  • THEY USED A 909 ON THIS.

  • Why is Mantronix not wearing any pants on the album cover?

  • BROOKLYN!!!!!!!!!! ORIGANATOR!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great sleeve art by Gemini & Gnome

  • SO. MUCH. FUNK.

  • This album is a classic and was revolutionary for its time in hip hop!

  • this track still sounds good today. real hip-hop mothafuckaz!

  • ill

  • Man I have one questtion to Just. Even-tho KRS-1 was your boy at that time, Why didn't you do the second album with Kurtis. His style wit yo style equals unmatchable. I have always asked myself and other Hip-Hop fans that question.

  • Change the bass..... [crowd goes wild] bins start bouncing...

  • this is the level you fucking newbies have to come upto

  • KURTIS is the first to freak the SP12 AND SP1200, of course CED GEE AND MARLY MARL also!

  • Step back or you might get slapped jack!

  • Shit made me go way back...

  • What a tuuuune! Just listen to that beat, its mezmorizing! They dont make hip hop like this anymore. Another tune Kurtis made that is dope is "We control the dice" from Music Madness. I remember seeing T La Rock and Mantronik performing "Breaking Bells" on Rock around the clock in London one new years eve on tv. Cant think what year now. Faze One were there too. "Pleasure Seekers"

  • talking 5% with a white producer?!??!? please just-ice was the orignal gangster of rap, wrong era.

  • @emu163 lol you don't know shit, Just-Ice was 5% and that is factual, ask Blaq Poet, ask who was really running the streets of NY in the 80's and the names give it away - Supreme and all the names like that are 5% names Just-Ice (justice) wrong era ? wtf you talkin, 5% talk been in Hip Hop since..if you don't know 5% and there ties with the streets then you def don't know anything and for the record Schoolly D and/or Ice T are considered the people who started gangster "rap"...

  • @emu163 Mantronik was born in Jamaica to a Syrian father and a Jamaican mother.... In Jamaica it's not all black and white like the states. They don't see color like we do here... it's hard to explain but different.

  • I agree that this is one of the greatest beats ever BUT has anyone really listened to Just Ice's lyrics, SERIOUSLY he kills it, talking all that 5% talk that Rakim and Kane and Lord Shafiyq spit. ONE OF THE GREATEST HIP HOP TRACKES EVER, IMO it is up there with TROY and 93 Til.. takes me back to when I was like 12-13, so glad i witnessed the golden era nd still got all my vinyl form that time....

  • damn i think i just hurt my neck .....

  • 0:24 - "YO, CHANGE THE BASS!" That bass change STILL amps me!

  • @dukenthaylor Yo change the pace not base

  • @tlarock Oh, my bad, sir! Apologies, with much love, respect and thanks to you, JustIce and Mantronix for one of the sickest tracks in history! IMHO, from one slave of the rhythm to another, you represented WAAAY ahead of the curve!

    .

And, speaking as a huge fan, even to this day, the next-gen pace change on that ill beat, and those dope lyrics, STILL amps me and tilts me like a batman hideout! 8^D

  • classik shit!!!! i get so tired of these greatest producer list that don't have Mantronix on it. these people no nothing about real hip hop pioneers. Mantronix is truly one of the greatest of all time.

  • Just-Ice. One of my fave hip hop artists back in the day and with Mantronik providing the beats it was a match made in heaven. There never was a sound like it at the time.

I would say the album is in the top 10 all time hip hop for real fans.

Also, Breaking Bells and Bass Machine from T La Rock and Mantronik were groundbreaking, check them out.

  • Awe man this takes me back. Suzuki Samuris and Nissan "mini truck" on Daytons. lol

  • I played this on cassette so much it snapped!

  • Sweet!

    Thank you!

  • One of the best flows ever,..talk about weavin in and out of the beats...perfect...REAL hip hop my man

  • parrock1.mantronic is the name of the producer.when collaborating with the great m.c.tee,an x would replace the c to acknowledge that it was a group not just him alone.also to suggest that the legendary yet humble t la rock cant spell is disrespectfull as he suffered long term head injuries from an attack in the bronx while trying to stop a fight outside his building..and yas my spelling isnt great..nobsta nutts.

