Gosh I hated that Island when I was there, but when I look back on it, it was such a great place. The friendly people, cheap food, Taco Rice and Co Co curry house. Miss that place.
what do you know about the island or the people.............nothing!!! i love oki the people the senery the language and the culture.....but most of all FOOD
I'm about to leave here soon and I can definitely say that I will miss this place. It's so sad to think about leaving and what lies ahead. I love you Okinawa. I will miss you. Until we meet again, Sayonara!!!
@cdmadison08 I think your wrong Okinawa is the best i lived there 8 years and now i live in the Usa and i am always homesick adn i acnt wait to get back there so i think you need look back and relize its amazing!
trust me i was saying the same thing. and i moved last year in august....the states is nothing close to okinawa. people in oki are already cool and wise and chill, and people here jjust try to be like that, and its not safe as oki, and everything is miles away when in oki you could walk wherever. once you leave it your not gonna think that anymore.
Camp Hansen, Okinawa 1995-1996. 9th ESB Bulk Fuel Co. (1391) and MTU (8531). Go figure...a Bulk Fueler trained as a PMI. Far East Div. weapon matches.
Hmm, I don't remember the name of the band. It was a bunch of Air Force guys, though. The one thing I *do* remember, though, was the bar constantly playing that horrendous La Bouche techno between sets. It was funny. Me and my boys still talk about that. (we actually had it played at their weddings as an inside joke)
Camp Hanson.Feb 00 to Feb 01.Let none of us forget those days when life was vivid, air was humid, beer was expensive, and friends were all. This video made a grown jarhead cry....but don't tell anyone.Semper Fi
i loved okinawa, i was stationed at torii station for a little over three years 88 to 91. we had it pretty good in the army at the time. i was in the motor pool and spent most of my time picking people up at the airport in naha and driving them around. very relaxed.
Your vid made my eyes well. Did two tours on Schwab between 99 and 03. It really was the best and worst of times that I would not trade for the world!
I was a brat on Kadena in the 70s and I still am in contact with a few of my friends from my 3 years on Okinawa. I wouldn't trade that time of my life for anything.... :)
I was in Okinawa from Christmas Day 91 until November 1992 stationed at Camp Schwabb with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion. It is what you make of it. I did dread being so far North those long bus trips to Kadena but had the time of my life at the AF clubs. anyone there around then please hollar at me I heard 3rd Recon is no more and went to Hansen and is now Force?
Well I know I got out in November of 92 and as far as I know yes 3rd Recon at Schwabb was disbandeded and incorporated into 3rd Force and moved to Hansen but thats all I know for sure. I left Schwabb actually around October
I never quite understood why there was Recon and Force Recon. As far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong), the main difference between the two is that those in Force Recon are jump and dive qualified (i.e. they wear the bubble)whereas those in Recon are only jump qualified. Is this correct?
I am a former Marine who was stationed in Okinawa (Camp Kinser) for two years. I think the fact that you served at Hansen is partly the reason you didn't enjoy your time in Oki. I assume that you probably didn't go out much, and didn't have a car. Being stuck in Hansen/Schwabb/Henoko is the worst. Like XionSin, the best years of my life to date was spent on Okinawa.
That's true. I took the bus, taxi, and bummed rides for six months before I got my license. Back then only NCOs and above were allowed to drive. I don't know what it's like now. I'm thinking about visiting Oki some time next year. I just want to see how much of it has changed.

Actually, I was there in the Marines and loved it and volunteered to stay an extra year. Best time of my life to date.

Being on Hanson is no excuse, there is the libo bus and they can go out from Courtney or Foster.

Lots of stuff has changed, but one thing hasn't, no one wants to go there. lol What are people's problem?
XionSin 3 years ago
You're right, close-minded barracks rats who have never been outside bumfuck Iowa still don't want to go to Okinawa. Nothing has changed.
