Ms. Carey is too concerned with her physical look, especially the 2 items in front. Darlene, by contrast, concentrates on her profession - Singing - as it should be. Now, as far as this song goes, true Mariah didn't do much for it, but this lady can't outsing Mariah, and you know it. The reason Mariah is more well known, is because her voice is remarkably versatile.

@iowa61 I have listened to Mariah's version and although excellent with a similar singing style, she copied the arrangement from Darlene, who at the time of this Letterman video was 66 years old and 26 years senior to Mariah and still had more volume to her voice than Mariah! The quality of thier voices is nearly equal but this song was recorded by Darlene in 1963 when music technology was limited. For me, Darlene owns this song, none better. I'd like to hear more opinions. Ron

Ptooey!), but what Paul Shaffer did here, recreating Spector's Wall of Sound almost note for note - instrumentation and back ground vocals in full, is a real marvel.
