I really don't see why people didn't actually keep track of the number of the year instead of the first two digits. Any number up to 131,072 will fit on only 2 bytes, so memory isn't a problem.

@googiek most program databases will have a certain amount of characters assigned to something, each character unfortunatly takes up a byte since the database has to remember to on use 2 digits

The CEO character was actually correct when he said that the new century wouldn't start until 2001. Think about it and do the simple math.There are 100 years in a century. The end of 1999 was the completion of 19 centuries plus 99 years. The 20th century ended one year later at the end of 2000.

There are 100 years in a century. The years 1 thru 100 were the 1st century. The years 101 thru 200 were the 2nd century. The years 201 thru 300 were the 3rd century. Continue forward until you get to the years 1901 thru 2000 which were the 20th century. The 21st century started with the year 2001. Amazingly, it is rare to find anyone who has figured this out correctly. Oh well, as Scott Adams said in his book The Dilbert Principal, we are all idiots (especially FakeBatman).

Well, with that logic, what was the year 0 AD? Centuries are 100 years, so, 0 AD to 99 AD was the first century. 100 AD to 199 AD was the second century. The centuries start at the start of the next '0' year.
