In the school district I’m in, students can sleep in class, goof off, skip school, and in general never put any effort into their own education, the result, an “F” and a social promotion to the next grade. You want to help the children? Then demand the same high standards from them that you hold teachers too. Ask for a standards based education system that clearly says, “This is what you need to know, this is how you will show it, and you can only move to the next level when it is achieved.”
Wow i need his help in my community i have been reaching out to my community officials for some time. There was a day when the child came first. We the people have short changed our future in everyway we could. We take away there schools, there parks, there after school programs and activities. The lack of outreach and education has taken a major toll on the youth of today.
Our children dreams become a crushed reality with each school, park and youth program we allow to be closed down, with each school or youth outreach budget cut. We as a people(one) have to fix it. We are the teachers of tomorrow,
Is this Canada guy talking about the same teachers... or as he called, "professional educators", that taught the current leaders of our country, including himself? Teachers are the ones who "Stand for Children" every day, your group shames the profession of education and tries to make teachers look like villians. Shame on you!
@Raybrrrd We agree, great teachers are so important to our children's future. Please check out the "Great Teachers" video above, where Geoffrey Canada talks about his own favorite teacher, and the incredible impact a terrific teacher can have in a child's life. Stand for Children is not out to villify - in fact we work with teachers across the country on policies that will lead to better outcomes for ALL students.
@Raybrrrd I don't agree. He's doing whatever it takes. I'm not offended in any sort of way even though I am a teacher too. There's always room for improvement and listening to what his stand on education is has been an eye opener. I am getting ready to begin my 13th year and my own child will be starting K this year at a private academy and I see eye to eye with this guy. What he's saying makes total sense. I don't think he's saying that all teachers or bad or that we are villians.
Why wouldn't you listen to the "professional educators", many with multiple education degrees, who spend every second of their day trying to help whatever or however many students that are put in front of them, regardless of race, gender, language, special needs, and home-life baggage? Teachers, who regardless of special interest groups like yours, backed by big business and private corporations, continue to work just to make a decent living for themselves and their families.

Studies show that with lack of understanding and knowledge in education a person would grow frustrated and begin to shy away(Give up hope).

Misunderstand causes anger and chaos and that is what we are getting out of today’s youth.

The brain can only know the information that has been thought and learned; What you put into it is what you get out simple as that.
