Very cool to see the way a master's process evolves (in this case with the input of the other Beach Boys). I think this is a refined version of the way the song was initially to be done.
I wonder if they ever got the horse in there? LOL.
Cool! Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I have been listening to Frank Blacks version of this song for years, and decided to check out the original but was weary because I would rather listen to almost ANYTHING but the Beach Boys. Good writing, just hate the sound. Sorry, my purpose for this comment was to say I like this song, and was surprised by how much I liked it. :)
@alexandertarangerkin I read recently that Brian would record in mono so his sound couldn't be modified, eg by our stereos, not because one ear was damaged.
but they got stereo versions of the rest of PS, so it should be possible. I can't recall Brian recording his vocal in a different way for this song as to any of the others. I prefer these lyrics and the title to those in 'I Know There's An Answer'
this is the type of song u hear once and can make up your mind straight away whether its good or not, it doesn't grow on you, you know it's just pure quality
@kennethelp agreed. I Know There's an Answer, truly is inspiring. This just makes it seem more purposely pretentious ya know? Like they were trying to make a "psychedelic" song
@HiNonCeMale Brian wasn't trying to make a "psychedelic" song. He was on acid when he wrote this, and when he presented it to the band and managers they made him edit the lyrics into "I Know There's an Answer". Both are great, but I like this one a bit more.
@evanbanjo yea totally i know, but thats what it feels like because it doesnt seem to fit as well. yeah but he was all for the edit because he understood. agree though, both are really crazy good
@HiNonCeMale Each to their own :) I'm glad for once on Youtube people don't get super defensive over comments. Let's keep up the Beach Boys love. I'm gonna go pick up some good vibrations.

if it i hadnt listenned to this song i would never of knocked up girlfriend and been forced to propose. i wouldnt be nineteen and married with kids. still fucking love the beach boys
The two line chorus is just so brilliantly sung, one of the great passages in music, so great to listen too. The it is spoiled with ah-dooby-dooby-doo.
Back in 1966, I doubt most people outside of California knew what it meant to "trip through the day, and waste all your thoughts at night." This was a much smaller countercultural group of people that Brian was singing to and about. In 1966, the long arm of the law hadn't caught up to LSD yet
"They trip through the day and waste all of their thoughts at night. Now how can I say it, now how can I come on when I know I'm guilty." - I think this shit will still ahere to the future, just like it does now.
-Hang on to your ego, fuck i'm high and this is wonderful for your brain.

its just a trip when he says hold on to your ego instead of i know theres an answer, just that alone makes it surreal.

@HiNonCeMale
that's exactly what he was trying to do. he was trying to make a song that was consciousness-expanding i.e. psychedelic.
