There is COLOR footage of the Statesmen with Cat Freeman and Bervin Kendrick. I will try to get it on here ASAP. It's just a short clip but certainly worth looking at.
This seems like a radio show that got put on film. I say that because it just consists of the performers, with no additional visual stuff to look at. I'm sure this was sort of a transition from radio to early TV.
This was from a "regionally" syndicated program, sponsored in most areas by Nabisco's "Premium Saltines", which meant they also delivered an "integrated commercial" for their sponsor during the program...
From left to right is Denver Crumpler, next to him with NO hair is Jake Hess, next is Doy Ott and Big Chief is on the right. Jake Hess has always worn a wig.
No my dear friend go look at the other tapes with Denver. I am not sure who that is between Jake and doy but Denver no. However I shall go and find out. Blessings
sorry you look at that guy next to Jake and then go to their 1950's TV show ending, may the good lord bless and keep you. Denver was never that bald nor fat in the face. I have not been able to identify him but not Denver. he died in 1957 of diabetic shock.
I can see what you're saying but you can't mistake his voice on the show ending. Still looks like Denver to me. But it matters not. The blessings from the music are :) Can you imagine Christ honoring music advertising something nowadays?
statemenfan is very right the guy on the right is Denver! the guy next to him between Denver and doy is JAKE! I found this out when looking at an imperials video so to everyone i AM SOO SORRY! I was misled by a solo with Jake and Denver! sorry folks!
The year would have to be from '54 to '56. This looks like it's from the 3 video set "What A Happy Time" from Gaither. Where did you see/find the Cat Freeman video? Online? I would love to see that.
I think it's from a Gaither Video also, entitled the History of Southern Gospel Music. They showed an abbreviated version on TV a few years ago and I video taped it. Unfortunately it's only a brief clip of the quartet. The group was Jake, Chief, Cat Freeman and Bervin Kendrick and, of course Hovie.
There is footage of Cat Freeman & in color? I'd be interestd seeing that. Earliest I've ever seen was w/Denver. I'm 37 & I LOVE the statesmen. To me there are better then most today.

This is fabulous footage. What year is this one from? My guess is around 1952 or 53?
There is a "COLOR" film from 1950 of the group that has CAT FREEMAN singing tenor. I've seen a very small bit of it but not the entire piece.
Thanks a million

You would be correct that is the source of this video.

actually, this song wasn't written until 1959 so it would have to be 1959.

Sadly, Denver Crumpler died 21 March 1957. Also, note this is an untoupéed Jake Hess. Date this one 1954!
