Many African tribes used to fight each other to capture as many prisoners of war as possible. The winning tribe would reach an agreement with European traders and sell the slaves. Black tribes sold other black people into slavery to make money. It's not just white people who were bad back in the day. Also, there are still millions of slaves today in Asia and Africa as well as hidden slaves (trafficking) all across the world in EVERY country. There are more slaves today than there were back then.
I think that nobody should be ashamed of what happened in the past. Its not happening now and it didn't happen to the African Americans today and I don't see why its such a sensitive topic!
I see this man's statement totally differently; I don't see him as being embarrassed about his ancestors being slaves; I think he's concerned about finding out more information about the owners of his family than he might be able to handle. Wouldn't it affect you if you found out your ancestors were owned by the ancestors of a family you're very close to? It would mess with my mind.

I always hated this commericial, because he makes it seems like us Blacks are ashamed of our history and misleading other races, blacks actually love to gather what little history we have here in the U.S. He also acts like he's speaking for us as a whole, we know slavery happen and us blacks just deal with it as reality, we're not ashamed, because that was out of our hands. Us Blacks should boycott this commercial or write a petition to do so!

I have to say that I felt the same way when I first saw this commercial months ago.What he said in the beginning,didnt need to be said...Its like a someone looking for holocaust ancestry suggesting that they might be embarrassed about their ancestors being holocaust victims.. Shouldnt feel embarrassed or ashamed about coming from slaves..After all,it wasnt their fault.. If anything,it makes you stronger that you your ancestors SURVIVED this. The VERY REASON WHY THE REST OF US EXIST TODAY.

Um. There's nothing "embarrassing" about having ancestors who were oppressed, nor is that what the ad implies.
It is quite simply unsettling to learn that your ascendents suffered in that way. They are your family, after all.