  • @nobstanutts not true. DJ Kurtis Mantronik is the only 'official' spelling you'll find anywhere. I'd never diss the real T La Rock - his tune Def Jam was one of the main cuts that got me into hip hop back in the 80's. If the man himself posted that comment, respect and apologies. But you can't blame me for being suspicious.

  • @Parrock1 Mantronix is the official spelling.

As previously stated, At times I would spell the name this way (Mantonik)

Though, Not often. BTW, Kurtis had no problem with me spelling his name that way.

If he did have a problem with it, He never brought it to my attention.

  • @tlarock fair enough, it was the spelling ending in a 'C' that aroused my main suspicions about people on here. Nuff respect to you, as I said, Def Jam was an important record for me and a lot of other London breakers from the old school.

  • @Parrock1

I think you meant to say, The song was important to you,

Def Jam is the name of the record company.

This song, Featuring Justice was released on Sleeping Bag/

Fresh Records, Which is the Label I signed on with after Def Jam.

If you require any additional information, Do not hesitate to ask.

  • @tlarock Mantronix was a group. Mantronik is the man. Peace.

  • @nobstanutts

    You are 100% correct

  • I'd like to think that the real T La Rock would be able to spell Mantronix correctly

  • @Parrock1 lol

  • @Parrock1

    # 1 - This is the real T La Rock

    # 2 - I spell His name 2 ways Mantonik Mantronix He is a very good friend of mine. I can guarantee this, He has no problem with the way I spell his name. We were not only label mates. We spent a lot of time together. In & out of the recording studio.

  • sickest track, love it!!!

  • this track is unreal to this day and forever more

  • Real Shit!!!! They can't do it like this today.

  • respect on the mic. when it comes 2 a rhyme...

  • at this time no one manuplated the 808 or 909 like Mantronix...

  • madvillainy sick fit i think

  • This was Hip-Hop at its BEST!! Just-Ice & Mantronix - Gotta Love it!!

  • I can only agree Philly......

Hip-Hop in '88 or anywhere about that date,

    take example no.1001 =

Just-Ice and Mantronix - as good as it gets!!

    Change the Bass.........

  • Yo This Cat was a Serious Emcee Hey a good book to get is Kool Moe Dee's book the 50 Greatest Emcees There's A GOD on the Mic Just Ice was number 50 that's what made me buy the book. I knew that KMD has the credentials to rate Emcees it's a good read.

  • Thanks for this track! One of my Ol' Skool favourites.

    Salam Aleikum

  • Mantronix hooked him up with the best beats on this album. His style and flow was perfect for these beats. AWesome..

  • Didnt he have another version to this???

  • yes, cold getting dumb II... it's on the related videos to the right ---->

  • Thanks, that version is much better than this one.

  • @chicagosfinest2k10 I think he did it was on my tape. I think this version is pretty good

  • wack mc's cant take this massive bass!

  • massive tune. These kinda beats were designed to terrify wack mc's..

  • @UBZUKI You got that right this beat is still sick as hell. Red man Ksolo jawn in 96 was tight

  • @UBZUKI true dat

  • @UBZUKI Yes, I would agree with that sentiment

  • Quite simply. The best record ever made !

  • this was the year in new york it was the fever and the roof top but in philly it was after midnight saint E in north philly the ymca in north philly hollar if you can relate

  • @johnn2sexy4you The Fever, The roof top were after hours clubs. People would go from the Roxy or the Fun house to the fever. The later it got the more people came. I would perform then hit the fever after.

  • if one doesnt apreciate this joint, they simply dont understand. the hard beat is ridiculous n the lyrics were fly for their time

  • "were fly for their time"?? my friend there is no time in hip hop..you either rock or you dont...The Message by G M Flash and the Five 1984...many of todays rappers cant hang with that..its all relative my brother/sister.

  • @arnie133 Co-sign all the way and just for record and to give your point a lil boost The Message came out in 1982

  • @mookeychase0907 ...now i feel even older lol !!

  • @arnie133 YES!!!!

  • @arnie133 84?

  • This is one of the hardest tracks and true chill music. I love old school hip-hop. just-ice was a true old school gangsta!!!

  • Just-ice the original Hip-Hop gangsta, the original beat box DMX, and Mantronix the 808 king of the beats. This is when it was about beats and rhymes, Real Hip Hop.

