  • I know it's a silly question, but can anyone tell what the metronome speed is at which he plays this?

    great upload btw, thx!!

  • Nobody can play the Well Tempered Clavier like András Schiff....

  • Andras shiff' BWV version =best of all time

  • This was ...awesome. He is such a great pianist. One of the best performances of this work I've ever heard. More Schiff!

  • I'm just a simple person who has studied and know's to appreciate Bach's music in all its splendor.

  • Great master! I have never heard such a wonderful performance of Bach's music.

BTW: There is not any wrong note in bar 25 - this is an additional ornament, "Accent fallend", I think.

  • I'm amazed at how clear some of this is, especially where both themes begin on the same f# where it tends to become muddled. I can't say I've heard a better recording or performance of this.

  • This is probably the most difficult piece of music I ever mastered on the piano. And Schiff's recording inspired me in so many ways!

  • Andras Schiff is the best player of Bach's music!

  • @mtv565 You are mental abortion? Or you are drunk?

  • @GBADCD Where's your manners?

  • @mtv565 Then, do not offend Bach.

  • @GBADCD Then do not spout insults. Asking you back your own question: Are you a mental yourself?

  • i think this is miles better than richters. Schiff brings out the larger structure of the fugue, while richter seems obsessed with just always having the subjects audible over everything else. to my ears he makes the music very boring

  • a travel for other dimensions that are being discovered by the quantum physics today but Bach it had already revealed us in the form of paradise of the music.

    perfect interpretation of Schiff.

  • Apart from being flat and a little affected (and the wrong note in bar 25), this was much more bearable to listen to than Glenn Gould's masturbatory train-wreck.

I agree that Richter is pretty good, though.

  • I think that schiff interpretations of bach are the best,

  • @laureanobruno The best after Koroliov and Bahrami.

  • @Lavsimon and Richter, please ;)

  • @TableLamp1963 "masturbatory train-wreck" =) Glenn Gould's style is certainly not gentle or particularly graceful, that's for sure, but he had precision.

  • @TableLamp1963 Horrible comment.

  • @TableLamp1963 Awful comment.

  • i agree, beside Richter's performance of this prelude and fugue , this is one of the better...

  • Of all the recordings I know of this piece this one is my favourite. I never heard any pianist master the part starting at 4:59 quite like Schiff
