  • Jordan Rudess is a God of keyboards and sounds. If he can´t make this "instrument" sound decent then we all can be shure, The instrument really sucks. It's confusing and anoying.

  • Did a alien crashed near jordan rudess's home and he found this?

  • rudess is like a boy with his toys,i love this boy!

  • probably not something i would just jump into buying one of those things i'd like to try first still have to give it credit as it looks pretty cool and is a nice concept.

  • This is the ultimate ET toy played by jordan rudess

  • control the world? wtf? that's bullshit everybody knows the rworld is control by jhohn petrucci and his racks... and in 2012 john will use the world killzone mode to finish with all of us!

  • "In this instrument you have a 16x16 grid of pixels which basically controls THE ENTIRE WORLD."

so those dots are coordinates, lol.

  • @NigAlb I can see my house from here! :D!

  • "a 16 by 16 grid of pixels, which basically control the entire world." - Give this man some pixels, and he is god.

  • Meh.. I prefer the Kaoss Pad, to be honest!

  • lol 1:20

    "Experimentr..." "Experimental!"

    RUDESS THE BEST

  • Cool sound.this is awsome

  • oh jordan rudess

  • too bad no one can afford the damn thing!

  • @Hammett11

It's only 999 in th US... That's not so bad.

  • only? lol.

  • the guy almost seems like hes mental at first but thats bad a..

  • Wow thats freaking wasome!

  • does it have MIDI?

  • GREAT!!!

    PERFECT!!!

  • Does Jordan have a Kaoss Pad? I'd like to see him work on one of those.

  • @Slashe50 Yes he does and I remember him using it in the intro of Schmedley Wilcox during the Chaos in Motion tour !

  • Comment removed

  • @slashe50 yes i saw him demo one at NAMM

  • lol all my comments are spam and they are all talking good about Dream Theater? WTF people are you dead serious? and to this Bilgueits faggot guy, i really hope you were joking because that is just the most wrong statement ever stated in the history of the world.

  • 1:35 "a 16 by 16 grid of pixels that basically CONTROL THE ENTIRE WORLD." I couldn't have put it better. ;-)

This is a great video, perhaps the clearest description of what is actually HAPPENING behind that awesome grid of lights...

makes me want one even more ;-)

  • If you used an Radias R to open more opportunities could you then make the Tenori-On work like something as the continuum or the Bebot?

  • I don't get it. What's this FOR?

  • Sorry, I don't know who Rudess is, but the video is excellent! Im hoping to get me a Tenori-on soon

  • ughh then you must be dumb. He is probably not the best keyboardist in the world and apart of the best band in the fucking world Dream Theater.

  • Thats right Brandon! Im dumb because I was not fortunate enough to be born with your amazing & gifted talent, of outstanding inbuilt knowledge of every single decent musician this world has ever known. Shame on me.. I bow to your superiority.

I hope you enjoy your Friday night, which appears to comprise of posting your words of wisdom about the internet in such a warm, friendly & unbiased manner. You rule!

Back on topic.. My Tenori-on is on it's way!

  • haha yea because I probably just didn't get home from playing with my band nope. I was sitting here all day didn't even go to class because I was posting comments on youtube all day. Sorry if I made fun of you but you don't understand how much Dream Theater is to me and when someone doesn't know who they are I get pissed but oh well.

  • Don't get pissed when somebody doesn't know who they are. Show them the band.

  • @bilgueits

    Hi! Motherfucker. Die :)

  • Go die then.

  • Jordan Rudess is the keyboardist of the progressive metal band Dream Theater, and he works as a solo artist, too. He is truly BADASS! Check him out ;)

  • Jordan Rudess is keyboard player of Dream Theater, if youre intrested

  • @Llitsor rudess is god, that's all u need to know

  • @drumari0 Thanks :) And yes, he certainly seems to be a great musician. He appears to have that ability to play any instrument brilliantly well.

Sometimes I think if I handed him an old arthritic cat, and a cheap plastic bucket, he could make an instrument from it, which he'd still manage to play beautifully.

  • @Llitsor lol, probably. hes inspired me soo much

  • Didnt he use this in the intro to the final song in the Chaos in Motion Dvd?

  • yep :D

  • Yeah, to Trial of Tears intro

  • no actually he used a KORG KP3 KAOSS pad

  • Oh, okay, they look very similar with the lights and such.

  • Yeah, one way you can tell them apart is that the KORG Pad has a slider and a bunch of buttons

  • Do you mean schmedley wilcox? ^^

  • Seeing the front really wouldn't help you that much - the buttons Jordan is pressing are just areas on the frame that don't look any different from the frame itself. Most of the programming activity takes place by dragging your finger through the LED matrix, and that you can see from the back side. That's why we did it that way - seeing the front just isn't all that useful.

  • inspire me to give him a shot . . . kick ass crap

  • 4:12 de de de de de de de de

  • this TOTALLY confuses me!! but I soooooo want one!!

  • HOLY SHIT,

    .