  • still gets heavy rotation in my house, a track that i never get tired off, since i first heard in what ? 85,86 or something, gotfdamm that still bangs and Sir Vicious kills it.....

  • HARD NY NIGGAS - HIP HOP MUST Sound Like this or it WACK.!!!! BRONX !!!

  • madlib samples this in madvillainy

  • PEACE 2 TLA ROCK & JUSTICE

    PEACE GOD*7

  • this is Just-Ice

  • not T LaRock

  • I think we all know that. We are just acknowledging and respecting Tla as he chimed in on this video.

  • The opening beat is from a break beat record. Sampled from - "Funky music is the thing"

Beats programed and sampled with the SP 1200 alo the aquai 900 or 950.

Mantronix was incredible when it came to beat programming. I spent many hours with him in the studio.

  • Please come back to us, we truly miss u man!!!!! I'm a knuckle head from back in the days, first 12 inch i ever bought was It's Yourz, back in 84, still got it too, Peace

  • @TMcclain Im making a movie as we speak. There will be lots of new songs coming. Hold tight.

  • what up tlarock. man you still get regular play in studio. mantronix was the king of the beats. i used to study mantronix big time. cash money's sound was nothing but mantronix. manny fresh even admitted it. peace out, it's yours!!!!

  • @lexamazing Thanks for the LUV

  • @tlarock hi! do you also know the name of the short drum fill heard in this tune sounds the same as the one heard in UTFO's "ya cold wanna be with me"... looks like some go-go music but i cant remind what it is! :). Big up 2 u & maximum respect!

  • ALL YOU SUCKA NIGGAS GET OFF MY DICK

  • Me and my cousin til this day, listen to Mantronix and we're still amazed, with that Roland 909, I think KRS1 was the only other person using one of those. I heard they had stop making them back in like 89, is this true?

  • I was the one with the big boom box, my radio was def when I put this on. This is in the top three all time beats, it's right up there with planet rock... You could'nt find this beat anywhere for twenty years... good post !

  • I wish today's hip hop had this level of funk. Listen to how Just-Ice's voice is worked into the beat perfectly and vice versa. Even Mantronik isn't funky like this anymore. :(

  • This is one of the dopest hip hop beats ever!!!

  • Somebody need to rhyme over that intro. That's my favorite part.

  • 100% hip hop

  • yo change the bass!!!! classic line of this song!! real hip hop!! notice almost every rapper out now sampling real hip hop like this & turning it into their version of flip flop!!

  • I think what you meant was "Yo change the pace."

  • The line is Change the pace. I was in the studio with Just-ice when he recorded this song. I was also with Mantronic during pre production

  • "its yours" T La Rock??? don't front if you're not him, and if it is you, much respect to you sir!!

  • @24Adrian24 Was it him?

  • @tlarock Ay Dude, I produce music and equipment has changed over the years to make production easier. What was yall usin' back in the day as far as boards, samplers, and drum machines?

  • @dznutz1971 well im old school and back then if you had an 808 drum machine and a yamaha dx7 you was good

  • @tlarock Hell yea, if it really is you, much much respekt to one of the Greatest to hold a mic. .

"its time to chill strenghten up our will

live with one another without havin to kill"

  • @tlarock I like the way the base line changes pitch...classic!

  • @tlarock Is this THE T La Rock? It's yours? My first shot at a house party was in the Bronx in a basement. I went down & the strobe light was flashing, mad pretty Puerto Rican bitches with bombers & sheepskins was there and dudes were breaking & poppin'. And "It's Yours" came on & the crowd went berserk. Dudes started windmilin & battling. I was drinking my 40. Anyways your song made me fall in love with her--Hip-Hop. 95% of the songs out there now can't touch "It's yours" lyrically. Word up.

  • shit is killah ..MANTRONIX is the sampling king

  • @streetutorx Word..Mantronik is a LEGEND!...Peeps alwayz goin' on bout top 10 HipHop producers but NEVER mention Kurtis..He was behind alot of Dope shit back in the 80's...Fuck all these fuckers who buy MPC'S these days and jump on the bandwagon and cant make beats...Give respect to HipHop KINGS and if not, shut the fuck up!!! True heads know the real...old school ALWAYZ...PEACE!
