for that money which you spend more for XooM alot better digital camera than XooM's cameras...(btw sorry for bad english and almost no grammar xD )

Very nice video. Truth is apple swung back at the mass of Android tablets coming, but came up short...something maybe ipad 3 can fix ( poor cameras, low screen resolution etc). In the mean time all you apple fanboys can fear the robot invasion!!!

Its funny how if people always say "oh he is so biased" just because they prefer the other device. the dude points out what he thinks is the better choice. he is not telling you buy this one or buy the other. If anyone thinks that the ipad is not the best device they are biased or whatever. Its kinda getting annoying. Is it something i hate about the apple community then it's that. All you people whining about the 2 or 3 tenths of a lb. difference in the weight of the zoom compared to the ipad? For god sakes, go exercise those string beans instead of crying about a few tenths of a lb. How do you manage to lift a can of soda all by yourself? Thats really a petty complaint. Its going to weigh a little more when its got a LARGER SCREEN, and a SECOND SPEAKER, and EXTRA PORTS, and a really heavy USB CARD! Yep, gimme the extra 2 tenths lb, I'd rather have the freedom.

98% of the aneroid apps available are fricken phone apps and they are ALL tailored to various screen resolutions so you'll be running most in some half-ass mode...reviewer did everything possible to skew the facts to his desired outcome...awful review by a moron...

Please take you head outta your arse, they will both get awesome software suport, so it pays to buy the tablet/OS with the most amount of features. Falsh(never), 4g(never), SDcard(never), usb port(never).. thats ipad2 for you. Go figure.

As an Android user and a former iPhone user, I can state the things that Apple does better. I can say I wish Android felt as smooth and shiny as iOS and that it had as many quality apps as the the AppStore.
The problem with Apple followers is that they'll say "who needs widgets? who needs more than one button? there's nothing wrong with the iOS notification system and why would I want to set up my device in any other way than what Apple says is right for me?"

@leonpeeon I agree you 100%. I have to say that though Honeycomb is much polished OS than older versions still it has some way to get there but I am sure it is going to be a great OS in future. Like you I wish it was extremely smooth and shiny as iOS or even windows 7(mobile)

@leonpeeon If Google decided to strip down Honeycomb so is functionality was restricted to only what IOS does then it would run 10x as smooth and feel 100x as shiny as IOS...IOS is still just a cell phone OS...It should never be compared to Honeycomb......IOS is a strip down minimalist OS that requires no real resources to run and so it runs effortlessly on dual core processors....but i do see your point...

@oakleyguy007 The only reason most people know how to use iOS is because it's so popular, I went to verizon and played with xoom for an hour and boom I know how to use it just fine. Isn't that exactly how everyone learned how to use iOS with all the Apple hype?