ITS A 16x16 DOT GRID THAT BASICALLY CONTROLS THE WORLD, HOW IS THAT A NOVELTY?

  • Jordan is a Alien for me!:)

  • well, it plays in scales/modes; so a knowledged musician would be able to follow.

and as far as it being a drum machine; it's fabulous. i own a Tenori-On & know there is no velocity control, but to make good music on there, you really have to use all 16layers.

because of no velocity, you'd place each drum on a different layer w/different volumes.

and for good bass sounds on tenori, you must combine like 4of the internal bass sounds together & at intervals & different lengths/volume

  • ya, but vs a decent keyboard and a mpc or something, it seems like a waste of money if you're not onstage with it.

  • i agree i mean i would get a lot of other stuff for cheaper imean to me it's just am toy it is cool but, i mean if it was 250 i would be ok

  • wtf is that?

  • it's a yamaha Tenori-On. check out more youtube videos. physical step sequencing!

  • I know its not a kid's toy necessarily, but its a fairly useless instrument save for its novelty.

  • your moms a kids toy

  • What a great gadget and a great performer! I want to get one of those

  • i would get bored of that pretty soon!!!

  • NOT A TOY. This is a brillient instrument design, I'd like to see it mated to a Bucula Synthisizer. The bouncing balls part should have been longer because this is the most brillent feature of all, any imaginable rhythm can be generqated this way, most of them not even remotly connected to 4/4, but all of them swinging thanks to this wonderful design

  • What is the price please ?

    From France

  • 999 USD

  • Thank you for sharing information not seen in other videos out there. Cool stuff!

  • wtf does it do?

    looks unbelivably awful

  • Look at him, it's a mind controlling device !

  • When music instruments meets new technology. I like that sound he makes at 4.12 when he says: "dururudurudede!". LOL!

  • It looks like a digital etch-a-sketch. I'm sure it was play a game of paddles at around 0:33.

  • how 'bout playing the Octavarium solo here Jordan? LOL!!!

  • can it play orchestra sounds like the Memotron?

  • it's amazing what technology can do

i want one of those! :P

  • DO WANT!

  • "So basicly it controls the whole world" Ah...competing with Petrucci eh Rudess? But can it control how hot the sun is!? Petrucci still has you beat lol. I love DT!

  • Haha! What video are you referrencing to? Maybe you have a link or video id for me.

  • just search adam02, thats the guy that puts up a bunch of hilarious john petrucci overdubs.

  • Have not used this one yet!!

  • What an awesome instrument. It's a wonderful time to be alive and a musician.

  • It's good for a vintage videogames effects! :-)

  • Has Jordan ever used this instrument live with Dream Theater before? I think I seen a video on it here, but I can't seem to find it! :(

    Sounds amazing nevertheless.

  • yes he did use it once during a show i went to in Albany New York but i wasnt sure what it was

  • alright Santa, you know what I want biatch.

  • This would look amazing live. Get about 10 of these set up in a row and have whole orchestrations of these things, as well as putting on a great visual performance. I'd like to see if he uses something like this in a metal song of sorts, maybe with DT. it'd be awesome.

  • The beauty of this instrument is that the graphic interface

inspires very different types of musical ideas. It also is able to output MIDI so you can control and MIDI sound source.

Its wonderful to see people designing instruments that merge the world of sight and sound!

  • You gotta get Dani one of these! :P

  • Haha holy shit my video comes up first after this one. Yay!

  • Nice! On Vimeo, there's a cool clip that pairs Tenori-on with external synths. Check out "Tenori-on Meets Kyma."

  • LOLWUT. Awesome.

  • It certainly seems cool to play with, but I'm not too happy calling this thing an instrument. I'm not convinced that this machine can produce sounds, that can't be created with more control on another device. Cool anyway :)

  • I can make a keyboard sound like a guitar. I can make an orange sound like an ocarina. I can make a piece of elastic on cardboard sound like a bass guitar. It's not the sounds you create, it's HOW you create them. It's the control, not the sound. The control of this allows you to change what sounds you produce.

  • omg. i would have soo much fun with that. hahaha

  • It seems that Yamaha is following one of the market's gold rules:

IF YOU WANT A SYNTH TO HAVE SUCCESS, PUT IT IN THE HANDS OF JORDAN RUDESS.

  • reminds me of an etch a sketch for some reason

  • don't you mean lite brite? lol ;P

  • awesome! I heard Yamaha sells them from their shop for abot £600. I think. I WANT ONE NOW!!!

  • DT meets proghouse

  • c'est quoi ce truc ????

  • Whataa

  • how the hell does that work???

  • That is awesome, but I predict that within a year we'll see inexpensive toy versions in stores, and the world will be flooded with kids producing the equivalent of horrible video game music.

    The murder rate will skyrocket.

  • Nice!!!

  • LOL oh it'll be worse

  • stoner's paradise...

  • that is one of the coolest things i've ever seen.

  • Way to go! :D
