  • edcoondog, Guide ropes? Evidently you have NEVER worked under a helicopter (or flown an external load) delivering equipment. If you have a fantastic pilot like the one flying this helicopter there is absolutely no need to have "guide ropes" being blown around by rotorwash when the pilot can put the load right in your hands. Stick to things you know!

  • No offense, but that was the most unsafe lift i've ever seen. First, right off the bat when he comes in to hook up the line, there's shit blowing all over the roof. If i were the pilot i would have got the heck out of there until they cleaned up the work area and got rid of the crap that was blowing around. Second, no guide ropes??? The ground crew just runs under a giant load and grabs on? Would've been smart to have a guide rope or two for the crew to grab onto and guide to safe height.

  • Hey man. That Bell 1 A Utility Helicopter is the star of the show and a real workhorse. Those choppers defined the war in Vietnam and could do anything and were much loved by the units that flew them like the First Air Calvary and the 101 Airborne. When the US Army replaced them with the Black Hawk it was never the same - and oh - try and catch a play at the new Mark Taper Forum! Very nicely remodeled and nice!

  • That's one skilled pilot.

  • nice work!
