@fman40000 According to propaganda yes they feel no fear. BUT SMs DO feel fear. It just takes more to scare Astartes than it does to scare humans. If u don't believe me go read Graham McNeills Ultramarines series or any number of books foccused on SM characters (the codex doesn't count) :)

@TreyaarkCill The Ultramarines series is published by Black Library (the official publishers of GW novels etc) and therefore official cannon of the 40k universe. So technically it was approved by the creators. Plus the whole "SMs feeel no fear!" thing is a result of imperial indoctrination and brainwashing AND it sounds cooler than "we're normal inside"

@kingkong381 True, the Black Library books are approved by GW. However, the codex is written by GW itself, and is thus one level closer to the absolute truth than the Black Library. If taken in a vacuum, the series is a reliable source, but when it contradicts the codex, the codex overrules it. The Space Marines are mentally conditioned, however, they are much more aware of the facts of the universe than a standard human because of their role in Imperial defense.

@kingkong381 Going along with what you also said about aliens, they (the human colonies) were enslaved during the period of massive Warp Storms. As someone who plays the game from four armies not just Space Marines I can say that that did happen and so did the Horus Heresy. The idea of Chaos scares humanity for a good reason. And the Aliens are just as much out to get us as we are them in 40k and the Emperor began to hunt them as well because they attacked our colonies first.

@fman40000 Also. What is courage? Facing and fighting what you fear. And why to SMs get all edgy about chaos? They're terrified of the evidence of a 10000 year old feud! Why do they hate aliens? They don't understand them and what people don't understand they also tend to fear and what people are afraid of they try to destroy. So under all that armour, gene experimentation and psycho-conditioning SMs are still human.

@kingkong381 Ok, I'll admit they can still be afraid in theory because they're human, but they're as close to fearlessness as a sane person can be. Even if they are afraid on occasion, their love for the God-Emperor outweighs that fear, and they keep fighting anyway.
