i have my midnight blue 86 turbo and it needs some body and shocks work done to it but i still havent broken 100k original miles on it yet so im hoping to make her faster than she is.
@CHAOSKI2200 first off make sure that ur motor and trans are in healthy conditions. give it a good full tune up. then the best cheap bolt ons you could do are.89-90 240sx ka24e throttle body.intake.exhaust.electric fan.maxima 90amp altenador. then you could add a boost controller and bump the boost to 9-10psi make sure you get a boost gauge that reads at leats 20-25 psi so you could see how much boost your running.then you will have your self mini sleeper
but safe for the older turbos is like 12-14 im sure any higher and you start burning the turbo up slowly over time and wear it out quickly, although if you just swap in a nicer one lol
@2jzs13 the T3's that came on the 84,85,(86 87 not to sure about cuz i dont know anyone with that year so not 100% but going on they listed the same turbo) hit a max of 18 psi after you remove the boost protecting bolt thingy on the side of the stock intake, Zbum states anything past 12 psi and the power gains vs heat isn't worth it.
@532WHU t3's came in the 84-87 z31 t25's came on the 88-89 .i had a t25 pushing 10psi and it would dropp boost at like 4,800rpm so then i got a t3 turbo from a 86 z31 and it waz pretty good considering its a fatory turbo.
@532WHU The Pop Off Valve in the side of the plenum releases at merely 8psi, to run more than that you need to plug it with a plug from a NA plenum. ZBUM doesn't know as much as he thinks, 15psi cars make a good bit more power than a similar car on 12psi, but pushing past 14-15psi isn't flowing much more air than 14-15psi. The 12psi number is the limit scared people ran a few years back, its pretty well known now you can go to 14-15psi.
84-87s had T3s, 88-89s had T25s. '85-89s=watercooled turbo
how much did you buy it for??? im looking into getting one i always loved the 300s even the 90s version... love being the "rice" in the group and can probably out run a mustang... love nissan!
@Deathsassaliant i got the car for $1800 when i was 17yrs old. it was my first turbo car to mod and i was pretty surpriced on how well this car would respond to minor bolt-ons. i spent like $1500 on the right parts and dynoed 243hp 272tq

@532WHU the stock t3 / t25 turbos that came from factory on 300zx z31 wont hold boost past 10psi.
