  • "Is history happening all the time?" LOL omg I love when Ali G asks extremely broad/silly questions like that to open his interviews.

  • I wonder what Vidal thought when Ali G came trundling into the room.

  • he never cut any hair but he has smoked some poles

  • is ali g a chav?

  • the funny thing is gore is waay more tolerant of ali g than he is with most news reporters

  • so hard to watch, yet so funny!

  • the constitution has yet to be pregnent. But it sure is fucked.

  • Fucking priceless.

  • National treasure.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha This is the greatest thing I have ever seen.

  • Never let it be said that our beloved genius writer/thinker Gore Vidal takes himself too seriously. Gore's wit is relentless ... to his interviewer (who did a good job by the way) Gore retorts: "I've never cut any hair ... that's Vidal Sassoon." Loved this spoof ... thank you!

  • @TheTonylearner

I saw Vidal on Real Time. I thought he was pathetic. He said nothing that anyone else couldn't have said, he just has an aura about him. He pauses for long periods to garner expectation and he also has a very nice voice.

I'm open to being wrong, though. Could you recommend anything of his that may change my mind?

  • @HoneyIEducatedTheWeb

I'm not sure exactly what sort of thing you're looking for. Vidal has written some good historical novels, especially Julian and Burr. I agree that his mind is not terribly disciplined. He would rather pun and quip than analyze an argument. It's a shame Vidal didn't go to college. But I love him for his courage to say things that others fear to say.

  • @Bolenderable Just out of curiousity, dont you think that Gore Vidal is just as intelligent as most that graduate college? College doesn't make you intelligent persistence and dedication does. I have not went to college -yet. but, just curious because the more I learn, the more I realize just how ignorant I am. What qualifies one to be intellegent ? Sorry if its seems sarcastic thats not my intention. I really hope you can answer.

  • @Lazybate I was only talking about Vidal, not you. Vidal is the sort who could really have benefited from that. I do not mean that every rigorous thinker has been to college. Vidal is a rather loose and unstructured thinker despite his brilliance, that's pretty obvious. I was not saying that you are.

  • @Bolenderable I understand, I didnt think you were talking about me. I guess I could see your point about Gore Vidal, but I have to acknowledge that I have learned things from this man and not to many people can trip him up in a debate. But I was serious when I asked for your opinion on what qualifies someone as intellegent? Can this question really be answered?

  • @Lazybate There are different kinds of intelligence. It's not a single thing, as illustrated by the very familiar stereotype of the technically intelligent person who lacks common sense or social skills etc. As for Vidal, he is extremely intelligent but not very disciplined or rigorous in his thinking. It would have been great if he had taken a logic course or two.

  • @Bolenderable Thanks for taking time to reply.

  • @Lazybate intelligence is native,

    smartness is achieved

    cultural knowledge is achieved

    Gore Vidal is all 3

  • @Lazybate I believe that intelligence is an inherent trait pertaining to the ability of learning, and how fast one can comprehend stimuli and bring things to their logical conclusion. I don't think it can be trained, but rather, aids training and education. I believe there is an important distinction between the two. For example, a chimp may be trained, but not "educated" in the standard sense of the word. They only mimic taught behavior with no conecptual understanding.

  • @fenderkid6 I dont think it's that clear cut at all. Studies suggest that 'nurture' has a greater effect on the number of intelligent people over nature. Of course some people are, it seems, born brilliant...but intellect is like many other biological mechanisms, exercised properly, vast accomplishments can be made in the most unlikely of individuals.

Also, you might want to look further into the latest research in 'animal' intelligence and their ability to conceptualize, you might be surprised

  • People might no notice how much Gore Vidal enjoys things like this.

  • The constitution has not yet been pregnant. ROFLMFAO HAHAHAHA

  • 3:01 - SBC cracks up :D

  • gore vidal was funnier

  • William Buckley must be the windbag, who is the Effeminate homo? Isn't Vidal a homo too? Not that I'm judging.

  • Comment removed

  • good comment... totally awesome vidal.

  • You are confused. Gore Vidal is "the effeminate prevaricating homo AND the pretentious...windbag" (and an insufferable pos.)

  • Vidal 1 Chomsky 0 lol

  • @mgore90 Vidal 1 Baron Cohen 0

  • How was Norman Mailer a Nazi?

  • @loqutor that was william f buckley jr

  • I like how G says @ :44 what WAS the constitution.

  • "So......couldn't it be argued that slavery is a bit racialist?"

  • I love Gore Vidal
