Abstinence only keeps you STD free if your spouse was abstinent as well, and with the double standard of the expectation for girls to be "pure virgins" and guys to be "experienced", girls get short-changed on that. Oh yeah, and there's also your spouse cheating on you. Comprehensive sex ed is more realistic and actually delays when teens have sex for the first time and then they will know how to protect themselves.
This is so fucking stupid... I read somewhere that the most religious US states have the highest rate of sexual diseases, as young people there are afraid of buying condoms^^ What are they thinking? That their God gave us this instinct so that we should stay away from it and get depressive?
True; the same states also have higher teen pregnancy rates. (And for SOME stupid reason, this shocks people; of COURSE they're gonna get pregnant if they don't have access to birth control... um, duh?)
Another interesting statistic is that people, girls in particular, in abstinence clubs are far more likely than others to participate in oral or anal sex (unprotected of course)...
