Done this slide twice. First time blinding sun and two fo the four got snow blinded for a couple of days. 2nd time massive blizzard at the top but we had the big green garbage bags under our butt and the slide down was awesome, went from blizzard to decent weather. Fastest way down and what a blast.
@CalgaryAlpineStyle no not quiet, it was above the col in Mount Chester, and it was involuntarily either, i wouldn't call it "self arrest" really. i had my poles really short and when i slipped and started sliding I remembered the movie I watched, turned around, and stuck the poles into the snow with all my strength and kicked with my feet. worked for a bit then i started sliding again, so i made it side ways till i hit the gravel, had to go back up :/.
Yeah, but if the slopes are steep and long, the frozen snow on the surface is a damaging (deadly) combo.
for that you need to self arrest with an ice ax. Even with this one you have to do it properly in order to self-arrest yourself.
I remember once on Mist Mountain in Kananaskis I had to do it myself and it was in August. I didn't have crampons but I had an ice ax on me so I used this self-arrest method once I slipped at one time.
@CalgaryAlpineStyle agree, I didn't think there would be a need for one. my plan was to buy one for this winter season and practice if i can during the winter for next season. that's why av chosen dry mountains so far. I"ll need to be more careful

Having fun yet? So, did you practice self-arrest here?

This season with the large amount of snow pretty much everywhere, an ice ax is in my opinion required
much often than during the previous 2-3 years.
It's a different story.
