I can't understand what makes you think this is the smallest install disk just 'cause you got it to install from a SD card (oh, big deal). You're sd card is 8GB actually and you call this smallest? Ubuntu takes only 700MB on the OS install disk.
I guess you love so much your mac that you think what your macbook do no other operation system can do so..... You're kinda ****.
whoa chill out. it was a literal reference. i meant small as in the size (not size of the OS itself). I don't think anyone's has installed an OS onto their computer from any medium smaller than a microSD. this probably will change over time. Other linux distros probably takes less than 700mb. but seriously, chill out.
@SnowLeopard2008Oh man, you took it the wrong way. I wasn't upset or whatever. I was sarcastic... and about the "I love my mac" stuff, sorry, i really am annoyed about a lot of people saying mac is best than pc that I don't even see why I'm say such thing. Sorry, my bad... You should have title it like "World's Smallest OS Install Media", not disk...
And by the way, I use Mac OS X 10.6.4 on my pc, and I love it....
@rapha1885 Ahh I see. It's kind of hard to show that online I guess. I'm not biased or blind like that. I'll change the title, thanks for the suggestion. I use whatever is necessary to get my work done, not Mac or PC or anything.
@rapha1885 MAC is BEST! at MOST SIMPLE things, i mean BRILLIANT WITH EMAIL, MUSIC iTUNES Media. as in videos podcasts, and the settings are a lot more understandable.
not that im a noob with win 7 x64
i have a 200X faster Desktop PC with Win 7x64 runs apps almost INSTANTLY! but i love my mac. u know what for? RELIABILITY! i have had my PC out of action 3 times, since christmas, the OS Crashed on boot the first time, 2nd time the GFX fan would not spin, so i was dead in water 3rd time Motherboard
@supercoolguyT that wasn't a literal reference. but this is, the mac os x kernel is 64 bit. but there aren't many 64-bit hardware extensions so you almost always boot in 32-bit.
MacOS it's an awesome Operating System. I really like that they are the only(that made a good OS) with microkernel. The problem is that microkernel reduces the speed of all the computer by ~20%... In that case better to use Linuxes Monolithic Kernel :P. So, Linux is the best :)(Big thanks to Linus Torvalds).
@aliancemd Shame about vendor lock in eh... Linux is only best in some cases, just like Mac is best in some cases too. There is no outright best OS or nobody would use the others.
@ShadowEater120880 Yep, there is no Best OS. That was said just for the sake of saying it :). But you can find "between the worst OS's", like Windows :). They have great business managers, dragged all of the vendors to them but the OS still isn't good behind the shiny interface :). The Security Auditing tools still find more and more holes in it. FreeBSD passed the Audit with no holes at all, interesting => MacOS has good security too because it's based on FreeBSD.
yeah, ubuntu is amazing. when they get rid of the need for terminal for half the installs then i think it will take out windows or at least i hope so. the creator of gnome interface is a really cool guy so i like ubuntu distro best but thats my opinion
dsl looks like shit though. to me it looks like win 95 lol. they make bigger thumb drives now you know. well i guess i have nicer computers and dont see the need for dsl or even kde for that matter, but we all have our opinions. just like some ppl like win more than osx or osx more than win
I would use red hat or centos linux if I had a spare computer lying around. fedora is also a good option. but I'm kinda of the IT guy so those linux distros are more suited for IT than personal use.
yeah, but i believe those two cost money. also, fadora is based off ubuntu gnome edition. fadora is the best looking on in my opinion, but then again who has any form of linux looking stock lol. if linux supported itunes with out an emulator, id prolly have linux on my macbook.
centos is free. red hat is what i prefer to use for linux, being an it admin kind of guy.
i'd use linux too... it's more for geeks like me and you not for the average joe. but then again, windows vista's control panel confuses everyone and anyone, including me.
Very cool! One suggestion though, using a tripod will free up your hands and give a steady feeling to the vid. Sometimes its hard to watch when the camera keeps moving around.
@azsxw2 it IS a microSD card

What you mean by 'World's Smallest', this isn't words smallest of anything. I have installed os from micro sd. And btw Max OS Xs kernel isn't 64bit.
supercoolguyT 1 year ago
@supercoolguyT no need to say it twice. and yes, the kernel is 64 bit but due to compatibility issues, almost everyone boots in 32 bit.

how did you get the install onto the sd card? anything fancy you have to do?
pcbuilder97 2 years ago
nope, I used disk utility to copy the mac os x install disc to the sd card.
SnowLeopard2008 1 year ago
will it work on windows xp or is it just mac
taylaboy889 2 years ago
@taylaboy889 works with anything, linux as well. you just need the os install disc, and a computer that can boot from an sd card slot.
SnowLeopard2008 1 year ago
@SnowLeopard2008 have you got thw disc image

You can run a full OS of linux/unix on under 50MB on sd-card/usb whatever

HAHA,,,, ubuntu is crap to be a linux-os/dist. It's verrry slow to be a linux-os/dist.
For my computer is Ubuntu slow as vista kinda, but when I use another linux-dist/os, it's runs faster then XP ;)
And that linux-dist I was thinking whats is under 50MB is
"DSL" "Damn Small Linux"
